"Philadelphia will also send the Nets Nik Stauskas and a second-round pick, sources say."

we're basically giving away a #3 overall pick and a 2nd round pick to flush this turd

never liked dude and thought being a lottery pick was some privilege

Congrats to Jah though

Really, really...REALLY dislike the way his tenure in Philly was handled

wishing him success, sincerely.

Posted by Cold Truth, Fri Dec-08-17 02:00 AM
I am now a nets fan(ish). It would be dope if Nah and DLo wind up having chemistry and develop into something good together.

I can't see any reason to root against a redemption arc here.
2633220, might as well hope trump comes out for the ERA

2633275, Getting stops is integral to NBA whoo-riding
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Dec-08-17 03:49 PM
That’s the question mark with both of them
2633503, You're generous. Is that really a question still?
Posted by Cold Truth, Mon Dec-11-17 09:28 AM
I just want to draw a distinction between what I want to see (whooridin!) and what will likely happen, which is a veritable wet fart. I think the mere possibility of these two finding redemption together is more then enough reason to root for them.
2633443, Whoo-cruising at best
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Dec-10-17 06:22 PM
Two dudes who play no D and inconsistent offense (especially Okafor) on a bad team is not really a whoo-ridin' recipe
2633501, It's not. But I'd love to see that redemption arc.
Posted by Cold Truth, Mon Dec-11-17 09:24 AM
I'm not betting a dollar on it or buying proverbial OKP Stock, but I am rooting to see something click between these two to get out of the league cellar.
2647994, D Lo put up a triple double yday and shows flashes of promise
Posted by guru0509, Sat Mar-24-18 11:27 AM
the knee injury set him back again

no hope for the brontosaurus tho.
2633247, He did 17 and 7 at age 19 in the NBA. I'm confident he can be good.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Dec-08-17 12:14 PM
Things soured quickly in Philly and he wasn't playing well. Advantageous to both parties to end that marriage. Now he's got a new opportunity in a new system to prove himself. I hope he capitalizes.
2633250, The 6ers are higher on Holmes
Posted by bentagain, Fri Dec-08-17 12:26 PM
Feels like that's the company line that's going to get spun out of this

...and it was mentioned during last night's telecast...

I like Holmes, I really do

he's one of those...will do the dirty work players...but

he's not a C

and it boggles my mind, given Embiid's injury history

back 2 back restrictions

etc...

That the FO couldn't see the value in having another legitimate NBA C on the roster

I mean, he's not Nerlens

Jah is a post up, back to the basket wizard on the block

Embiid's getting 30MPG, Jah could have easily gotten 20MPG

and starts when Embiid needs to rest

$.02
2633252, It was too late.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Dec-08-17 12:58 PM
That situation has been toxic for over a year. They weren't going to get value from Jah, and Jah wasn't going to get a fair assessment from the FO or the fanbase. Too much baggage was already on the table. Everyone had mentally moved on.
2633264, How much of this are we attributing to Jah himself?
Posted by bentagain, Fri Dec-08-17 02:45 PM
What exactly was the issue when Embiid came back?

Did they just not get along as team mates? (obviously they wouldn't be on the floor together)

Was he tight about being a backup?

Was he benched because he was a defensive liability and not putting in the work?

etc...

I'm just wondering out loud here, because he's going to a Nets team that is going to lose ALOT of games

full disclosure, I haven't seen them play this year

but just boxscoring it, it doesn't look like they actually give a C run

it looks like the Nets are small balling it

I mean, if he goes to BKN and doesn't get minutes and/or produce to a level that the staff there deems acceptable

compounded by his contract expiring

what then?
2634714, Holmes is a legit bamma and can play alongside Embiid. He plays D, too
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Dec-21-17 10:49 AM
He won't be any huge star, not a high ceiling. Okafor *had* a high ceiling but it's time to readjust expectations. Too many matchup problems for him to be effectively consistently, he has got to be somewhat of a specialist.
2633256, on a 10 win team

2633515, so? y'all was bad.
Posted by Basaglia, Mon Dec-11-17 09:50 AM
2633262, We know he can put up #’s but can he stay on the floor defensively
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Dec-08-17 02:28 PM
That’s the pressing question. As the follower of a team who shifts from one of the worst PnR and in space defenders in the league (BroLo) to, this season, one of the best (Randle)...it’s such a stark differential in terms of defensive outcomes when you have a big who constantly gets exposed in space.
2633279, No questioning that that’s an unresolved issue.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Dec-08-17 04:54 PM
And I’m sure as he continues to try to get into better shape that the issue will linger. Hopefully for his sake it improves.

I’m mostly just blown that so many people of a certain fan base act like the ten-win season was a 19-year-old who did 17 and 7’s fault. Shitty roster? That’s “the process.” Shitty aspects of a young talent’s game? “He sucks.” As if young players don’t need a process of growth too.

to “play themselves into shape” unless you’re Shaq and he’s definitely not that. Wtf was he doing all summer? He could’ve been working out with Tim Grover or somebody. No other player in league is going to use the excuse that the team didn’t allow them to play they’re way into shape. If you’re a pro when you get the opportunity it’s YOUR responsibility to be ready.
2634581, you simply don't know what you're talking about.

Dude got Anthony Bennett written all over him

What's ironic, is the pre-season stories were about him getting a handle on his health, going vegan, etc...

Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Mar-23-18 06:32 PM
Unfortunately, his inability to defend, hit the defensive boards, and adapt to the changing spread-out game has rendered his terrific hands and footwork fairly moot as far as their ability to make him a net positive on the court.

Which is a goddamn shame, as the kid is tremendously talented, and I still hold out hope that he can find a way to adapt and learn some new skills to keep him in the league. I'll basically be holding out until his career is over. He was a great player at Duke, a national champion, and a terrific representative for the university. I really hope he figures it out.

And you can't watch the game tape of him at Duke and pretend that his footwork in the post on offense isn't exceptional. You simply can't do it.

But I get that this is a fun jokey-joke post, so I need to stop clicking it. I like the guy too much and I'm rooting for him too hard to get in my feelings about people razzing him on the Internet for an epically brutal start to a once-immensely-promising pro career. So y'all get your jokes off.
2647952, Fam, I'm a 6ers fan. Why would we want him to fail?
Posted by bentagain, Fri Mar-23-18 06:52 PM
Like I said in previous replies

It boggles my mind that he couldn't get in the rotation ahead of Amir Johnson and Holmes

He was getting DNPs while Embiid was still on minutes and start restrictions

Watching the same thing happen in BK is even more baffling

This wasn't a joke post

He legit got a shot to pad on another tanker

...and is still getting DNPs...

There has to be more to the story IMO
2647984, u know Tim Duncan played in college less than 20 yrs before Jah, right?
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Sat Mar-24-18 02:04 AM
2647998, I said best since Tim Duncan, IIRC.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Mar-24-18 01:18 PM
If I didn’t specifiy eighteen years and instead rounded, then sure, that’s on me— pretty sure I would’ve said “nearly twenty years” but if I got sloppy, so be it. But yes, best footwork/post moves I’d seen in college since Duncan.

EDIT: here’s my exact quote from the Justivity post. “It's not an exaggeration to say his offense was the best I've seen from a freshman traditional big easily since Brand, and maybe since Duncan.”
2648003, ah. well then, sure.

I thought he was a bit slow footed coming out...which was why I was more than ok with us passing on him at #2...

my pointing out the shortcomings of Duke players in the NBA aside....I'm not rooting for the kid to fail at all....

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the reality of drafting 19years hasn't sufficiently adjusted the perception of those young players...nor the upside of drafting them....

what you see with Jah...is one of the risks you take drafting 19 year olds in this era..... there are shortcomings in there games.....there are maturity issues...issues of work ethic..the potential for things to get in their heads(ie. Fultz).... any number of things that can happen to 19year olds you draft... I'm not sure that people are really clear on these things being part of what you're opting into when you draft them....
2648075, His post moves and offensive footwork are great
Posted by LA2Philly, Sun Mar-25-18 05:05 PM
That has nothing to do with why he can't get on the floor - he's far too much of a liability in space and in today's NBA, that's pretty the ultimate negative.

2670164, Kentucky and Duke leading the Charge in NO?
Posted by auragin_boi, Wed Aug-08-18 10:04 AM
Jahlil Okafor has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Pelicans.

Okafor's new contract with New Orleans is reportedly a two-year, partially guaranteed deal, with a team option on Year-2. The former No. 3 overall pick has a ton to prove after not being able to get into the rotation in Brooklyn last season, but with the Pelicans having a need for depth at center and room on the roster, this is a great landing spot for Okafor. We'll be watching how his role develops at camp, but even in an ideal situation, he probably won't be much more than a late-round guy.
2670169, no comment until season starts. learned my lesson with him.

Posted by B.J.S.301, Thu Aug-09-18 05:45 AM
Was he trying to get value for Porzingis?
2670532, Ownership imposition and to be fair Zingis ghosted Philly
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Aug-11-18 07:39 PM
They stood Hinkie up for meetings and workouts. It seemed as though Porzingis didn't want to be part of the process. How much that factored into the ownership's decision remains unclear, they wanted a "blue chip" meaning Russell or Okafor.
2670248, I’ve yet to see evidence of the owners made him pick obe
Posted by bshelly, Thu Aug-09-18 06:15 AM

2670533, Hinkie definitely wanted Zingis, Knicks definitely would have traded up
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Aug-11-18 07:41 PM
Where it went awry, well, you could look at it from two different angles, and in reality they both played a role. Even had they relented and let him take Porzingis, there is no guarantee that would have gone smoothly given his standoffishness pre-draft.

On one hand, he is still not a very good player. On the other, I give him credit for working on his game and physique; I do think he has improved. He is a lot more agile than he used to be, he can do stuff off the bounce and he overall seems more athletic than earlier in his career. He also seems to have added *some* range.

2686183, Yeah, I've been impressed by this.

Their reputation for producing busts won't change because of that. It was a little over-stated since they had the Hills and Brands of the world, but not too much.
