I don't know if I can ride on blind faith, this team is legit worse with bigger names (from the past) than the supposed bag of dildos he dragged to Finals before

no agendas, I don't see how you fix this
2628871, The hawks might not win 15 games
Posted by bshelly, Sun Nov-05-17 05:28 PM
And they're up double digits in the 4th in Cleveland.

This ain't good.
2628872, yea there are real, glaring red flags.
Posted by Vex_id, Sun Nov-05-17 05:34 PM
I still think this team wins the East - but it will be very, very ugly for months. They are a classic example of a team that - on paper - boasts big names - but in actuality - features worn out stars who are too "made" to want to hustle and play D -- they just aren't hungry. The TT injury was the icing on the cake.

I think the ship turns around in December/January with IT's return and a subsequent trade to bring in a competent big - but Cleveland can't continue to dig *this* big of a hole against soft competition.

And a lot of people *still* act like Kyrie is crazy for leaving LeBron and playing on his own team, as if he needs Bron *way* more than vice versa.
2628896, Can we wait until IT plays though?

He’s the biggest piece of the trade for Cleveland in the short term and the Kyrie replacement.
2628899, IT? Niggas was cysing Jae Crower and a pick that's gon be sorry.

2628904, Crowder has always been a role player
Posted by DJR, Sun Nov-05-17 06:40 PM
The pick is for after Lebron leaves. Thomas is the all star replacing an all star for what they hope is one last run.

If IT balls and they get to the finals, then they did ok in the trade short term. We’ll see.
2628900, The problem for the Cavs with waiting...
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Nov-05-17 06:35 PM
... is they have two months minimum before he's back. That's a *lot* of games/potential losses. And that assumes he comes back truly healthy. It assumes a lot of things.

Frankly, we won't know what the Cavs can do during the regular season at all, imo. However, because this is a different team-- and East-- than years past, they can't just coast to a Top 2 seed. And their path will be much, much more difficult the lower that seed goes. And their odds of winning it all will drop the lower down that seed line they go.

And ultimately, the Cavs didn't need to be in this predicament. They undervalued Kyrie and he found out. They could've been playing with him on the court right now.

Instead, they're praying IT from last season-- his best efficiency season by a mile-- arrives and saves the day. Because if he doesn't and they bomb out early, bye bye Bron.
2628909, I think this happens even w/o the bomb
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Nov-05-17 07:08 PM
>Because if he doesn't and they bomb out early, bye bye Bron.

I have a hard time believing Ky ain't kayfabing it. that team is gonna be worse than that 19-63 squad when LeBron leaves
2629098, RE: Can we wait until IT plays though?
Posted by murph71, Mon Nov-06-17 01:23 PM
I mean....this whole situation is catnip for the Agenda fiends....lol

It's gotten so silly around here that the bare facts don't even matter....

The Cavs r a mess (which I'm not too broken up about given how Bron and them tortured my Bulls...). But the team they have on the floor now is not the team they envisioned. James and them thought they could still win some games in the weak ass East with IT being on the bench and (now) with TT in street clothes....They were so wrong. The Cavs had no idea that those other teams in the East (like Orlando and Detroit) would be vastly improved...

Bottom line: The Cavs made a trade that they really didn't have to make. The BALLS and guile it took for them to think they could get away with trading Kyrie to Boston (in the East!!!!) is pretty laughable. No one put a gun to the Cavs' front office and Bron to trade dude to a really solid franchise like the Celtics. They knew IT was already coming off an injury and yet the Cavs still made that move. Phoenix was ready to deal....Ky could have been in Arizona...But again, the Cavs wanted to prove they were the smartest franchise in the room....SMH....

The one thing that's clear though? Love is not a franchise player....That can no longer be debated....
2628897, you right....
Posted by Dstl1, Sun Nov-05-17 06:33 PM
agenda shit is at a fever pitch, now, it feels like. Every reply is dripping with cynicism. Every response is a "ha, ha...gotcha", post uppage, throw it back in your face, remember you said my guy wasn't shit?!??!?! Fuck. For the record, I do think they are a lock for the Finals. That's not a knock on Kyrie. I just think at full-strength, they're still the best team in the East. Feels like the "oh, shit Cavs are in trouble" thing happens once per season. This year it started before fucking Halloween, lol.
2628903, This assumes "full strength Cavs" is achievable.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Nov-05-17 06:39 PM
>I just think at full-strength, they're

I think it's important to consider that it may not be.

>Feels like the "oh, shit
>Cavs are in trouble" thing happens once per season. This year
>it started before fucking Halloween, lol.

As I detailed elsewhere, the Cleveland defense is the worst it's ever been since Bron arrived in the NBA. By a sizable amount. And that *includes the seasons when Bron went to Miami,* lol. So while normally I agree, and they could still turn things around obviously, they have a lot of concerns. And health (and definitely IT) won't fix those defensive woes.
2628898, damn...I typed that up based on your pre-edit

2628902, lol, I trimmed the fat, but I think people will still get it.

2628914, a *lot* of people said Boston won the trade, too
Posted by Vex_id, Sun Nov-05-17 07:35 PM
And even more thought both teams fared well in the exchange.

I get that it's exciting for Boston to have the best record in the league after 10 games - but you really need to assess a fuller body of work before you declare a "W" in early November.

But yea - you'd rather be Boston than Cleveland after the first few weeks of the season. Will that be the case in April?

-->
2628915, To be clear, I'm not declaring a W or an L either way.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Nov-05-17 07:39 PM
I'm celebrating that the guy I root for succeeding in Boston, and I'm taking a bit of schadenfreude in seeing that the franchise who took him for granted is really needing him right now.

If Bron stays and they somehow flip that pick into Bagley or Porter, then obviously that changes the dynamic of everything. So much of the ultimate "W or L" depends on how the picks shake out and if the talent convinces Bron to stay in Cleveland.
2628918, Wait - how did Cleveland take Kyrie for granted?
Posted by Vex_id, Sun Nov-05-17 07:50 PM

>and I'm taking a bit of schadenfreude in seeing that the
>franchise who took him for granted is really needing him right
>now.

Seems like Cleveland has always been high on Kyrie - acknowledging his greatness and the integral role he played in winning the 'chip. Kyrie is actually the one throwing darts at Cleveland - not vice versa - by calling Boston a "real sports town" (implying Cleveland isn't) and saying he loves playing for "an intellectual" (in Stevens, implying Lue does not possess requisite intellect). if anyone is taking the other for granted - it's Kyrie who jettison'd a ship that had just sailed to the Finals 3 years in a row like it was nothing.

>If Bron stays and they somehow flip that pick into Bagley or
>Porter, then obviously that changes the dynamic of everything.
>So much of the ultimate "W or L" depends on how the picks
>shake out and if the talent convinces Bron to stay in
>Cleveland.

I don't think that pick will factor much into the equation - Cleveland is wholly focused on winning right now with Bron. If he leaves this entire roster implodes and they start from scratch. The "winner" of the trade will be determined by a.) how deep Boston's playoff run is (remember - IT led them to the ECF) and what their ceiling is in the long-term with this new unit (right now seems promising); and b.) Does Cleveland fare better against GS (or whoever comes out the West) in the Finals with this roster? If they don't even make the Finals - then clearly they lost the trade.

2628919, they put him on the market, dogg. griffin snitched. that's why i'm cookin
Posted by Basaglia, Sun Nov-05-17 07:52 PM

2628923, ^^^ yep. Got greedy, flew too close to the Suns, and paid the price.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Nov-05-17 07:56 PM
All they had to do was be happy with the future Hall of Famer in hand instead of reaching for the two in the bush.
2628930, how many times are players explored on the trading block tho?
Posted by Vex_id, Sun Nov-05-17 08:14 PM
Love was on the market every other week last year. I don't think Kyrie should've been on the market at all personally - but it is a part of a GM's due diligence to explore what kind of value they can get for talent, no?

Now - if it's true that Bron was pushing for a Kyrie trade (which I still haven't seen evidence of) - then I get why Kyrie wanted out - especially knowing that Bron's loyalty was unclear as to whether he would stay (probably is out after this season). I'm not mad at all at what Kyrie did - i like the move for him in the long-term (and looks good even in the short-term right now) - but you have to keep in mind that the only reason he's in Boston is because Cleveland traded him there. They actually put him in a great situation and complied w/ his request to be traded -- but didn't just trade him anywhere - put him in a good situation - so to me I would think he would have a bit more regard for his time spent there - especially during the last 3 years because as I've maintained - he and Bron will both *never* be a part of a team/title as special as their '16 run. That was the most historic title in League History, period.

-->
2628938, wait wait wait? you tryna JUSTIFY that shit? you've gon crazy now
Posted by Basaglia, Sun Nov-05-17 08:31 PM
i know you love bron, but you need some perspective real bad.

think of what he meant to that team. how many times they put the ball in his hands and told him bring it home? they put him on the fucking market, dogg, because bron was THAT SCARED of golden state. he think he needs the fucking avengers to defeat them and the ONLY piece that came close to gettin him that was kyrie and he sat there and let gilbert shop him and pulled his hands back like he wasn't involved.

what he NEEDED to do what realize that kyrie is 25 and was just going to get BETTER and trading love for some fuckin DEFENDERS was the move.

oh well.
2629186, Look: I'm a Kyrie fan.
Posted by Vex_id, Mon Nov-06-17 09:21 PM
I hate that Kyrie - and as you know - I still maintain that kyrie is the greatest teammate Bron ever had (and likely will ever have) in terms of how he complemented Bron. Having said all that - Kyrie didn't have a great Finals overall and Bron was frustrated after he performed in historic fashion but Love was trash and Kyrie was good (but not great) - and he had to be great in order for CLE to have a chance against GS.

Now, I do think Bron deserves some blame because his body language was just BIG MAD at a lot of times last year and it wasn't ideal for team cohesion. Ultimately I think a mistake was made in undervaluing Kyrie - so i agree with that. But let's also be very clear: Kyrie will never play with a guy of Bron's caliber ever again - and he also needed to appreciate that and I think he ultimately undervalued playing w/ Bron. He should've played one more year and then bounced - but clearly he was in the Feels after hearing he was being marketed - and I get that.

I'm just mad they didn't have more go-round at it together. They were a beautiful tandem to watch.

2629174, Disagree. Our offense was fine until the final 8 minutes

The team was lit in the 3rd because the ball wasn't sticking which got us open perimeter looks or open driving lanes bc Memphis had to close out hard. In that final span of the 4th, we stopped executing motion and the offense devolved into predictable PnR resets which = tough shots vs a good defense.
2629191, I hear you, I definitely agree with you.

I was referring more to Memphis' halftime adjustments on BI that led to some stalled possessions in the second half.

He got the same DHO's as he did in the first half, worked PnR, and numerous late clock touches...he was more passive going to the paint but it likely was a manifestation of Memphis deciding to focus Gasol in the paint & tilting their weak-side rotation (which ultimately helped the looks we got).
2629145, Lulz, it's clear the only metric you look at is scoring

Over a 3/1 assist:turnover ratio (9 total assists to boot), above average rebounding rate, and a + defensive rating. Stop embarrassing yourself
2629185, they're mad 'cause Zo's charging fees.
