2622764, Luka Doncic better be the #1 pick next year
Posted by okayplayery, Fri Sep-15-17 05:44 AM
He just gave the business to Gasol brothers and Rubio and before that to Porzingis. He's the most fundamentally sound 18-year old the Europe has ever seen. Better than Petrovic, Nowitzki, Oscar, etc.
2622770, Zingis did drop 34 but dude did get the win and some late buckets
Posted by Cenario, Fri Sep-15-17 09:10 AM
he looks good.
2622775, theres some real talent at the top of this draft
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Fri Sep-15-17 09:56 AM
he'll have his haters, but at least he's shown and proven vs NBA guys (albeit in international format).

Better when these guys get drafted off potential averaging 2.1 pts ppg and 1.5 rebs for FC barcelona and were told its because of how the minutes system is in Europe
2622803, unless you've got a bucket deficit and you go porter
Posted by themaddfapper, Fri Sep-15-17 12:23 PM
the buckets doncic will create himself, and via hockey assists will make up for it even if he's not a 25ppg scorer.

special skillset.
2622806, *slides Bagley into the post*
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Sep-15-17 12:40 PM
2622813, I get why. I sincerely do.
Posted by themaddfapper, Fri Sep-15-17 01:31 PM
these are, well, children, really. So we don't know who they'll be in 6 yrs.

just on what I've seen, unless something changes...

ionno if he's a cornerstone.

a lethal #2 next to a star, yep. My guy? Building block? mmmm..no.

and I say this as someone whose day in day out job for, basically the last 2 yrs is basically this.

I do my best to keep my takes as frozen and measured as I can.
2622826, Out of curiosity, who are your top 10 in next year's draft?
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Sep-15-17 04:28 PM
I honestly haven't seen enough of HS kids to say more beyond the simple "I like them" or "I'm not sure I see it next level," so I'm curious to hear expanded thoughts.
2622840, i'll give it a shot
Posted by themaddfapper, Sat Sep-16-17 08:45 AM
caveat of "draft prognostication not really my thing" for when all this is dead ass wrong, lol.
no order off top
porter
doncic
bamba
ayton
bagley
jaren jackson jr (could be myles turner type. 17 (maybe just turned 18) legit stretch 5 type.
bridges
robert williams (havent watched him in college at all. in hs just on body and hang time he legit made me go "who is that?" even though he had almost no skill. his ascent has been cool to follow
c. sexton semi-personal bias. was put on to him way before he became a thing. i almost cant bet against him if that makes sense. 6'1" and high jumps 6'8" and seemingly better all the time. if "wanting it" was a skill he might go 1.
thats 9. you know who could be 10 for me for shits and giggles. bruce brown. miami. might be 1a in terms of wanting it. fucking DAWG. has willed himself into a guy who may play pg in the league. marcus smart-ish with the intangibles but hecoming a guy who can shoot it.

2622856, Sexton is a nut lmao. I like that kid.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sat Sep-16-17 01:41 PM
I'd punch him in the face if I had to play him though
2622878, off court quiet as a churchmouse good ass kid
Posted by themaddfapper, Sat Sep-16-17 04:53 PM
its..bizarre.
but it works.
2622953, Sounds about right. Kevin and/or Hami gonna slide in there somewhere though
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Sun Sep-17-17 09:45 AM
2622973, exponential growth would have to happen
Posted by themaddfapper, Sun Sep-17-17 02:42 PM
hami had the 40/18/64 slash @ WC.
KK ball skills seem to have plateau'd
but now they're in the big time and we'll see what competition does to em.
2623186, For sure.Cal can get them there.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Tue Sep-19-17 06:55 PM
2622952, hope OE gets in on this
Posted by bshelly, Sun Sep-17-17 08:50 AM
Donkic seems like the perfect players for another Christian McCaffery MEMS agenda.
2623119, Wherever he's taken, he better be really good
Posted by Basaglia, Mon Sep-18-17 09:08 PM

i feel like super-hyped Euro prospects since Darko have pretty much lived up to their draft position. Gallinari, Rubio, Bargnani (no he was not a bust), Kanter have all been serviceable players. And the latest Euros are even better. Jokic, Giannis, Zingis....all gonna be perennial all-stars.

But, the way they cysing this kid right now, just giving him the #1 spot...he bet not be sorry
2623176, Question about Doncic's speed/athleticism:
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Sep-19-17 05:27 PM
I've seen multiple scouting sites say they have questions or concerns about how his speed/athleticism would impact his ceiling in the NBA. When was the last time a wing player with these concerns was considered for the #1 pick? Outside of James Harden, has there been a wing player picked Top 5 with these concerns who made multiple All-Star games the last, say, 15-20 years?

I'm not saying dude can't beast, and dude's IQ is clearly bonkers... I'm just pretty amazed that we're looking at multiple scouts cysing a wing prospect as the #1 overall while simultaneously wondering about his speed and athleticism at the NBA level.

(This question may be primarily for themaddfapper, lol.)
2623177, Kyrie
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Tue Sep-19-17 05:36 PM
2623178, Kyrie was scouted as having average speed?
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Sep-19-17 05:39 PM
By which scouts? And why do those scouts have jobs?
2623185, I remember average athleticism...
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Tue Sep-19-17 06:54 PM
and speed when compared to guys like Rose, Russ, and Wall.
2623193, Find me a scouting report that says "average NBA speed."
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Sep-19-17 07:34 PM
You don't count. lol.
2681035, Kyrie is definitely not as bouncy and twitchy as other guys.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Wed Dec-05-18 03:50 PM
>You don't count. lol.

Like RBO said: Rose, Westbrook, etc.

2681056, Those are two separate things.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Dec-05-18 06:02 PM
I never argued he was as fast as Rose or Westbrook or Wall. But he's pretty clearly above-average fast for the NBA. Which goes back to the point I made in the first place.
2681024, And now Kings are mad at Joerger lol
Posted by okayplayery, Wed Dec-05-18 02:55 PM
They should be mad at Bagley for being sorry
2681026, The Suns should be even more mad
Posted by Dr Claw, Wed Dec-05-18 02:57 PM
2681027, sir we are mad about everything from the top to the bottom
Posted by HecticHavoc, Wed Dec-05-18 03:03 PM
of this franchse.

but it all starts with Evil Death Lord Robert Sarver, the Sith of NBA Franchises.
2681040, I still contend the Kings & Suns made the right picks.

.
2718567, LOL
Posted by okayplayery, Tue Aug-25-20 01:47 PM
CONTEND DEEZ NUTZ!
2681055, He's 19 years old, averaging 13, 7, and over a block in 24 MPG.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Dec-05-18 06:00 PM
In what world is that sorry?

Doncic having a tremendous rookie season doesn't diminish the fact that Bagley has a great chance at being a First-Team All-Rookie this season too.
2681284, Okafor-esque numbers
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Dec-08-18 10:34 PM
nah, he aight tho
2681074, before the season i was like if the mavs lose 50 its still gonna be
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Thu Dec-06-18 12:31 AM
more exciting to watch than anything theyve done the past 10 years

i cant believe what they are doing out there after a bit of a shakey start

even the shitty loss tonight not withstanding

im enjoying every game
2681276, good gravy
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Sat Dec-08-18 09:17 PM
this guy is something
2681277, yeah, that 11-0 run he put on Houston was impressive, no doubt
Posted by dillinjah, Sat Dec-08-18 09:58 PM
2682238, Joerger: "Congrats Vlade, you played yourself"

2682266, IMO he meant "us" as in "the rest of the league"
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Dec-19-18 04:25 PM
if vlade or williams or vivek or whatever incompetent boob is mad about this, that's just a reflection of their own insecurity. i know williams and joerger have had funk but i highly doubt he was airing it out now at that moment.

the kings are fucking trash though and hell yeah doncic should have gone no lower than 2 overall.
2682538, this guy...

Don’t act friendly now
2718568, lmao, see, this is why I don't comment on overseas dudes.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Aug-25-20 02:48 PM
I genuinely *never* know if a Euro guy is a Doncic or a Vesely or a Bender. No clue.
2718571, reply #4
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Aug-25-20 03:29 PM
2718574, Notice I didn't actually comment on Doncic.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Aug-25-20 04:18 PM
Strange how that's exactly what I just said. I just noted that I think Bagley had #1 overall talent.

I asked a question about Luka's speed/athleticism, because I was genuinely curious-- note that, again, I said absolutely nothing there claiming to know anything. Because I didn't.

The last Euro I actually claimed anything about at all was Nurkic, just because he was big as shit and I heard he wasn't afraid of physical play-- that's always a good scouting report to hear about Euro bigs.

That said, again, don't ever feel nearly as comfortable about those guys as guys I've actually watched countless games for.

The two hardest guys to predict for me: Euro guys and undersized point guards. So difficult to project.
