Bills' LeSean McCoy says Colin Kaepernick's play not worth 'distraction' he comes with

Mike Rodak
ESPN Staff Writer

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy believes free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick is not a good enough player to be worth the "distraction" of a team signing him to play.

"It's a lot more than just he's not on the team because he doesn't want to stand for the national anthem," McCoy said Thursday. "That may have something to do with it, but I think also it has a lot to do with his play. I'm sure a lot of teams wouldn't want him as their starting quarterback. That chaos that comes along with it, it's a lot.

"As a team, trying to win and not have a distraction on the team, I just take that as a player -- there's certain players that could be on the team with big distractions, and there's other players that it's not good enough or not worth it. I think his situation is not good enough to have him on the team with all the attention that comes along with it. I'm sure if a guy like Brady or a guy like whoever is your favorite player - Odell Beckham or a guy like that - you'll deal with that attention and play him."

McCoy was asked how Kaepernick's situation compares to that of former NFL quarterback Michael Vick, who became a Philadelphia Eagles teammate of McCoy in 2009 after spending time in prison on federal dogfighting charges.

"He's 10 times better than Kaepernick," McCoy said of Vick. "You'll deal with that situation, that attention, that media aspect of it. The good, the bad attention you'll get. Compared to Kaepernick, it's like, he's not really that good of a player to deal with.

"So people outside of sports don't really know that. They see only one side of black guy standing up for a good reason the NFL is against him, but I think it's more than that. I think it has to do with some of that. But also, dealing with him with him on the team you're trying to build together. There's so many outsiders can mess up a team. I can see both sides, I really can."

McCoy opined Thursday that Kaepernick, who remains unsigned as the start of the regular season approaches Sept. 7, would not make the roster of "certain teams" in the NFL.

You just got to look at all sides," McCoy said. "Like, if I'm an owner or the GM of a team, do I want to put him on my team? Is he good enough to be on the squad, to even deal with everything that's going on? That's something that I don't really partake in."

hustle.

We all know Kaep ain't the best QB around and that it may be different if Brady or Cam were in Kaep's shoes We all know that. However, I and many others firmly believe this dude should have a gig in the league considering the other numbskulls that have been signed this offseason.

Aside from that and at this stage, it should be evident to e'rybody why Kaep don't have a job in the NFL.

Shady just needs to stick to what he does best.

Every aspect of NFL players lives are dissected and discussed ad nauseam. You have to be pretty stupid to think that this is some huge extra burden that a team would have to take on.

the situation with Kap is honestly one of the most misapplied "social causes" I have seen in my lifetime.... I'm honestly embarrassed for people who claim to be football fans pretending like the ONLY reason Kap isn't on a roster currently is because he protested the during the National Anthem last year. For someone who doesn't actually follow football to think that...I could understand...but for people who claim to follow the game to believe that, is just ridiculous.

Shady is simply saying what a lot of people already know...

Kap isn't that good a QB anymore.... He wasn't liked in the locker room prior to the protest.... and there is another big issue at play that nobody is talking about..

Does Kap even want to play anymore?

Can someone show me something Kap has done since the end of last season to right today that demonstrates he actually wants to play in the NFL?

A workout for scouts...... An interview where he says he wants to play..... Anything.....

he opted out of his contract remember..... now it seems like he's sitting back waiting for a call instead of going out and showing people that he wants to play like QBs like Vince Young did and continued to get signed by teams.

folks are protesting for a dude that likely doesn't even want to play in the NFL anymore unless somebody comes to him as opposed to going out and making it happen...

2621113, RE: He's 100% on point....
Posted by COOLEHMAGAZINE, Fri Aug-25-17 10:33 AM
You are overdoing it man. He has been in camps, Seattle's for example. There is NO reason to think that he doesn't want to play. Unless YOU have evidence that he doesn't want to play, we can all assume he wants to play.

Ho much he wants to get paid, and where he wants to play is debatable but again, we have no evidence that his demands are outlandish, so no reason to assume that they are.

What Shady is saying is essentially true but you are doing too much here.
2621176, in what way?
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Fri Aug-25-17 03:33 PM
not sure what you mean by overdoing it....

>You are overdoing it man. He has been in camps, Seattle's for
>example. There is NO reason to think that he doesn't want to
>play. Unless YOU have evidence that he doesn't want to play,
>we can all assume he wants to play.

again...Why should we assume that he wants to play... he had a contract for this season..he opted out. I've seen no press conferences..no interviews.... I've seen him in 1 camp, the Seahawks...

I've seen other QBs looking for jobs that did the things I mentioned..had workouts for multiple teams..and made it clear that they not only wanted to play..but were willing to work hard.

If I see these things from Kap...I will adjust what I'm saying... I haven't seen them in him.

>How much he wants to get paid, and where he wants to play is
>debatable but again, we have no evidence that his demands are
>outlandish, so no reason to assume that they are.

What are his demands? What is his willingness to be a back up on another team? If he's made the public aware of any of this, I honestly haven't heard it and I'm more than willing to adjust my stance if I missed it.

>
>What Shady is saying is essentially true but you are doing too
>much here.

define too much..

from my perspective I see people purposely ignoring legit factors involved in this ...and I'm not going to ignore them.

He played on one of the 3 worst teams in the NFL last year, behind a shit line with his best received being named Vance Mcdonald. No one knows what he has said in meeting or demands he has made for pay.
2621118, you are 100% wrong
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Aug-25-17 10:49 AM
plenty of football players aren't liked in the locker room.

Do you really think Kaep is refusing to work out for teams? We are at a point where teams want know part of him for obvious reasons.

Folks act like Kaep killed some dogs or murdered someone.

Dude took a freaking knee during the anthem and wore some tshirts.

...and there are QB's who been sitting at home CHILLIN' who got calls before Kaep.

The real problem is folks are putting all their political hate on Kaep cause Fox News and them made it sound like it was treason. I also blame ESPN and them for showing every national anthem every week like it was a big deal. They rarely showed it unless it was the SB but after Kaep they were breaking into games just to show him on one knee.

I'm in Charlotte and Derek Anderson looked like pure trash this preseason. As soon as the host of a radio said Kaep needs a shot the phones lit up. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

but look around the league, dudes are kneeling, white dudes are getting in on it and it's not going to be that big of a deal this year. Kaep taking all the heat tho.

>plenty of football players aren't liked in the locker room.

Quarterbacks???

Which ones?

How many QBs took their teammates girls, causing a conflict that put their teammate in more legal peril than they already were?

please provide me with other examples of this...

I'll give you a close example..

Cade McNown...... He and Tim Couch weren't teammates ..but they were friends, and Cade ended up taking Couch's playmate of the year girlfriend from his friend...

it tainted other players perception of McNown for the rest of his brief career...

>
>Do you really think Kaep is refusing to work out for teams? We

other players protested....other players are protesting now.... How many of them are getting cut, or having ANY consequences from their teams

>
>Dude took a freaking knee during the anthem and wore some
>tshirts.
>
>...and there are QB's who been sitting at home CHILLIN' who

and assuming it's ONLY because of the protest while ignoring all the other factors that had Kap being looked at sideways BEFORE the protest is just missing the point

>
>The real problem is folks are putting all their political hate

but see here is the problem with that narrative.... I admired Kap for the protest...he made a statement knowing there would be consequences and he did it anyway...I'll ways respect that.. I wouldn't in any way be considered even slightly leaning to the right.... I've seen racism up close my entire life...my father's real estate business was fire bombed 3 different times in the early 70's in Long Beach California.... my opinion on Kap isn't rooted in anything you just mentioned..

dude's ability as a QB was questioned BEFORE the protest..
his issues with Aldon Smith happened BEFORE the protest...
his work ethic and selfishness was questioned BEFORE the protest....

people are ignoring all of that and hanging it all on the protest even though HE opted out of a contract for this season.

>
>I'm in Charlotte and Derek Anderson looked like pure trash
>this preseason. As soon as the host of a radio said Kaep needs
>a shot the phones lit up. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm sure there are places where it wouldn't be a good fit..I mean...there were protests in Philly and Pittsburgh over signing Vick...but the teams felt it was worth the risk..

again with the Panthers.... my impression is that since Kap opted out of his deal he's looking to get paid and go somewhere with a chance to start....Carolina isn't that place..

being a back up QB for a team with an already established QB isn't about just being a good QB...there is a support role that a back up in that situation must play..and a guy like Kap would need to prove he is willing to do that...and I'm not sure he has..

honestly the best fit was Baltimore...or now maybe Jacksoville....

>but look around the league, dudes are kneeling, white dudes
>are getting in on it and it's not going to be that big of a
>deal this year. Kaep taking all the heat tho.
>

as long as you keep ignore the other issues with Kap outside of the protest, to me it's giving a false impression..and the fact that these other guys protesting aren't suffering any consequence actually proves that.
2621357, Kaep is the face of the movement
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Aug-28-17 09:05 AM

no one else is going to get that heat because everyone is out of gas from flaming dude last year.

and now that white dudes are getting in on it you will definitely see it turn into a OMG, THIS IS FREEDOM OF SPEECH, THEY ARE SOOOO COURAGEOUS.

It's like Ali back in the day. They hated dude but years from now people will respect him for his stance.

Yes, what he is saying is what is happening but is it right? No. Yes, he is basically a middling QB (fringe starter/solid backup) and yes what happened last year is keeping him out of the league. No, the distraction is not "a lot," no, Vick was not "10 times the player," and no, the fact that he knelt for 30 seconds every Sunday does not change the fact that there are absolutely not 64 better QBs in the NFL than this guy.

The Foster case is that the woman got her ass beat by another chick, posted her black eyes and said Foster did it.

I'm NOT saying that this woman is faking anything. You're right, she got brutally assaulted. I'm just saying I'm not ready to condemn anyone until the facts come out. And if it's true that McCoy did that to her, he deserves multiple run-ins with Fleece Johnson

https://deadspin.com/police-lesean-mccoys-ex-girlfriend-was-the-victim-of-a-1827490589

Earlier today Bills running back LeSean McCoy was accused of beating his ex-girlfriend, Delicia Cordon. The accusation was made by a friend of Cordon’s in a since-deleted Instagram post that included a picture of Cordon’s battered face. Now, police in Georgia are saying Cordon was the victim of a targeted home invasion.

Public records show that Cordon and McCoy at one point shared an address in Alpharetta, Ga. We reached out to local police departments in the area seeking any information related to any incidents involving McCoy or Cordon, and received this statement from the Milton County police department:

On July 10, 2018 at approximately 3:18 A.M., Milton Police responded to a home invasion at a residence on Hickory Pass near the Cherokee County line. The preliminary investigation indicates that this residence was specifically targeted by the suspect or suspects, and not a random incident.

When officers arrived they found one victim who had been physically assaulted by a lone intruder. During the altercation, the suspect demanded specific items from the victim. An adult female victim was treated and released at North Fulton Regional Hospital. A second adult female victim also sustained a minor injury during the incident.

We’ll update as more information becomes available.

Update (4:47 p.m. ET): TMZ reports that in June, McCoy attempted to have Cordon removed from the home in Alpharetta by court order. According to the court documents cited by TMZ, McCoy asked the judge to order Cordon to leave the house and return to him various items that were in her possession.

https://deadspin.com/attorney-man-who-attacked-delicia-cordon-demanded-jewe-1827507261

relevant stuff here:

From the attorney’s statement:

Cordon returned from a trip to London on July 9, 2018. At approximately 3:00 a.m. on this morning, while she was sleeping in the residence that she shares with Mr. McCoy, Ms. Cordon was physically assaulted in the home by a male assailant who entered the home with no signs of forced entry. The assailant demanded specific items of jewelry that had been previously gifted to Ms. Cordon by Mr. McCoy, which Mr. McCoy had requested back on many occasions. In fact, after Ms. Cordon refused to return her jewelry gifts to Mr. McCoy, he would often suggest to Ms. Cordon that she could be robbed because the jewelry was expensive.

In the attack this morning, Ms. Cordon’s wrist was bruised when the assailant could not get the bracelets off her wrist, and he hit Ms. Cordon in the face with a firearm multiple times while demanding specific items of jewelry and cash from her. Ms. Cordon sustained multiple injuries to her head, face and arms during this horrendous attack. Additionally, Ms. Cordon’s female cousin was at the residence, and she too was hit in the back of her head by the assailant with the firearm. Due to an ongoing criminal investigation into this incident, Ms. Cordon will have no further comment at this time.

The mother of LeSean McCoy's six-year-old son has filed an affidavit in the lawsuit brought against McCoy by his ex-girlfriend Delicia Cordon claiming the Bills running back has abused the child, according to Rob Tornoe of philly.com.

On Tuesday, Stephanie Maisonet filed an affidavit that says she previously made a report to child services concerning McCoy abusing their son. Maisonet says, "Our son would often come home with bruises in which I would consistently receive outlandish excuses as to where the bruises would come from," and LeSean McCoy Jr. would "cry hysterically whenever he had to spend time with" his father.

The affidavit also details how after Cordon was the victim of a home invasion at a house McCoy owns in Georgia and accused McCoy of being behind the burglary and assault, McCoy reached out to Maisonet "directly for the first time in years" and asked for help with the situation. In exchange for help, he offered to allow their son to enroll in school in Miami, which McCoy had been fighting against in their custody battle. The affidavit also claims McCoy's mother reached out to Maisonet and asked she serve as a character witness for McCoy.

"Reluctantly, I agreed to help him because I believed I was acting in the best interest of our son," the affidavit reads.

Additionally, Maisonet says in the affidavit that she gave her Instagram password to McCoy's friend Tamarcus Porter and he wrote a comment pretending to be Maisonet that denied the child abuse allegation Cordon's friend initially made in a since-deleted Instagram post.
