His body couldn't withstand that much running.

Pro-style was his only chance at longevity in the league but he still got hurt.

I think the Shanahans planned on making a gradual transition, but again, that was predicated on him being durable enough to play for a long time.

Either way, he doesn't make that stand without the owner's blessing. It was just a horrible set of relationships all around the team at that point.
