2618520, The Dodgers....
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Tue Jul-25-17 12:01 AM
even with Kersh down for a minute...this team is the real deal..

Cody Bellinger just hit his 28th Hr in the 8th to give us the lead... other runs came on back to back HRs earlier by Grandal and Joc...

We're pounding teams with HRs..

Bellinger is the Rookie of the year...and the league MVP...

Dave Roberts will be Manager of the Year his first 2 seasons as a manager...

Kenley Jansen should be a top CY Young candidate with 25 saves....62Ks and 2 walks in 42 innings...

LA on fire right now while y'all sleepin...

I love it.

But can they do this in playoffs?
2618567, I think so
Posted by Wonderl33t, Tue Jul-25-17 01:53 PM
I'm not calling a WS win, but I feel like the confidence is higher than years past. And the whole lineup can swing the bat. Consistently good at bats. Rarely a free out, even from the pitcher's spot. And the pitching overall is better than years past, as well.

2618621, I don't see why not, this is the best team they've had
Posted by DJR, Wed Jul-26-17 10:21 AM
That whole lineup hits. I can't believe how good Chris Taylor has been. Kershaw is the best pitcher and Jansen is the best closer. Rich Hill being healthy and locked in come playoff time will be a key.
2618659, esp if they get one more quality starter and a set up man
Posted by justin_scott, Wed Jul-26-17 05:08 PM
that's really the two major weaknesses i see.
2618526, Bellinger will win ROY, but he's not even top 5 MVP (yet)
Posted by justin_scott, Tue Jul-25-17 03:08 AM
heck, two guys on his own team (Turner and Seager) are ahead of him for that award, as well as 2-3 other players on other teams.
2618609, Verlander should help in the playoffs
Posted by Ceej, Wed Jul-26-17 07:55 AM
2618613, Is he available for a bag of erotic goods?
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Jul-26-17 08:12 AM
Regardless of CK going on the DL, our 4th starter has been in flux all season so I'm hoping we can find a reasonable price for either Darvish or Verlander
2618614, Probably. We pretty much gave away JD
Posted by Ceej, Wed Jul-26-17 08:14 AM
and the billionaire family wants to cut payroll. Cuz funding stadiums via tax payer money is really hurting their bottom line apparently.
2618616, it's interesting that the really good teams
Posted by rob, Wed Jul-26-17 09:12 AM
are good enough and have enough depth/prospects that there are legitimate questions about whether someone like j.d. martinez or some of the available starting pitchers would actually be improvements.

2618619, Taking on big money could cripple these teams
Posted by Ceej, Wed Jul-26-17 09:28 AM
It really doesnt make sense for a well built team with a bright future to take on JVs money. BUt a team willing to WIN NOW and possibly suck next year has a tough choice to make.
2618620, lmao@"bag of erotic goods"

2618623, Like, while we're literally sleeping?
Posted by Walleye, Wed Jul-26-17 11:00 AM
I've had a hard time staying awake for west coast games and the Twins are actually in Los Angeles right now.

But if you're speaking figuratively, I'm pretty sure everybody knows the Dodgers are good. It's a pretty sizable media market. Word leaks out.
2618633, RE: Like, while we're literally sleeping?
Posted by Wonderl33t, Wed Jul-26-17 02:13 PM
I think the "sleep" is more of an "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude, which is 100% warranted due to the lack of playoff success of the past several years. Even I can't shake that attitude as an LA fan.

2618660, Dodgers and Astros are both incredible this year
Posted by Nodima, Wed Jul-26-17 05:12 PM
on the recent Ringer MLB Show podcast they were saying that these two teams aren't just great for 2017 but historically great period, on pace to be two of the best teams of all-time (and that the next four teams behind them aren't really that far off pace either).

Playoffs are gonna be a lot of fun.

regardless of how good the pitchers we're facing..

we've won 36 of our last 42...
2618916, They look great now, let's see the last 20-25 games
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Jul-29-17 04:58 PM
It's funny around the all-star break there seemed to be a lot of nervousness but they have played really well of late.

I don't think anyone is sleeping or overlooking the Dodgers though, they get tons of ink.

I do think there is a little skepticism about the playoffs. Anything can happen in the fall. We'll see how they finish the year. I would love to see Houston win the pennant, personally.
2619018, Yu.....and adding 2 lefties
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Mon Jul-31-17 03:49 PM
both with closer experience in Watson and Cingrani..

and kept Buehler and Verduzco.... great deadline moves...

hate losing Calhoun..but it was worth it..

I thought my Cubs were going to make a serious move.....
2619475, 43-7...best 50 game stretch in 105 years
Posted by LA2Philly, Sat Aug-05-17 07:38 PM
5 homers today and yesterday, Yu looked so filthy. 2-speed, 4-speed, slider, 2 spin curves...if he's locating, pretty damn elite.
2619476, I am giddy at the prospects right now, as long as Kershaw is 100% for Oct.
Posted by DJR, Sat Aug-05-17 07:54 PM
This rotation(with Kershaw) is going to be a monster in a playoff series, the pen is legit, the lineup is deep, deep, deeper than Atlantis. I'm not burying the Cubs yet, but the rest of the national league isn't looking overly tough either. Washington is solid, but we beat them in a hell of a series last year. The hoe ass Cardinals.....I'm always hesitant to bury them, but they're not showing much.
2619480, It's actually shocking when the Dodgers lose
Posted by justin_scott, Sat Aug-05-17 09:57 PM
can't believe how good the team is right now.
2620304, seen a lot of baseball.... haven't seen many teams playing

2620309, I'm with you...

this is unreal
2620312, on pace for what...115 wins? that home record is savagery
Posted by Cenario, Thu Aug-17-17 08:41 AM
2620329, On pace for 116 after last night
Posted by LA2Philly, Thu Aug-17-17 09:58 AM
2620417, Even if they hit 115-ish, won't tell the whole story
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Aug-18-17 03:09 PM
We've seen teams in the 110-win range like the Angels, Mariners, etc. I think this team is more impressive so far. Again though what really matters is your play down the stretch. Of course we will see how they handle it, because with a cushion they may coast a little. Not necessarily a bad thing, just makes them a little tougher to evaluate going into the playoffs. I think they have had something like 18 series sweeps this year. That is crazy. I wonder what the all time record is.
2620430, 19/18 are 1 and 2.
Posted by Nodima, Sat Aug-19-17 12:14 AM
New York Mets during 1986: 19 sweeps.
Atlanta Braves during 1997: 19 sweeps.
Kansas City Royals during 1977: 19 sweeps.
Boston Red Sox during 1978: 18 sweeps.
Philadelphia Phillies during 1977: 18 sweeps.

this dude apparently specifically tracks this stuff for...whatever reason lol.

http://mlbsweeps.com/records/

@DoctorPaulNYC My database starts in 1977, since then 19 sweeps in a season is the most. Done 3 times. https://t.co/Rz5cHeoLM9

@DJBuxx Actually, they had 18. '86 Mets, '97 Braves and' 77 Royals all had 19. https://t.co/Rz5cHeoLM9

#Dodgers dominate #Mets in #MLB Sunday Night Baseball to complete 15th sweep of season. Since 1977, most sweeps in a season is 19.

Justin Turner with the 2-run shot, #Dodgers up 5-0 over #Mets , cruising for their 15th sweep of the #MLB season.

Sunday Night Baseball! Unsurprisingly, the #Dodgers are aiming for yet another sweep. This time against the #Mets . #MLB

2620372, the Mariners got a lot of lucky breaks in 2001
Posted by Nodima, Fri Aug-18-17 07:52 AM
From what the podcasts I listen to say, all the numbers point to this Dodgers team should actually be winning more than they are, if anything.

2620455, and they went 14-12 in April!
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Sat Aug-19-17 01:54 PM
12 losses in April
9 in May...
2620459, not sure how i feel about these recent pick ups
Posted by justin_scott, Sat Aug-19-17 04:32 PM
Yu looked great his first game, but has looked meh since, and now he's on the disabled list. Granderson can't hit for shit, unless it's an occasional HR (Joc Pederson can't hit either, but i feel he's a far better defensive player).
2620461, Yu great, then meh then hurt?
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Sat Aug-19-17 05:40 PM
pretty much his entire career in texas in one sentence

i hope he is more great than the rest for the dodgers!
2620466, Yu is pre-cautionary, Grandy's OPS is the 2nd highest of his career
Posted by LA2Philly, Sat Aug-19-17 10:00 PM
And over .900 against key playoff pitchers that we may face, and it also allowed us to send Joc down to AAA to take the pressure off him and work on his swing.

As for Yu, even while not being able to locate, he's sub 3 era. We use the DL as a pre-cautionary measure often and same thing here, also allows the player to work on mechanics. A huge reason we have the depth we have and continue to acquire it is to allow for these stints.
2620467, im so excited to see yu play for LA
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Sat Aug-19-17 10:43 PM
just always a bunch of what if's in texas

got the worst run support from us

he could look completely off int he first inning

second inning hes throwing a different set of pitches

when the 95 mph FB and the 67 mph curve are working its awesome
2622382, Grandy's OPS is the 2nd highest of what, his Mets career?
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Sun Sep-10-17 12:33 PM
.
2620481, Grandy a great bat to have off the bench, vet presence.
Posted by Cenario, Sun Aug-20-17 11:44 AM
He won't hurt you
2620583, yeah, I'll take my L on that
Posted by justin_scott, Tue Aug-22-17 01:12 AM
more i read about him, seems like a great person. went nuts today at the plate.
2620782, Granderson and with Gonzalez coming back...
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Wed Aug-23-17 01:02 AM
Dodgers have a ton of weapons..

Granderson is the perfect vet for us too...
2621830, well, maybe i was right
Posted by justin_scott, Sat Sep-02-17 11:54 PM
Darvish sucks. Granderson is meh i guess.
2620940, rich hill no-hitter thru 9....headed back out for extras....

2620941, josh harrison walks him off immediately.
Posted by kinetic94761180, Wed Aug-23-17 08:42 PM

impressive, still.

roberts will be questioned.
2620949, All timer.... I won't forget that game for a long time
Posted by Wonderl33t, Thu Aug-24-17 08:09 AM
Gotta love how Rich just walked off the mound like a professional. Damn. Also, I wonder if losing the perfect game made the walkoff not hurt so much.

2620943, Sucks the offense had their outlier night on a performance like Rich's
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Aug-23-17 09:08 PM
25 runs stranded, albeit 2 excellent defensive plays by the Pirates to deny runs. I guess that's bound to happen when neither of your clean-up hitters are in the lineup (JT rest day, Belly on the 10 day).

Regardless of outcome, incredible game by Rich and one to build on, particularly with how he threw the fb at a higher rate which completely had the Pirates off-balance
2621831, Dodgers are a mess right now
Posted by justin_scott, Sat Sep-02-17 11:55 PM
hopefully they turn it around, but this is pretty much what happens every year.
2621833, Lol - your small sample size extreme fluctuations are pretty silly
Posted by LA2Philly, Sun Sep-03-17 12:21 AM
2622401, like i said, the last 20-25 games mean so much
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Sep-10-17 02:09 PM
they still have the most talent in the NL but man does this team have the feel of a club that peaked early
2622479, Nationals have just as much talent
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Mon Sep-11-17 01:05 PM
maybe even moreso. but yeah Dodgers are stacked, this slide they're on kinda just defies logic. they're like the complete inverse of the '88 Dodgers.
2622369, Ok, this has gotten ridiculous now and I am officially worried

I have tried to remain calm during the entire season. In August I really started to get excited. Maybe this is our year. There is no way we are going to collapse in September again. We are winning a ring this year. Man man man this fucking team. I hope they prove me wrong.
2625831, damn... Seagar out for the Cubs series with a back injury...
