2617560, Wimbledon
Posted by go mack, Thu Jul-13-17 12:56 PM
Was gonna make a post earlier but was waiting for someone else.

Some good matches so far. Nadal defeated in a 4 and a half hour early exit. Djokovic forced to retire with a arm injury in quarterfinals. Murray gets bested in quarterfinals to American Sam Querrey who interestingly knocked off #1 Joker last year at Wimbledon.

Fed in semifinals is now clear favorite, can he win Grand Slam title #19? He's already Goat so just more icing but pulling for the old man, would like to see him get 20 before he retires.

Venus in the finals. With Serena out seems like she is giving even more effort to get another championship.

When Venus, Serena and Federer retire, I'm most likely gonna lose a lot of interest in tennis.
2617564, Tiafoe, Zverev and Kyrgios are pretty good from the youngins.

2617573, this kid Donaldson was pretty decent, hopefully we see more of him

had never heard of him before but he resisted very well against Thiem despite losing in straights (really good stuff in the first two sets). He's 20 so he may be another hope for the US
2617567, Go Venus.....

2617590, hoping Fed pulls through for another

2617601, Major props to Venus. To make it this far at her age is impressive
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Fri Jul-14-17 07:30 AM
I think if she wins, she will break the record for the longest lapse in between grand slam titles.

I know I should probably be pulling for Querry out of patriotism, but nah, I like and respect Fed too much and want to see him get another slam.
2617633, Querry lost, you're good

2617642, both of y'all misspelling his name says a lot about how random this was

I honestly can't remember a single thing about his career up to this tournament. Played very solid, hopefully he keeps it up in the leadup to the US Open
2617778, He wears Fila

That's all I care about.
2617629, good on Fed

really clinical win today, despite firm opposition from Berdych. But once you get to TB it's Roger time.
Won't be hard to root for him on Sunday since he's up against the accidental doper.
2617695, damn, Venus spraying shots everywhere...
Posted by Dstl1, Sat Jul-15-17 09:19 AM
looks off-balanced on a lot of her forehands and not willing to engage in long rallies.
2617696, this young girl is strong...and she's here for this

.
2617707, Props to both Venus and Gabrine

Venus dealt with a lot off the court heading into the tourney but she was able to use the game as a reprieve. Her and Coach Witt really worked on her 2nd serve and forehand to make it more consistent (although the latter left been today, once her confidence was down, she started opening up way too much).

Gabrine - helluva tournament, so impressive. The resilience to bounce back and defeat Kerber after losing the 1st set and today just stepping on the proverbial throat once she had the momentum and confidence, she never let up until the deed was done. Congrats
2617732, Roger!

put a clinic on Cillic. Was he really injured or did he just have a mental breakdown? Fed didn't drop a set entire tournament, amazing.
2617733, Probably a bit of both

>Was he really injured or did he just have a mental breakdown?

Pretty underwhelming match after the competitive start, but wow who would've thought that Fed would/could win not one, but two Slams at the start of the year.

We just need a Fed/Nadal match to finally happen at the US Open.
2617734, fastest final I can remember

Felt like even if Cilic was completely healthy this was never going to be close.

2617735, Champions of Clay Court Coulotte Clad Charlatan: where you at?

The longevity and quality of his career is staggering. Incredible tennis today.
2617809, alright, i'm done hating
Posted by Kungset, Mon Jul-17-17 11:45 AM
the Wimbledon title thing was the last thing i was holding on to as someone who grew up watching Sampras. i know it's like 8 years too late but all props to him, he is the GOAT.
2617820, RE: alright, i'm done hating

I remember when Sampras record seemed unbreakable. Now 2 have already surpassed it and Djokovic probably will as well.

Nadal's French Open dominance is crazy tho, 10 titles from there when most of the greats have maybe 1 and Sampras never won there.
2769325, 4 in a row
Posted by Ceej, Mon Jul-11-22 08:52 AM
No Big deal.

Imagine and unopposed Rafa or Roger or Djok era.

Theyd have 40+ Grand Slams with ease.
2769326, Was just telling my wife this the other day. Insane.

The chances of there being one player this good at any time were essentially zero until Federer came along and instead we get three.
2769327, Gonna be weird when all 3 are done , the bar is set so high sheesh

I don’t think any of them have this longevity without suitable competition and motivation
2769469, Good point
