So who signs KCP and for how much.
2617006, KC-Pope might end up doing a 1 year deal.

their defense is atrocious.
2617010, good. Let porter walk, take KCp

2617018, Hopefully - we will offer 17 million and a guaranteed starting spot
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Jul-07-17 02:03 PM
INets might throw him a big contract after Washington matches Otto's offer but hopefully they take their sweet time (collusion time) and wait until tmrw night so we have 24 hours to full-court press KCP
2617037, I like this, but he's gotta wait for brooklyn
Posted by bshelly, Fri Jul-07-17 05:19 PM
I don't think he's getting anywhere near the max now--his leverage is gone--but Brooklyn still might do something like a 3+1 for 60 million. Can't turn down that for a one year offer.
2617007, im a little perplexed
Posted by cgonz00cc, Fri Jul-07-17 01:01 PM
Bradley would be more expensive to resign next year, we actually TOOK ON salary in that deal, and just gave Langston Galloway 3/21 for no apparent reason. that move also hard capped trm because it was more than the MLE.

this HAS to mean youth movement and i pray to god its because they really believe in Ellenson, Stanley, and Kennard. Kennard basically has to be ready to start in 18/19 for this not to look super dumb. for that matter we also dont have a 3 unless the coaches are ready to start Stanley. Tobias is best at the 4 and Ellenson has to play now. so Leuer gotta go.

SVG loved Marcus, so something else must be coming. Im hoping its moving Leuer.
2617012, What dumb money

2617046, i dont know what they thought they were getting

and i dont know why they signed the basement projection for their 1st rd draft pick

its all a bit odd
2617030, Damn....lol
Posted by murph71, Fri Jul-07-17 04:13 PM

Boston just lost their best defender....They couldn't trade away one of the many SF's they had to create max money for Hayward? I'm not sure I would have made that deal....
2617034, Bradley is an UFA next summer, C's weren't re-signing
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Jul-07-17 04:21 PM
Crowder is on a very team friendly contract and I'm sure Boston was looking for more in exchange for that reason.

C's are faced with re-signing IT and Smart next summer - I doubt they sign the latter but they already have replacements on hand with Jaylen/Tatum and 2 lottery picks next summer. Their entire plan is to keep costs controlled by signing top talent to max deals and then surrounding them with high talent on cost controlled deals via the draft.
2617035, plus Boston just got a legit starter at $5M

Sucks this couldn't have happened a little earlier, would've killed for the Wolves to take a shot at him.
2617026, Cap space question
Posted by cloak323, Fri Jul-07-17 03:09 PM
Boston moves Bradley for the Hayward deal, but they pick up Morris.
They say Bradley only had one year left at 7M, I think. Morris has 2 years at 10M, I think I heard.
So where's the cap relief?
2617027, 5 per vs 7 per
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Jul-07-17 03:15 PM
It's not about the full contract - it's about what they have to spend this year.
2617028, Bradley was due 8.8 mil, MM was due 5 mil...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Jul-07-17 03:17 PM

would have liked to see the clips take a stab at him
2617050, I'd be in love with the Celtics if they had kept Fultz
Posted by bshelly, Fri Jul-07-17 07:06 PM
They could play Fultz and all wings everything, switch everything, and be ready to make a really serious run at the warriors in 2-3 years. They're going to try to do it anyway with smart--I'm not even sure they're going to chase the midget that hard, and they shouldn't.

This draft was their chance to get a guy who could drive the offense, provide the scoring they need, still fit into the defensive scheme. And if they really needed that other wing, they've got the Brooklyn pick and an excellent chance to draft luka or porter next season,

They fucked up.
2617066, Is Hayward really that much better than Bradley?!
Posted by BSharp, Fri Jul-07-17 08:18 PM
I think that trading Avery Bradley this turns the Hayward pickup into a lateral move or even a step backward. Having the best defensive guard in the league on your team is a factor that can propel your contending team to a championship level, and Bradley is the best defensive guard in the league.

I would've traded Smart *and* Crowder before losing Bradley.

Whatever.
2617144, yes but they werent paying bradley anyways
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Jul-08-17 06:51 PM
and neither will we (Pistons)

he is getting a 200% raise next year
2617192, crowder is on one of the best deals in the league
Posted by SsenepoD, Sun Jul-09-17 04:34 PM
he gives them front court versatility...and bradley was gonna get a max deal. i think the dropoff from him to smart is less than the increase from hayward to bradley

Not bad I guess.

It fills a positional need.
Carroll is overpaid but nets have the room
And get a 1st (lottery protected) and 2nd for it.

Carroll gets reunited with Atkinson
2617189, RE: Nets Lose out on Otto but pick up the Carroll salary dump
Posted by SsenepoD, Sun Jul-09-17 04:30 PM
good move. nets aren't doing anything in the next 2 years so it's not like he's really clogging anything up, they get an extra pick, & could always flip him in a year & a half to a fake contender looking to add depth
2617163, Zaza back to the Warriors for 1 year, $3.5 million
Posted by mrhood75, Sun Jul-09-17 12:37 AM
Makes sense, as we still didn't have a starting center.

Zaza was about as good as he was expected to be, not better (like, say, McGee). So he gets a slight pay bump, with hopes that he can sign one more big contract somewhere after this.
2617188, RE: Zaza back to the Warriors for 1 year, $3.5 million

good for zaza.
2617170, Crawford going to Minny
Posted by Marauder21, Sun Jul-09-17 08:24 AM
I don't really like this move. Still a 40% shooter but he's been dropping off significantly since his first couple seasons with the Clips and he would seem to be inconsistent with the "look at how good the defense will be, though" moves.

2617247, Knicks need to rebuild, wiz are more win now
Posted by Cenario, Mon Jul-10-17 11:40 AM
2617248, Porter currently has more worth to the Wizards
Posted by Numba_33, Mon Jul-10-17 11:41 AM
than Hardaway currently does with the Knicks. It's entirely possible Porter will regress and get worse since he in effect was playing in a contract year last year and perhaps there is some small glimmer of hope Hardaway will improve upon how he played for the Hawks last year, but based on their recent bodies of work, the Porter contract makes a ton more sense than the Hardaway deal, especially since the Knicks probably could have spent roughly $10-$15 mil less for the overall deal to 'win' him from the Hawks.
2617252, Hardaway did 17/4/3 on 46/36/83 over the last 41 games
Posted by cgonz00cc, Mon Jul-10-17 12:09 PM
ive been saying since he came out that his work ethic will carry him to a lot of improvement over time

hes a legit starting NBA 2 guard right now

the only negative on him is that averaging 20 ppg over 5 games could mean 33, 7, 25, 11, 24 instead of consistent even output. been that way since Michigan. it evens out well over time, but there will be 4/17(1/7) nights
2617253, Wiz could have brought Nick back and spent less on a SF...

(And the young French dude if he can play)

They're gonna have to do it the old fashioned way by continuing to draft well and grabbing depth through free agency.

Ain't no star free agent heading to NYC anytime soon. I can't see it.
2617405, KCP to the Lakers - 1 year, 18 Million.
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Jul-11-17 11:43 PM
I'll fucking take it.
2617407, He & Rajon were visiting w us today - wasn't holding my breath on KCP
Posted by LA2Philly, Tue Jul-11-17 11:56 PM
Looks like the market dried up for him with that late entry into UFA...but as you said, we'll fucking take it and run.

He's such a good fit - fills our biggest need at the 2, huge defensive addition, great in transition on the wings, by all accounts an extremely hard worker who at 24 will be very relatable and impressionable on the younger kids, and you have to figure he gets into the high 30's at min with Lonzo setting him up.

I'll be surprised if we don't use the MLE on Rajon and call it a day. Ganguli (LA times lakers beat writer) mentioned last week that FO had reached out to Kobe regarding Rondo and he only had glowing things to say - additionally, he was the one vet in Chicago who stood up for the young kids and had their backs.

2617408, I'd be shocked if he signed for the MLE though.
Posted by Ryan M, Wed Jul-12-17 12:12 AM

We offered the remaining cap space on a 1 year deal to Hill, Waiters, and now KCP. The latter took it because of the timing and fortunately for us may be the best fit due to his 3 and D ability and age.

perfect deal really.
2617472, a shooter?
Posted by dula dibiasi, Wed Jul-12-17 04:21 PM
i thought they signed KCP
2617475, He's an average shooter overall but his shooting strengths align
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Jul-12-17 04:39 PM
He was right on the border of top 1/3 in the league on set shooting and was good coming off screens/hand-offs as well. That bodes well for his production with Lonzo feeding him in those spots.

He was really poor when attacking rotations and his shot selection can leave something to be desired.
2617476, i.e. he isn't awful
Posted by dula dibiasi, Wed Jul-12-17 04:50 PM
BW characterizing him as "a shooter" was a bit much
2617482, In terms of 3-pt shooting, he's dead average at 35%
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Jul-12-17 05:56 PM
Which is the league average. Regardless I agree that labeling him as a "shooter" is silly lol, but I do believe his numbers will go up for the reasons I mentioned above - I think he'll come up to the high 30's from 3 with the same or more attempts as last year per game (6.2)
2617483, that's the overall league average tho.
Posted by dula dibiasi, Wed Jul-12-17 06:18 PM
for SGs it's closer to 38-39

this past season his 3p% ranked 50th out of the 60 qualified players at his position

http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/3-points/sort/threePointFieldGoalPct/position/shooting-guards

but yeah, it should improve with a better PG feeding him
2617488, Ah word. So my hope is he'll be average this year
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Jul-12-17 06:48 PM
Even then, he'd likely be our best shooter lol
2617425, Should I know who this guy is?
Posted by Numba_33, Wed Jul-12-17 08:12 AM

Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Wed Jul-12-17 03:54 PM

Posted by Mignight Maruder, Fri Jul-14-17 08:18 AM
play and sign him for whatever he requests. After all, he was arguably the most consistent and productive player after Kawhi and certainly post Kawhi injury.

The problem is that he will be turning 28 next season and has limited NBA (playing big minutes) experience. He wasn't nearly as impressive during the regular season so it's really tough to evaluate and determine his future.

I'm sure he wants to maximize his future earnings as this may be his one and only chance to land a lucrative deal. I don't fault him one bit for that. The Spurs are cash strapped and imo, still need to invest some $ in a rim protector. They're really not in a position to overpay Simmons.

Tough spot. I wish Simmons all the best if he signs somewhere else though.

didn't make me too happy when I saw this news after work last night. Most of the article I skimmed on the dude appear to be positive, so I suppose there's some room for muted hope.

With the way David Griffin pulled himself from contention, I have the worrying feeling this dude was hired because he won't do too much to rock the boat of dysfunction that is the Knicks, which doesn't make me too happy.

I hope the Knicks don't have to give up draft picks as compensation to hired this dude and it's strictly money from Dolan's checkbook. Also curious to see if this means anything in terms of Carmelo Anthony moving on from the team.

2618073, It's Cleveland and a one year deal, so good for them
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Jul-20-17 10:44 AM
It's not like they need him to do anything more than Deron Williams last year.
2618074, Cavs will have two MVPs on the roster, NO EXCUSES!

2618084, This is not enough help
Posted by Kira, Thu Jul-20-17 01:25 PM
Cavs have to do better and surround Bron with top tier talent. Where's our Iggy? Koby has to get Bron an Iggy and some more help.
2618497, DRose to the Cavs: 1 yr/2.1 mill
Posted by Kira, Mon Jul-24-17 07:08 PM
NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY IN CLEVELAND (c)

The post return payout from ^^ this agenda is priceless.

Now we've got some insurance in case Ky leaves. TJ Williams is hopefully signed and plays in on our dleague team. Ky starting with DRose backing him up running the fuck out of the second unit, and TJ developing.

This isn't enough help but we're screwed anyway so might as well start trying to gun for a title while prepping in case everything is dismantled next offseason.
2618505, Two MVPs just like the Warriors. NO EXCUSES!

2618529, Lol at that contact

. Dude played like a selfish ball hog last season to land this contract. Spools have played more like a point guard
2618531, A former MVP. Meanwhile JJ Redick getting 20+ for one year. SMH
Posted by Tiger Woods, Tue Jul-25-17 08:28 AM
2618542, Being dependably healthy and a 40+ 3FG% will do that
Posted by Basaglia, Tue Jul-25-17 09:17 AM
2618532, Rose and Lebron in the starting lineup is a terrible combo
Posted by Cenario, Tue Jul-25-17 08:46 AM
they'd been better off hollering @ butter.
2618572, Nice: brooklyn trades Nicholson for Crabbe
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Tue Jul-25-17 02:17 PM
Nicholson getting waived and stretched

crabbe 18 million a year now more like 12 million for BK
They have a 2/3 they can switch in a bit.

How does this clear space for the Portland deal to help get harden to Houston?
2618577, Very curious what happens with Lin
Posted by rjc27, Tue Jul-25-17 02:27 PM
I loved watching Lin last year and if he stayed healthy all year they could've maybe made a run at the 8 seed, they played real well down the stretch when he got rolling.

BUT, their backcourt now is surprisingly deep, and due to Lin's age, and him having one of the biggest bargain contracts in the league, I can see him fetching a nice haul come deadline time. They will give D-Russ every chance to the be man, with Whitehead backing him up and a rotation at the 2 of Crabbe/Levert/Skilpatrick (unless he goes)
2618579, no russ/lin backcourt?

2618574, This is how you play poker with a short stack
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Tue Jul-25-17 02:20 PM
Just runs and take any small wins you can get.

None of the marquee free agents that will create a crazy buzz, but this is pretty damn good

Does this set up the Melo trade to Houston?
2621223, Nerlens took the 1 yr 4.1 QO
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Sat Aug-26-17 12:22 PM
I think this means hes URFA next season.

So hell be betting on himself big time.

Hopefully he takes advantage then bounces on Mavs

2621231, Hopefully... fuck the Mavs

2621314, not shocking, one big season could mean $$$$$$$$$ for him
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Aug-27-17 11:32 AM
that said this magnifies colangelo's fuck up, the sixers got nothing for him.
2621316, Maybe. But next year is a big FA year.
Posted by Ryan M, Sun Aug-27-17 11:49 AM
He screwed up not taking the reported 4/70 offer.
2621340, Also by taking 4 million this year hes -13million
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Sun Aug-27-17 10:13 PM
so he would need to make 21 million a year on his next contract over 4 years to make up for this years lost 13 milly
