massive pickup for him.
2609206, Perfect fit for both Shaka and Bamba, really.

Remember when folks kicked dirt on Shaka and said he made a mistake? Last year, he had one of the youngest teams in the country-- and now he brings in the fourth ranked recruiting class in the country, including his PG of the future in Coleman and an easy Jarrett Allen replacement in Bamba. Don't be surprised by a Texas tourney bid this year, even only one year after an 11-win season.

Bamba's the ideal big man for Havoc. Runs like a monster, insanely long, but also smart and with good hands. He'll be the star there next year, which is what he deserves.

Wished he coulda gone to Duke, but I completely understand, and from what I've heard Duke hasn't been seriously in the running for a month or two, so pretty much what I expected.
2609210, Perfect fit but they might make the tourney? C'mon.

2609298, Considering he wants to be featured? Yeah.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri May-19-17 01:56 AM
He clearly ain't trying to be one of five or six pieces, he's trying to be the star, or he would've gone elsewhere. And few recruits who ever pick a non-Duke-or-UK find a match as perfect as Bamba did with Shaka.
2609250, so is he a 3 or a 4?
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu May-18-17 04:13 PM
2609270, 5
Posted by cgonz00cc, Thu May-18-17 05:41 PM
2609299, 5 all day. No comical "stretch 4" claims here.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri May-19-17 01:57 AM
His potential is peak DeAndre Jordan... higher, really, as he has a better stroke. But he could be DeAndre Jordan for Texas out of the gate.
2609209, Good get. He's a nice player.

2609217, Hooked em

Good get for Shaka.
2609249, where I hoped he'd go
Posted by themaddfapper, Thu May-18-17 04:13 PM
for no other reason than he'd do it his way.

I hope jones comes back.

I hope banks does most of the dirty work and Mo is free to block shots and go nuts.

super psyched for him.
2609253, You did say this. His reasoning was sound.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Thu May-18-17 04:25 PM
I dig it.
2609259, That is some amazing writing for a high school athlete.

Brilliant individual.
2609300, ... not to #actually this, because he is a really bright kid...

2609274, I initially read this as "Mamba to Texas"

2616062, Big bitch ass clown.
Posted by Beezo, Thu Jun-29-17 04:36 PM
Damn shame
2616063, The more I think, the more the brother comes off as a desperate fraud.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-29-17 04:38 PM
He thought he could ride his brother's coattails to sports agent status, Bamba looked out for himself and cut him off, and now dude justifies Bamba's decision by lashing out publicly in a weird and desperate manner.

If he actually wanted to get Bamba in trouble, it'd be super super easy to do: talk to the NCAA, and have literally *a* receipt. Just one bit of evidence. One. Even just a dodgy-looking photo or two. He wouldn't need to out himself as the source who turned in Bamba. He'd just achieve his goal.

Instead, he undermines his case by making a rambling and unhinged video, citing a ton of shit without a shred of evidence, and making Bamba's defense-- "my brother is an angry and petulant fraud"-- seem overwhelmingly more credible than if he'd gone the other route.

Why would he make this video instead of going a more covert route?
1. To get his name out there as someone who was important to a future NBA player and knows what's best for him.
2. To besmirch Bamba's public image with rumors and innuendos.

Of course, #1 is laughable as the guy looks and sounds like an angry lunatic, and #2 won't work either, because delivering one receipt to the NCAA would sully Bamba's reputation way more than what the brother actually did.

Either he's a desperate fraud trying to scare his brother, or he's a non-fraud trying to publicly blackmail his brother. I lean the former, as even if Bamba did collect all those improper benefits, he will still be a top 10 pick even if he never plays a single game at Texas, and I'd be goddamned if my brother saw a fucking PENNY of mine ever if he tried publicly outing me like that. But even if it is the latter, this dude is a nutjob who is hurting his case with a video like this.
2616074, Yup, Greer Love could be a complete POS and scammer
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Jun-29-17 06:28 PM
But his "No, you can't trust your older brother if you're serious about your future" stance was just proven 100% correct.

How does this dude think this is going to end?
2616077, Desperate definitely. But a fraud I doubt
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jun-29-17 06:56 PM
All these kids can be exposed for similar shit if somebody bothered to do it.
2616085, What's his goal in doing this, though?
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-29-17 09:33 PM
It's not to get him disqualified for college play, because allegations don't do that. Receipts do that. So why in the world would he make *this* his play?
2616095, isnt that what he said he did for the NCAA?
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Thu Jun-29-17 11:05 PM
I mean either way this will put a target on Mo's back and people are gonna be looking for the receipts. If you know where to look they arent hard to find for most top recruits. He basically dropped cookie crumbs all the way.

What his brother did was petty as shit and would probably burn any bridges. Maybe thats where he felt he was at though . Like you said he isnt the sharpest tool in the shed but this is his little brother. Some random white dude came through and cockblocked their relationship and supposedly cut him out of the picture. This is a real desperation revenge play to get back at the dude and maybe on some "if i cant have him, neither can you" shit
2616099, Except it's not even that. If anything, it's the opposite.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Jun-30-17 12:07 AM
This is a real desperation revenge play to get
>back at the dude and maybe on some "if i cant have him,
>neither can you" shit

This will drive Bamba *closer* to this dude, because it proves that Bamba was 100% right to leave his brother. Not to mention the thing that nobody's really mentioning-- even if Bamba did accept all of these things, it's a "so the fuck what" for him, because even without playing at Texas, he's a Top 10 pick or higher and will be a millionaire this time next year.

In all honesty, let's say the brother's goal was to fuck his brother up-- it's possible that, if he prevents him from playing next year, he *saves* his brother's draft stock and helps him get even *more* money, lol.

If his goal was some "if I can't have him, neither can you" shit, then ooh boy, he doesn't understand this world at. all. and is probably the dumbest and most desperate motherfucker alive.

But I still don't believe his story. When your emotions are running high to the point of "goddamn you are a desperate idiot" and you do something this impulsive, you become a thousand times easier to discredit. Just calling the NCAA and *not* recording this video would've achieved his goal ten times more effectively-- again, assuming his story is true.
2616082, he sounds mad hurt...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Jun-29-17 07:59 PM
but he seems genuine in the things he's saying.

http://texas.247sports.com/Article/Exclusive-Elite-Texas-Commit-Mo-Bambas-Longtime-Mentor-Responds—53379813

A day less than five weeks after McDonald’s All-American Mohamed Bamba announced that he was committing to the University of Texas, his estranged half-brother Ibrahim "Abe" Johnson mounted a series of public attacks via the platform of Facebook, culminating in a twenty-two minute poolside video rant against both Bamba and his long-time mentor Greer Love. In the lengthy diatribe, Johnson salaciously accuses his half-brother of committing NCAA violations with his mentor Love.

While this was the first time the general public may have been made aware of the unique relationship between the estranged brothers and long-time Bamba confidant Love, it was merely the latest example of a mounting battle between the estranged brothers. Ibrahim Johnson, who is currently facing court dates for five separate felony and misdemeanor charges in five states (FL, NY, SC, OH, and IL), was long rumored to be a figure looking to exploit his five-star half-brother’s recruitment in the grassroots, college, and professional community.

After a series of efforts made by his family to keep Ibrahim Johnson on a clear path during Bamba’s recruitment, in January of this year, Johnson was completely removed from the recruiting process, after it became apparent to the family that he was steadfast in his search for personal gain and unwilling to abide by Bamba’s wishes of a clean, NCAA-compliant recruitment.

Since then, Johnson has racked up a series of charges, including three in March: hit-and-run in Florida, forgery, falsification, petty theft, and possession of drugs in Ohio, and possession of drugs in South Carolina. After his most recent charge last week for theft in Illinois, Johnson allegedly, in an act of desperation, made several physical and verbal threats to "expose" Mohamed Bamba’s longtime mentor Greer Love, despite the fact that every compliance department of each school that Bamba visited and ultimately the NCAA Eligibility Center had cleared the duo, due to the long-standing and documented pre-existing relationship. The threats to accuse Bamba and Love of committing NCAA violations came after the duo refused to comply with Johnson’s recent demands for various impermissible benefits.

Wednesday night, Texas released the following statement to Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo Sports, "As is usual practice by the NCAA, Mo’s amateur status was previously reviewed and final certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center. The NCAA has not informed us of any pending issues or eligibility concerns at this time regarding Mo. If there are further questions, we certainly will cooperate with the NCAA to the fullest."

Greer Love, now a vice-president at Huron Capital in Michigan, met Mohamed Bamba nine years ago, as part of a comprehensive after-school program at P.S. 208 (Alain L. Locke Elementary School) in Bamba’s native Harlem. The program, which Love founded in 2008, called "Locke’s Lions," consisted of study tables, basketball practice, and league competition. Love has supplied academic and financial support to nearly every student who was on the roster in 2008 or 2009, helping them navigate the challenging periods of middle school, high school, and often college. While the Longhorns incoming freshman may be the most well-known to date, Bamba is the only student of the substantial group to this point who has gone on to play college basketball.

Steve Tulleners, who was Mohamed Bamba’s academic advisor and associate head basketball coach at the Westtown School, said, "We fully support the understanding student-athlete and community member we have known Mohamed Bamba to be. During his time at Westtown, Mo’s family approved Greer Love as a family point-of-contact to help manage and mentor him throughout the college recruitment process."

Although Love earned an undergraduate degree at Indiana University and an MBA at the University of Michigan, the private equity investor is not a "booster" of any university. After Mo Bamba lead his PSA Cardinals to a Peach Jam Championship game, the consensus top three 2017 player and his family felt that it was imperative that the longtime family friend take over his recruitment process and manage the logistics, under the belief that Love would be able to avoid any conflicts or biases that frequently permeate modern elite-level basketball recruitments.

"When Mo asked me to guide him and help coordinate the logistics of his recruitment," Love told 247Sports, "I immediately engaged the former Chief Compliance Officer of two Big 10 / Big 12 schools, who provided frequent consultation on a variety of matters. Doing things the right way has been our top priority since day one. Mo’s got way too much to lose to take any chances on anything even remotely impermissible. With my 9-year, pre-existing relationship on the line with Mo personally, let alone his college eligibility, I took several additional measures to ensure that Mo was fully compliant every step of the way."
