2607209, A Laker mentoring a Celtic...during the playoffs.

https://sports.yahoo.com/news/kobe-bryant-helping-isaiah-thomas-225113212.html

No wonder Isaiah Thomas put together a monster 53-point game on Tuesday — he’s been talking to one of the best big game players in NBA history.

Thomas revealed on Wednesday he’s been in communication with Kobe Bryant, getting some scouting reports and a perspective of what Kobe sees, what to watch on film. Here’s what Thomas said, via A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com.

John Wall will be texting Kobe in 3…2…

The best players lean on each other, trainers, pretty much anyone they trust to provide a different perspective and give them ideas on how to attack certain players or situations. Kobe watched as much film, studied the game and his opponent, as much as any player in the league. He has seen everything. It’s a fantastic perspective to get.

It’s a great move by Thomas to lean on him.

Even Red Auerbach would be good with a Laker helping a Celtic in this case.

2607214, He's dead to me.
Posted by bignick, Wed May-03-17 07:47 PM
2607216, He's so focused on Lebron.
Posted by Ryan M, Wed May-03-17 08:00 PM
All that said...I find these Celtics kinda likable sorta.

But still this is dumb
2607222, That is how I interpreted this...
Posted by Castro, Wed May-03-17 08:18 PM
as if Bron hasn't already surpassed him.
2607230, thats a logic leap
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed May-03-17 09:17 PM
kobe takes an interest in certain players. kyrie is one of them. isaiah is another. iirc devin booker. it's usually a GUARD not a forward like lebron
2607235, Dogg I don't care.
Posted by Ryan M, Wed May-03-17 09:56 PM
2607295, lmao. You ok bruh? Why are you posting like OE or Basa right now?
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu May-04-17 12:40 PM
2607225, I'm good with it. I like IT and his journey.
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed May-03-17 08:38 PM
I hate that it's a Celtic but fuck it.
2607231, Nothing new, Kobe's pretty open w his communication w players
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed May-03-17 09:21 PM
Yet another example here. IT also admittedly grew up a Laker and Kobe fan so it would be highly unlikely if they haven't connected before.
2607237, And Kawhi was training with him...he's still the Daddy
Posted by theeraser, Wed May-03-17 10:16 PM
2607239, Yeh, as did Hayward...and a number of other players
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed May-03-17 10:35 PM
He's never been shy about mentoring or teaching talented players
2607282, lol @ anyone taking issue with this...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Thu May-04-17 11:54 AM
...the only people who form restricted alliances in professional sports are the fanatics.

*garnett is a rare exception.

anyone who sees this as kobe targeting lebron would be quick to remember that kobe & kyrie speak on a regular basis about the very same thing.

*skatin' the rings of saturn*

..and miles to go before i sleep...
2607284, Not to mention Kobe seeking the advice of older players
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu May-04-17 12:03 PM
He's literally just doing the same thing that was done for him when he was playing.
2607288, I never saw a Wilt tutoring Moses during the Playoffs
Posted by Castro, Thu May-04-17 12:21 PM
Offseason is totally different.
2607294, I don't really care who didn't do what 40 years ago
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu May-04-17 12:37 PM
Do you want to see a list of things that were different "back in the day"?

If your barometer for why something is or isn't acceptable today hinges on whether or not people did it way back when, you don't really have an argument.

2607296, Nowhere did I say it was unacceptable...
Posted by Castro, Thu May-04-17 12:43 PM
its strange, particularly given the team's two histories, and that is part of what made it newsworthy.
2607297, I never saw a Wilt tutoring Moses during the Playoffs
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu May-04-17 12:46 PM
What's that got to do with, well, anything?
2607285, My only issue here is... why aren't Lakers players doing this?
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu May-04-17 12:05 PM
If that's the case.

I recently read a report that BI hasn't worked out with Kobe yet. I don't know how true that is or isn't though.

Everyone on this team should be beating down his door at 2 am trying to get some of what he had.
2607289, ^^^^^^^ Yeah, Fake ass Laker fans, what about this?
Posted by Castro, Thu May-04-17 12:22 PM
Worthy not tutoring Randle?

Norm Nixon coming in to work with Russell?
2607302, that report is true.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu May-04-17 01:13 PM
who knows maybe them niggas just aint asked yet. cant get what you dont ask for.

maybe they gotta be at a certain level before they can step to the altar.

idk im not tripping off that shit tho.
2607345, Maybe he's giving the Lakers a little space
Posted by Cocobrotha2, Thu May-04-17 05:46 PM
And letting them develop a little bit outside of his shadow.

Or maybe he doesn't feel any of them are worthy right now.
2607349, Probably bc they're taking some time off after the season
Posted by LA2Philly, Thu May-04-17 06:05 PM
Recovery is as important as doing the work.
2607392, Well... Its been a whole season.
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu May-04-17 09:44 PM
Obviously we have no way of knowing why.

It's not like they can't be successful without Kobe's tutelage.

It's still a little glaring to read about Kobe working with players from other teams while also reading that he hasn't been working with Lakers.
2607399, Hmmm....
Posted by Kira, Thu May-04-17 11:31 PM
Some of them are probably sour over how his run ended.

It would greatly benefit them but it takes humility to do that. They need to come to him to ask for help and he's sure to provide it if he wants to. I wouldn't be surprised if Magic takes note of who does and doesn't reach out to Kobe as he evaluates things moving forward.

Coach Walton should reach out to Kobe not for advice but to provide another perspective on things. They have a solid rapport so it's not a complete stretch for this to happen.
2607400, Lol, BI and DLo have both said they are going to train this summer w him
Posted by LA2Philly, Thu May-04-17 11:42 PM
Kobe and Julius are known to be tight and constantly texting. Luke himself has said he's spoken to Kobe about a few things.

Stop with the narrative and KIM
2607410, Lol why didn't you hit us with this in the last post? I for one am happy to hear it
Posted by Cold Truth, Fri May-05-17 10:07 AM
2607472, Oh I honestly thought you already knew that
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri May-05-17 06:06 PM
That's why I was saying they are likely just taking a break first. Kira is a Cavs guy so I expected him not to know that info
2607482, Ah that makes sense. Yeah i genuinely had no clue.
Posted by Cold Truth, Fri May-05-17 08:08 PM
I'm glad to hear it though
