2602944, Tony Romo to retire (swipe)
Posted by Dstl1, Tue Apr-04-17 06:50 AM
Peace, Tone. Been a Cowboys fan for over 35 years...my favorite Cowboy, second only to Emmitt. Dude has a young family, is still relatively healthy, plenty of loot and will now get pretty much any TV job he wants. His "legacy" can and will be debated, but he was a hell of a QB, when healthy...the "when healthy" is what most people will use to drag him down, but, it is what it is.

Report: Tony Romo plans to retire from football, go into broadcasting

Tony Romo’s NFL career is coming to an end.

Romo has decided to retire from the NFL and enter broadcasting, ESPN reports.

There have been widespread reports that Romo has lucrative offers to work in TV and could replace Phil Simms as the No. 1 analyst on CBS. Those offers have apparently led Romo to conclude that it’s time for him to walk away from playing and move into his next career.

Romo spent last season on the bench after a preseason back injury led to the promotion of Dak Prescott as the starting quarterback in Dallas. Although Romo had been widely viewed as the Cowboys’ franchise quarterback, Prescott’s outstanding rookie year made Romo expendable.

The Cowboys would have liked to trade Romo but found little interest, and the ESPN report says they will release Romo today. Although there’s been talk of the Broncos or Texans wanting him, it appears that he’s done playing football and will now broadcast football instead.

2602950, Why does he gets more love in Dallas than McNabb did in Philly?

This is why we'll never solve racism.

You have obvious, egregious shit like this, and nobody
wanna address it.

Why does Randall Cunningham who never won a playoff game get more love in Philly than McNabb?

Maybe ask Bernard Hopkins.

2603177, You’re asking why two very different fan bases react differently
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Apr-05-17 10:36 AM
To their respective players?

One of which has a massive and rabid national base that rivals that of the Lakers and Yankees while the other is smaller, generally more regional and in a city that is notoriously harsh as it is but who also passionately loves Allen Iverson, he of cornrows, tattoos and the very image of the young black male that sends white America into a frenzy hiding purses, daughters and dogs?

Meanwhile Romo is fucking Mexican WHO WAS BORN IN MEXICO and is a Dallas Cowboy, essentially a patron saint of Texas, a state so full of secessionists and pro-wall builders we may as well call it Trumpland.

If you wanted to make a separate post with an argument for McNabb being unfairly maligned during an era where Whitey was so uncomfortable with the growing influx and impact of black quarterbacks the goddamn emperor of the Conservative White Male himself, Rush Limbaugh, took a bullet for the cause, you’d probably be preaching to a big ass choir.

Instead you’re overreaching with a flimsy ass juxtaposition.
2603190, Romo is a Republican who don't rep Latinos. Almost never speaks on it.

Tony Gonzalez is less Latin than Romo is, and reps his
more.

Romo has passed for white. He's good. It happens.

behind some sketchy O-Line in attempts to redeem yourself.
2602981, As the years went by I liked him more and more
Posted by smutsboy, Tue Apr-04-17 09:58 AM
If it weren't for the injury problems and dumb narratives, he could have been a great one.

Funny the team finally built a great offense but not until the end of his career.
2602993, I laughed when he was set to replace Quincy Carter, but he was legit
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Apr-04-17 10:35 AM
Solid starter and a guy wish could have been healthier in his career because even if you wish someone ill you want them to be well to get theirs. I don't think he'll be remembered with Aikman and Stabauch but his reign as the starter was as longer or longer than those guys. He turned out to have a nice career, especially considering the modest expectations at the outset.
2603162, I forgot about that. When he was promoted I thought he was
Posted by smutsboy, Wed Apr-05-17 09:32 AM
a joke.
2602995, Reportedly replacing Phil Simms on CBS' #1 broadcast team
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Apr-04-17 10:46 AM
Weird, CBS has some decent analysts who have been at this a while and are almost certainly more deserving of that slot than a guy who has never done this before.

But at least it means no more Phil Simms, so maybe it's good?
2602999, Romo's replacing Simms like Dak replaced Romo.
Posted by Numba_33, Tue Apr-04-17 10:52 AM
2603000, unproven, but ultimately better? haha
Posted by KiloMcG, Tue Apr-04-17 10:57 AM
i guess we'll see.
2603002, If Romo can form complete sentences, he'll be an instant upgrade.
Posted by Numba_33, Tue Apr-04-17 11:00 AM
Simms was a clown.
2603004, haha i'm not gonna argue that

2603184, Anything that shakes up the NFL's on-air roster, I am for it
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Apr-05-17 11:58 AM
I think Joe Buck will probably outlive me and Aikman will continue to be the first guy whose concussions hurt OTHER people's heads.

LOL @ Aikman...
2603300, very interesting
Posted by will_5198, Wed Apr-05-17 08:38 PM
seems like either crash-and-burn or he'll be very good soon.
2603033, Good for him
Posted by rob, Tue Apr-04-17 12:04 PM
I'd like to see him give it another go, but another injury doesn't just end his career. He's worn down enough that he has to think about the effects later in life.

I also don't think he's going to be one of those guys that has a hard time stepping away. Most of the guys who came into the NFL in his situation had their careers end long ago. He had to have been mentally prepared for that even then, and I don't think that goes away.

I've never felt he was particularly engaging, but it's hard to be worse than the other QBs currently doing broadcasting.

It's also not terrible for our cap situation.
