2612476, NBA talent is one thing... but to be fair, re: ones and dones... Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Jun-09-17 11:54 AM
(and I obviously hate saying this as a Duke fan)
Only two teams in the one-and-done era have won a title while starting a one-and-done... and only two teams (both UNC teams) have had a one-and-done off the bench. The overwhelming majority don't win titles with one-and-dones.
But yeah, goes without saying that you need NBA talent. And frankly, that Villanova team did have NBA talent, just not elite talent. Plenty of the OAD era champions have lacked elite talent, but they all had a lot of players who were either NBA-bench caliber or on the cusp of NBA-caliber. That depth of talent is definitely important.
Luckily, Holtmann is a coach that can get the most out of the talent he has. So he may not need a group of all-five-stars to compete with the best talent.
