Matta made the Final Four six years ago and still had top recruiting classes in the conference as recently as three seasons ago.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have inquired earlier whether Matta might consider retiring at season's end-- they probably should have-- but I don't think Barnes is an apt comparison.
