Why did he opt out and not try to renegotiate with the team? Did he expect to get more suitors? Why would he not want to be with the team that visibly and financially supported him during his protest?

Did he expect that a new coach/regime would offload him anyway? I just always thought that the best place for him to be was in San Fran, all things considered.
