2551046, A 7 foot athlete that can shoot with hops & handles? Might be the steal...
Posted by ThaTruth, Thu Jun-23-16 08:00 PM
of the draft
2551050, Might already be 23 years old
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-23-16 08:05 PM
He was the enigma of the draft. But Bucks probably could have traded down and still gotten him.

But if you like him, it's not like there were a ton of amazing options at that point so why not reach?
2551057, as long as he isn't 33
Posted by justin_scott, Thu Jun-23-16 08:10 PM
i get the age concerns, but to me, it isn't like 23 is old (if that's his real age).
2551066, He's a bit of a project so 23 is a little concerning.
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-23-16 08:14 PM
I agree it's not a HUGE issue but people thought he was 19 so they forgave his problems. It's like having the same weaknesses as a redshirt senior as when you were a true freshman.

I don't hate the pick though. It's a reach but if that's who you want at that point in the draft, why not? Hammond's done a solid job drafting.
2551089, how'd i forget about that
Posted by justin_scott, Thu Jun-23-16 08:30 PM
i still don't think it's a major concern, but yeah, 19 and project = ok. 23 and project = maybe ok, maybe uh oh.
2551247, so he's old at 23?
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Fri Jun-24-16 12:23 AM
not sure why people viewed his potential age difference as a problem...
2551250, Not sure how it isn't an issue (if it's true.)
Posted by SoulHonky, Fri Jun-24-16 01:08 AM
1. His stock is based off playing high school kids (and even at his listed age, he was older than most of them.) Ben McLemore is 23; you don't think that, if went back to high school right now, he wouldn't look like a god prospect?

2. If someone said, Brandon Ingram wasn't 19, he was 23, wouldn't that make a huge difference since he wouldn't be filling out much anymore? If he's 23, Maker's frame isn't adding as much bulk or strength as people had hoped would happen if he was a teenager.

3. He's a guy who needs to: work on his shot, his low post game, his awareness, his hands, and his rebounding. And Lord knows where he is defensively against grown men. If you're 19, that's acceptable. If you're 23, most people would hope you'd have less to work on. How many people are saying, "But Ben McLemore is only 23! He still has time to learn what the hell to do on a basketball court!"

He's got an interesting skillset and was in a draft where 10 - 30 were fairly even. It's not a bad pick. But if he's a two to three year project, like most prep-to-pro players were, you'd hope he was turning 21 - 22 when he figured it out and wasn't already 25 - 26.

Thon is much much more of a project than Ingram's weight. I wouldn't care if Ingram was older. At 23, he would still gain weight. It's not as if you can only gain weight or strength as a 19 or 20 year old.
2551252, I wasn't comparing them talent-wise
Posted by SoulHonky, Fri Jun-24-16 01:16 AM
Obviously, Thon's much worse than Ingram. But you bulk up naturally as a 19 year old. If you're 23 year old athlete, it's hard to really make MAJOR changes to your strength.

If Ingram is 23, his body becomes an issue. At 19, you can overlook it mostly because he's going to naturally get stronger and bigger.
2551128, Jonathan Bender happened

2551261, Who is a project? All those "projects" are near All-Stars.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Fri Jun-24-16 05:55 AM

Giannis is an All-Star next year, and Jabari will hit
for 18 per game.
2551412, "steal of the draft"... lolz
Posted by dula dibiasi, Fri Jun-24-16 03:57 PM
he'd have been there 10 picks later. maybe 20. skal was higher on everyone's board and destroyed thon @ the 2015 hoop summit, and he went 28th.

this kid might end up being good, but no way was he worth the 10th pick in the draft. they overspent like a muhfucka.
2551051, At least you're not Sacramento.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jun-23-16 08:05 PM
2551278, Kidd might work wonders with him
Posted by Basaglia, Fri Jun-24-16 08:02 AM
2551113, he'll be a ROY candidate
Posted by SeV, Thu Jun-23-16 08:51 PM
Is there an Agenda on this kid yet?

I want in.

2551217, real shit
Posted by themaddfapper, Thu Jun-23-16 10:37 PM
I was doing my best to get his tape to teams. connect went ghost.
I dunno if any of that would have changed their thinking.
bucks have a great skills guy they brought in right after they got giannis.

this might could work. shrug.

kudos to the bucks for throwing the haymaker.
2551219, Thon Maker got a skill set you don't see everyday...
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Thu Jun-23-16 10:46 PM
there was no way he was falling too far down the draft...

Bucks got a steal
2551221, Also, doesn't seem like anyone loved the other options at 10.
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-23-16 10:52 PM
Besides maybe Sabonis. They all dropped in the draft. Ellenson to 18, Skal to 28, Davis to 31. Thon Maker turned out the first of many huge surprises.
2551233, I think this could be a worse draft than 2000
Posted by cantball, Thu Jun-23-16 11:18 PM
But even that said, I just would have rather leveraged the pick than grab Maker

Posted by Dr Claw, Fri Jun-24-16 05:25 AM
to watch the Cavs play with this dude and Giannis The God in the line up
2551263, Well, as annoying as a 35-47 team *can* be i suppose

2551328, Care to bet on that record?

2551342, I do not care to bet on a discrete outcome out of 83 possible
Posted by cgonz00cc, Fri Jun-24-16 12:11 PM
I will bet that they dont finish ahead of CLE, DET, or Indy

1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the Central, I lose

4th or 5th, you lose

How does that sound?
2551350, Playoffs or not seems like a better bet.
Posted by SoulHonky, Fri Jun-24-16 12:36 PM
2551358, Nothing in FAgency can affect the division at this point
Posted by cgonz00cc, Fri Jun-24-16 01:02 PM
But it could shake up the 6-7-8

And i dont much want to lose a bet if the Bucks back in with 39 wins
2551363, Apologize to Lebron
