I didn't realize he was only 50, for some reason I though he was older...if the Cowboys regress next year I could see Jerry backing up the Brinks truck...

Ohio State's Meyer: No desire to coach in the NFL - for now
2 hours ago
AP - Sports

DALLAS (AP) -- After winning his third national title, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer says he has no desire to coach in the NFL.

Well, for now.

Meyer spoke Tuesday morning at a news conference, the championship trophy at his side a few hours after leading the Buckeyes (14-1) to a 42-20 win over Oregon.

When asked if he would ever consider moving to the pros, Meyer said, ''Not right now. I've got a commitment to Ohio State and these players. I love what I'm doing. Not right now.''

Meyer has a coaching record of 142-26 in stints at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State. He won two national titles at Florida and, with the victory Monday night, becomes only the second coach to win national titles at different schools. The other is Nick Saban.

ive never seen a coach do jumping jacks in the 3rd qtr

2410616, Now it was 'health concerns', lol

Since his family excuse held no water after the quick return, so we need to rewrite history now.

he'll retire a buckeye.
2410608, Still, "not now" is an interesting choice of words.

I'm looking forward to a three-way battle of Harbaugh, Urban, and Dantonio though. Really hope he stays until we get back to respectability.

the country the speculation comes with the territory.

>he'll retire a buckeye.

He may, he may not.

He could bounce to the league and cash some desperate owners checks then come back to somewhere like Notre Dame and become the only coach to lead 3 different schools to national championships.

>he'll retire a buckeye.

this won't happen.
2410734, this was his dream job. not a stepping stone like Florida.

2410737, He'll definitely stay with y'all longer, no doubt about that.

2410738, you really think he'd jump to the NFL?
Posted by guru0509, Tue Jan-13-15 09:58 PM
more power to him if he does and succeeds

but i honestly dont see him leaving for any other program, not even Notre Dame.
2410740, He might. He also might take a sabbatical & then

re-surface at another college after a few years
2411091, Wasn't Notre Dame his "dream job"?

I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon, but do you really think Urban's going to be there the rest of his coaching career? Has he ever stayed more than six years at any one job?

Again, he should have everything he could ever need in Columbus, and we've seen some coaches who had flaky reputations turn to homebodies when they find the right fit (Nick Saban.) There doesn't seem to be any reason WHY he'd want to leave right now. But you didn't think he'd leave Florida two seasons after winning a chip there, either.

I guess with Urb, I'll believe he's staying put when I see it.
2411095, he had out payout clauses at Utah & Florida for ND, michigan and TOSU.

im no sports shrink but dude seems extremely happy.

not the worrisome control freak he was in gainesville.

i honestly dont think he coaches for more than 6-7 more years anyway

hes definitely not going to be bill snyder's age and still roaming he sidelines.

2411141, Agreed

2411157, right, if u told me he was going to coach for 20 more years

that would be a different story

2411239, He was great in the booth on TV, he'll be coaching another 5-10 tho.

2411077, I'm just failing to understand what unique insight you have
Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Jan-14-15 01:24 PM
that others lack.

there is no factual evidence to support your line of thinking.

from day 1 it's been nothing more than bitter rationalizations from a jilted fan base. Urban was never going to take a step down to go to OSU and their shitty conference...then it was about how UF would be better without Urban and how he would never achieve the same level of success at OSU...how he was running away from Saban, blah, blah, blah. We're just doubling down on stupid at this point.
2411098, "he'll never be able to recruit dat SEC speed up there...."

that was my favorite from the UF contingent

I agree, there isn't. The same can be said of your assertion of him retiring at OSU though. There's nothing in his history to suggest he's going to stay with you guys for an extended period like Woody Hayes.

I agree actually. My perspective is clouded by bitterness, no denying that. Anyone that felt he wouldn't succeed with you guys however is a complete moron. I knew from the beginning it was trouble when he took the job of coaching a team whose fanbase I despise. You guys will win at least 1 another title in the next 5 years, maybe two.

Hopefully Harbaugh intervenes
2411156, speculation is fair

It's factual that coaching in Ohio is very important to him. And that the highest level of success can be achieved at OSU. The motivation for coaching at Notre Dame (lol) would be what exactly?

Meyer jumped from BGSU to Utah to Florida as a means for advancement typical for an aspiring head coach. It's not like he's made a bunch of lateral career moves a la Saban or Harbaugh.

2411176, wtf are you talking about? lmao

>It's not like he's made a bunch of lateral career moves a la Saban or Harbaugh.

From 1983 till now, each move Saban has made was a step up until MIA->Bama

From 2002 till now each move Harbaugh has made was a step up until SF->UM

We get it, you love him. But that doesnt mean you have to make shit up.
2411197, RE: wtf are you talking about? lmao

>>It's not like he's made a bunch of lateral career moves a la

Saban: LSU --->Dolphins-->Bama

This is not bouncing around amongst lateral (or possibly regressive) moves to you? Seriously? And how the fuck is the NFL to College an upward move?

Harbaugh: Niners---->Michigan?

Talk about a regressive move.

Not to mention both coaches have bounced between the NFL and college (on the assistant and HC level) when as far as I know Meyer has never even interviewed with a NFL team and has never been a NFL assistant. Maybe deep down Meyer is infatuated with the NFL and his master plan is to bolt for the league at age 60 but there is absolutely nothing tangible, factual or in reality to suggest this other than your wishful thinking.

>We get it, you love him. But that doesnt mean you have to
>make shit up.

Make shit up? Dude, for a guy that's whiffed on shit as much as you...u really need to chill out. Your boy sfmatt is somewhere out there and needs some consoling...go find him.
2411202, go find the word "until" in a dictionary lol
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed Jan-14-15 04:00 PM
I didnt use it twice on accident
2411222, so then wtf are u talking about?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Jan-14-15 05:01 PM
do u have a point?

and I would call coaching at LSU, making a stop in the league and then finding your way back to a school at equal standing of LSU a very roundabout career trajectory and completely dissimilar to that of Urban.

Going from college to pro's (and achieving a very high level of success) and then demoting yourself to a loser college program is completely dissimilar to Urban's career movement.

so i don't know where you're getting the 'making shit up' stuff.
2411224, my point is that you totally mischaracterized their careers
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed Jan-14-15 05:07 PM
And blatantly so for the sake of a poorly thought out comparison to Urban Meyer.

They each worked their way up to an NFL HC job and then from their took major college HC jobs

That is not a bunch of lateral moves. Thats one each for guys who obviously don't care about climbing the prestige ladder anymore.

2411315, I didn't mischaracterize shit
Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Jan-14-15 09:26 PM
I laid out factual points and differences in their respective resumes.

You're just arguing for the sake of arguing at this point and the L's are racking up like Zeke's rushing yards against Oregon's charman soft defense.
2410735, I thought it was a very interesting answer too....
Posted by guru0509, Tue Jan-13-15 09:47 PM
