2 for 10 for 7 points in a conference finals game for the best player in the world? Y'all would FRY Durant for a game like that. I'm pretty sure a healthy Larry Bird never had a playoff game like that.

good that Bron could feel the foul trouble pain he causes with the way he plays

just once though

2332151, Time for some fun facts!
Posted by KosherSam, Thu May-29-14 09:40 AM
- Larry Bird only had 5 playoff games (that he started) where he shot less than 30%
- In those 5 games, he never shot 20% or lower
- Two of them came in the Eastern Conference Finals:
1) In an elimination game 6 against the Pistons, he shot 4/17 (.235) for 16 points with 14 boards and 5 assists, but the Celtics lost and were eliminated
2) In a potential clinching game 4 against the Sixers, he shot 4/15 (.267) for 14 points with 7 boards and 6 assists, and the Celtics lost before clinching in the next game
2332152, More fun facts!
Posted by KosherSam, Thu May-29-14 09:49 AM
- Lebron James has 9 career playoff games where he shot less than 30%
- In two of those games, he shot 20% or less, including last night
- Two of those games came in the conference finals, and two more came in the NBA finals
1) In game 6 of the ECF vs. detroit, he shot 3/11 (.273) for 20 points with 14 boards and 8 assists, as Cleveland won and clinched a trip to the finals
2) last night - 2/10 (.200) for 7 points with 2 boards and 4 assists, and Miami lost
3) Game 1 against the Spurs, 4/16 (.250) for 14 points with 7 boards and 4 assists in a loss
4) The infamous game 4 against Dallas: 3/11 (.273) for 8 points 9 boards 7 assists in a loss
2332203, Do you really think Bird is better than Bron?

Zero chance Bird doesn't put up 40 on Born Ready,
a man 4 inches and 50lbs smaller than him

I think overall Lebron has probably overtaken him,
or is darn close to doing it

I doubt Bird scores 10 points against Born Ready.

Lebron overtook him offensively when he played in Cleveland. It's not even close now. If Bird played Bron then there's no way Bird makes five shots.

He caught that vicious elbow to the chest by that dirtbag Chalmers (Heat is real heavy on dirtbags, you could make a Battier post like the one we made on Wade last week) and wasn't afraid to show it got him

I don't know whether Chalmers flopped or if PG really did catch him with an elbow right before that trey he dropped to end the quarter. I was hoping for the latter

member for a team with a superstar

Also like I said, the Pacers success depends on Paul
George, not on Born Ready

Born Ready has MORE than held his own despite being
laughably outmatched physically...he's literally 4 inches
shorter and and 50+ lbs lighter...and deals with it on
BOTH sides of the court.

Kobe and Shaq didn't make the finals every year they were together on some unstoppable shit. The Heat look like NBA champions every year as presently constructed. It's not even close. Remember we don't know if they'll lose an NBA finals.

The argument of "GOAT HAD A PRIME SHAQ SO THOSE RINGS DON'T COUNT. ANYONE CAN WIN WITH SHAQ" is forever deaded during and after this heat run.
2332292, you know why they look like that? because bron is that good

Everyone's moved on from the decision. Anyone could tell you the Heat would win a chip their first year.

We're talking. agenda shit right now. No one's mad but pointing out the obvious ideological inconsistency inherent in the decision of Bron's stance in league history.

Any argument that says Bird is better offensively than Bron is LAUGHABLE.

I expect Lebronon to attack that argument with the same nukes they sent to the death star after Bron's last chip.

but the soap opera of it all and fallout roster-wise has made folks forget how bad he was. As has him getting bailed out of Game 7 in 2010. Laker Game 6 '08 Finals was a white-flag performance worthy of Bron/Dallas. No need to even get into Phoenix Game 7. Or that you have to really struggle to come up with a single Kobe 'pantheon' playoff performance for the league's cannon that would make an all-time Top 25 from NBA players.

then finally he had to leave and join other established players to form a team to win a title..

if bron get his 3rd finals mvp to go with his third ring this year it's a wrap
2332274, Dope, so Duncan has 3 rings and Wade has 1.

2332307, I'm fine with that except for Bron has less rings.
Posted by Ryan M, Thu May-29-14 06:34 PM
He only has 2 to Duncan's 3 (4).

Honestly Bron has the higher ceiling, but I'd like to see if he can make the Finals in 2020 with 13 years between appearances. THAT is crazy impressive to me. Now granted, Duncan did it 2 years in...so accounting for that, let's just see if Bron can make the Finals 15 years in like Duncan in 2018. Another 4 seasons of dominance would be pretty incredible.

I dunno, lately I've found that longevity of the Spurs/Duncan fascinating.

and i wouldn't even hate on the 81 pt game
but if comparing it to say a 60 pt playoff came u can bring up the fact he was playing a bum raptor team
2332276, lolol....Kobe hate reasonable???
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Thu May-29-14 04:09 PM
>most of the kobe hate was reasonable
>everybody has bad games
>niggas hate on lebron for GOOD games
>just a couple days ago somebody on here tried to downplay a 30
>5 and 5 game
>only way that happens with kobe is if he shot 40% to get his
>points , which is fair imo

there is Kobe hate on this board right today that is not only pretty much guaranteeing that he is completely done as a player today...but hasn't really accomplished anything in his career...

Kobe/Laker Haters are very unique...
2332277, This is hilarious since Kobe's career playoff FG% is .448%
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu May-29-14 04:12 PM
And those rebound/assist numbers you posted are right around his career averages as well.

It's hilarious since you're trying to show how "reasonable" Kobe criticism is and you throw out that bullshit number like it's standard.
2332285, what does his avg. have to do with anything
Posted by southphillyman, Thu May-29-14 04:26 PM
i'm just giving a hypothetical example
since kobe is somewhere planted on a couch in germany right now
2332278, How many Lebron-based L's are you gonna catch this season?
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu May-29-14 04:14 PM
You're officially on par with Iverstania's irrational Kobe hate with your Brawn hate.

2332552, name 1 "Lebron-based L" that I have this season
Posted by ThaTruth, Fri May-30-14 02:23 PM
2332287, At least he scored in the 4th this time
Posted by LBs Finest, Thu May-29-14 04:30 PM
2332313, dawg, worry about Kobe scoring his first bucket of 2014 and/or
Posted by Bombastic, Thu May-29-14 06:49 PM
-Making a more reasonable four million per game played rather than last year's five.
-Having better luck with his upcoming fourth lame-duck coach since Feel
-Spending his fourth straight season out of the playoffs by the end of his deal in 2016.
-Steve Nash's fortieth birthday party
-Dr Buss' fourth child being able to finally show signs that he has any idea how to run an NBA franchise.
2332321, I know you're clowning and having fun and all...
Posted by Ryan M, Thu May-29-14 07:31 PM

>-Dr Buss' fourth child being able to finally show signs that
>he has any idea how to run an NBA franchise.

But honestly, the D'Antoni thing was the only truly terrible moment of Jimmy Buss' career. Not saying he can do it, just saying he hasn't been proven to be an idiot YET.
2332395, um......Mike Brown, Pringles, losing Howard for nothing, paying Kobe
Posted by Bombastic, Thu May-29-14 10:11 PM
that deal he wasn't worth healthy by that point before even seeing him walk post-Achilles, no playoff wins since he took full reigns, personal issues with Feel/Jeanie affecting team success, general feelings of instability due to him really having accomplished nothing in his life nor having much if any respect around the league.

I don't know how based on the state of the roster, Jim's lack of accomplishment, the family not having the deep pockets of at least half of the owners owners, this horrible roster, no pick next year, no coach, no young talent besides who they might grab at 7, K.O.B.E., Nash, the Clippers shedding their decrepit dickhead owner while still having a contender window open with a great coach plus Microsoft loot........that the Lakers couldn't be bad for an extended stretch here like the Celtics in the 90s or the Niners post-Eddie DeBartolo.

That tradition stuff speaks volumes for bragging rights but it ain't something that's gonna actually make for success on its own, nor is being in Los Angeles since there's a better team being run right in the same building & city where a laughingstock eyesore once sat.
2332400, Yeah, this is a lot of hindsight tho.
Posted by Ryan M, Thu May-29-14 10:20 PM
Brown wasn't the worst hire, D'Antoni was. Kobe was getting that deal no matter what. He traded for Cp3 and Howard. Nash's signing is only bad in hindsight. Nobody thought it was bad at the time as the Lakers were thought to be building a title team.

He hasn't had a long enough track record to judge is all I'm saying.
2332570, Deep pockets are great if you aren't making any revenue
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri May-30-14 03:43 PM
The Lakers, particularly due to the huge TWC TV deal, even made a profit of over 50 million last year with all of the luxury tax considerations and a first round playoff exit. That revenue increases significantly for each extra playoff series to the point where investing more into players pays for itself if the results mean deeper playoff runs. I've seen some of the financials because a good friend of mine just did a ticket pricing consultation for the CFO...they are extremely healthy.

Also, the Pringles decision came down from Dr. Buss, it wasn't Jim's decision...the Mike Brown hiring, however, is completely on him and it looks especially bad when Adelman was ready to take the job and was the perfect system fit. Further, Dr. Buss was in a similar situation with an aging, injured player in his twilight years...and he offered Shaq a 5 year, 120 million dollar deal so the Kobe deal isn't something uniquely indicative of Jim Buss. Lastly, FOH w the hindsight on the Nash deal....you were one of the many touting that roster, with Mike Brown as coach no less, as being the favorites to win the championship. I know you're gonna do your normal 'I under-estimated Kobe's dick-headedness, etc etc etc" but don't act like 99% of people, including you, didn't think those roster moves were brilliant at the time.
2332290, smh

2332462, just did a quick look at the player salaries list
Posted by bentagain, Fri May-30-14 08:40 AM
http://espn.go.com/nba/salaries

kinda crazy that only KD, and the MIA Big 3 are in the top 20

everybody else = at home watching the offs

I guess chip caliber teams = no max players?
2332465, Hibbert has a max contract as does PG...i think PG's doesn't
Posted by Cenario, Fri May-30-14 08:59 AM
kick in till next year tho but i could be wrong.

edit: Russy has a max deal too...but not the supermax with 30% increases like kd's deal.
2332489, and only 10 of the top 40 got a ring
Posted by Lach, Fri May-30-14 10:32 AM
It's nuts how many teams have overpaid some players. Bad GMs would make me want to team up with other stars at better franchises too.
2332499, I wonder if anybody ever did a correlation between Max players
Posted by bentagain, Fri May-30-14 10:49 AM
and chips

I'm sure some stat geek has, but it doesn't seem conducive to rings

@Cen, do you think that was what Feel was saying when he alluded to Melo staying for a discounted salary

that he knows paying Melo the max means they aren't gonna win?
2332503, yeah well melo's max is a ridic 25-26 million a year
Posted by Cenario, Fri May-30-14 11:00 AM
his current deal is hard enough to build around.

I don't think feel is even gonna offer that megamax deal. And if melo serious about winning, he wouldn't want it. No one else can offer it anyway.
2332505, the problem with the analysis is the salary structure and cap changes
Posted by rob, Fri May-30-14 11:28 AM
have come so quickly in the nba that the good gms are the ones who figure it before most players come up for max contracts. and old max contract players don't quite fit in the cap mold. and there are different kinds of "max" players. the rules keep changing.

2332506, and what? sometimes you just got to let a dude walk or trade
Posted by Cenario, Fri May-30-14 11:39 AM
him before he walks and start over. If the knicks had any inkling that melo wasn't gonna settle for less, they needed to trade him before the deadline. dolan wasn't doing that tho obviously.
2332529, eh i wasn't replying about melo, just at the end of the thread
Posted by rob, Fri May-30-14 12:30 PM
about analyzing teams for winning with max players. kobe has a max contract. russy has a max contract for almost half of it. the league is operating with overlapping salary eras, and the good gms have to be on top of those salary shifts.

now gms are figuring out how to operate with this rising cap, and you know there are going to be people who gamble and end up looking real good, and some gm who gambles a year too late, then the owners lock down expenses and destroy his cap flexibility.
2332533, oh got you..yeah, i agree.

2332524, I like how Bron haters act like he's never been criticized
Posted by pretentious username, Fri May-30-14 12:20 PM
Everyone roasted him after 2011. He was the most scrutinized athlete in the World. Sure, KD gets it worse now. He should. 2 rings mean people stop talking about past failures as much and tend to give you the benefit of the doubt until you get knocked out. They're still up and heading home for Game 6, that's why this isn't a big deal.
2332526, and the fact that he's been ballin for the past 3 years.
Posted by Cenario, Fri May-30-14 12:23 PM
