2211411, Could the Zimmerman case hurt recruiting in Florida
Posted by VonClay, Sat Jul-20-13 11:48 PM
serious question.

I'm mainly referring to out of state recruiting and Black athletes.

I ask this after my DAWGS were able to snag a 5 star recruit who seemed to favor UF up until last week. Not saying this was the reason he dropped UF but it made me think. If my son is being recruited by a Florida school and I live elsewhere it is something I would have to consider at this point.

Thoughts?

2211412, Didn't you watch Obama's speech on Friday?

He explicitly said that while this tragedy should prod us
into a deeper racial "soul searching," the 5* pipeline for
UF and FSU must be preserved at all costs. He then went
into a tangent about how the new Wall St. financial reforms
might affect blue-chip NYC AAU ball.

2211533, I just hope to hear that "Driver's Ed" Richt tries to use it in recruiting

2211425, Better ?: will other schools use it as negative recruiting fodder?
Posted by calminvasion, Sun Jul-21-13 02:20 AM
Absolutely. I don't think it will have any effect though
2211426, I could definitely see that happened

Getting a full ride to play at UF,FSU,UM, is a huge opportunity and recruits wont let one tragic incident sway them

2211433, Parents Might

Thing is though, this tragic incident can hit home with a lot of parents. ANY ONE of those kids coming in that can happen to, and they are A LOT BIGGER (in most cases) than Trayvon Martin. So they'll automatically be perceived as a threat way faster, so who knows what can happen to them on a night on the town in FL

Not saying it would happen, but I think this tragedy has parents thinking that at least. Let an aggressive recruiter start planting seeds and if a kid has options, it might be enough to change their mind
2211434, lets be real though..that incident could have happened anywhere

we like to clown Florida (and deservedly so for the Stand Your Ground Laws) but there are pistol packing wanna be cop/vigilante shitheads in various states "throughout this great nation of ours" (something I hear at least 25x in every NRA speech)

2211431, lol. Will Shelby County v. Holder stop Bama recruiting? No.

How many of these states have strong college football schools? How many states without Stand Your Ground laws have strong college football schools? I don't watch NCAA football, so I genuinely have no clue.
2211444, On an overall level no. But for an individual recruit it's
Posted by soulfunk, Sun Jul-21-13 11:06 AM
possible...if you follow some of these recruits you know their choice comes down to a couple schools and the slightest thing can be what makes them choose one over the other. Whether it's a rumor about a coach leaving, their connection with a professor they met while on a recruiting trip, a cousin that used to go to that school, looking at the future schedule and seeing that they'll be playing a game in a certain city, it could be anything.

But on a large scale level, there will still be plenty of top level guys that want to go to those schools. Especially considering that so much of their recruiting base is already in state.
