2202715, Descent into Hell: 2013 Sixers Off-season Post
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-27-13 07:36 PM
This team is now as big of a laughingstock as the Bobcats.

This trade will rank up there with the Barkley trade
as one of the worst of all time.

Hinkie is a retard. How in the hell do you trade your
best player and keep Evan Turner???

This team is fucked for the next decade at least. I'm
seriously considering bailing on this team. This has got
to be one of the worst trades ever already. Fuck this team.

2202768, right? dude is 17/8/4 on 43 percent shooting
Posted by bshelly, Thu Jun-27-13 08:01 PM
it's not like we gave up a guy who's the first or even the 2nd best player on a title team.
2203207, Noel will sell more tix than Jrue
Posted by bentagain, Fri Jun-28-13 10:02 AM
Jrue was looking more Iggy than franchise player

we get MCW at PG and a 1st next year

package that pick with our 1st next year, and we could be in the Wiggins sweepstakes

>>> Jeff Hornacek
2202729, Does anyone want Evan Turner?
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-27-13 07:41 PM
I'm sure he's been offered around.

I think Hinkie's tanking for 2014. Having Noel and two lotto picks in 2014 will be very nice.
2202734, of course not

2202744, They swapped 2014 1st's. So NO gets the top pick
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-27-13 07:46 PM
2202757, OK so Woj effed up...they swap a 2nd for a 1st
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-27-13 07:52 PM
and keep their own 1st

That makes much more sense.

I'll take back my statement of one of the dumbest trades of all time.

Still not sold on this. It has potential to work out though.
2202774, LOL, this is a GREAT trade, we got Noel & a likely lotto '14 pick
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jun-27-13 08:02 PM
so basically the consensus #1 for most of the year & probably a lottery pick (I'm sure N.O. protected Top 3 but they'll be somewhere mid-lotto) for Jrue & a second-rounder?

Where do I sign?!?!

Only issue is we didn't think Portland would take McCollum with Lillard already in tow so we land another Cuse chump.
2202780, I went from hating the trade to liking it a lot in bout 2 minutes
Posted by ChuckNeal, Thu Jun-27-13 08:04 PM
2202840, If we hit next yr in with the lotto picks it will have been worth it
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-27-13 08:20 PM
If we pull Wiggins from it and another stud we'll be good. Hopefully we can flip Evan with whatever inflated numbers he'll be putting up and have a nice young lineup to build on. It'll be the best draft since 03, so there is plenty of potential. And contrary to your beliefs, I think MCW will work out well, especially if he gets paired with good picks next year.
2202858, it's worth it on paper, right now.
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jun-27-13 08:28 PM
I don't even wanna get into the MCW part, if that could have been McCollum I woulda drove home hanging my ass out the driver side window talkin' shit.
2202737, Wait so now the Sixers are getting the 2014 pick
Posted by zigbfree, Thu Jun-27-13 07:44 PM
May not be that bad of a trade. Still don't like it
2202759, Too early to shit on it.....
Posted by ChuckNeal, Thu Jun-27-13 07:53 PM
They're gonna suck next year so we have a legit shot at Wiggins. Plus, Nerlens could turn into something (although I'm not that high on him). Either way, the NBA is a superstars league. No sense in continuing to be a middle of the back squad that we've been since 04. I'd rather get real shitty, especially during 2014 which could end up being one of the best draft classes since 03.
2202747, Obviously I'm a big fan of MCW but it's still an awful trade
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-27-13 07:46 PM
2202749, MCW is the worst part about it, they musta thought Portland
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jun-27-13 07:48 PM
wouldn't take McCollum
2202821, MCW was ranked highly by the analytics
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jun-27-13 08:15 PM
Makes sense that Hinkie wanted him.
2202842, they haven't come up with a 'Syracuse' analytic regression formula yet
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jun-27-13 08:23 PM
which is one of the main reasons why pre-draft analytics can't be fully trusted as gospel yet.
2202748, the bad part is gettiing a Syracuse player at 11
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jun-27-13 07:47 PM
Noel for Jrue could work out.

MCW will be fine. The Sixers will lack scoring power something serious but that will work to their advantage this year. MCW is going to work out well for them, especially if they hit in the lotto next yr
2202825, he'll help us tank & then hopefully will still be tradeable next year
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jun-27-13 08:18 PM
that's about all I can hope for with that dude.
2202834, Were any of these picks even born the last time a Hoya guard was drafted?
Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-27-13 08:19 PM
2202855, Hoya guard we drafted worked out OK, better than any Cuse player ever

1) get the highest upside player and consensus number 1 in the 2013 draft? check.

2) get an extra pick in a far more loaded 2014 draft? check.

3) eschew another year in no man's land and initiate operation #wankforwiggins? check.

ALL HAIL OUR EXCEL OVERLORD.
2202776, I'm wit it

2202783, It's a good move, next years draft is loaded
Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-27-13 08:04 PM
Noel and MCW won't do much this year....which is good. They'll have a high pick next year in a strong draft, plus NO's pick.

And Noel and MCW both have a lot of potential.

Rather than staying stuck in the middle of the pack, it's a good risk to take.

Jrue is good, but you can't even say Barkley's name there.
2202813, Yeah it was first reported as Jrue and a 1 for Noel
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-27-13 08:12 PM

>
>Jrue is good, but you can't even say Barkley's name there.

It makes sense now that its Noel and a 1 for Jrue. I can be at peace with that. MCW taking his spot helps. 2014 will follow 84, 96, and 03 as the next great draft so if we hit there it will be worth it.
2202929, ice i need a bigger mai copa than that... u went hard with the retard
Posted by imo, Thu Jun-27-13 09:07 PM
& WIP and 97.5 will have to do a complete reversal tmrw.
2202967, I was going off the original erroneus report that was Jrue & a 1st
Posted by icecold21, Thu Jun-27-13 09:36 PM
straight up for Noel. In which case I would have been right on what I said.

The trade as is makes sense, banking on a great draft and FA class with some young pieces to build with. Still taking a big risk, but not crazy like it would have been otherwise.
2202784, lmao, incredible

For the best asset we had? We BETTER be terrible next season. The pelicans won't be. Watch us fuck around and be stuck with the 7th and 12th pick next season.

I can ignore that season ticket letter now though. Lol
2202816, The Pelicans ain't gonna be good by any stretch, I'll take their pick
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jun-27-13 08:13 PM
for next year which will be in the lottery plus the guy who was gonna be consensus #1 in this one.

Again, the only real issue was they announced it too early, Portland took McCollum & we got another Orange BadDreamsicle.
2202866, They'll be good

the Cavs or Bobcats.

That pick is gonna be 11.

Holiday, Gordon (if healthy) , AD, Ryan Anderson is a solid foundation.
2203794, It's gonna be a lotto pick plus we got Nerlens & will let him heal slow
Posted by Bombastic, Sun Jun-30-13 08:40 AM

>Holiday, Gordon (if healthy) , AD, Ryan Anderson is a solid

Not really. That's a squad not playing in the postseason.
2203030, He was the consensus until that knee went.

He wasn't the #1 pick because @ 19 he has an acl and plate growth something in his medical history. This is the biggest deal since the last time we traded for a 7fter with knee drama. As for next year's hopes and wishes. That's all it is. We could blow up the roster and end up with the 4th and 11th pick next year. No wiggins or parker. Then what?

BTW...I think McCollum vs Carter Williams is a wash.

The positive is I can save my cash and wait for the master plan to be activated in 2016? 17?

the plate stuff was already discounted & had nothing to do with the knee.

Unless you're Derrick Rose, ACL's are become more & more common to return from.

This is the biggest
>deal since the last time we traded for a 7fter with knee
>drama.
AB was just drama, period, his injury history was way longer & his attitude was always shitty.

once he had a setback, he mailed it in because he never wanted to be here in the first place anyway.

Nerlens isn't a lazy baby, nor are we paying him 16 million dollars.

We're taking the guy with the most upside, plus another lotto pick, for our solid PG on a good contract who would be do a bigger one by the time we got good.

I'd rather bottom out now that the Bynum thing busted.

As for next year's hopes and wishes. That's all it is.
>We could blow up the roster and end up with the 4th and 11th

Then we still will suck, still have nobody committed to any real money & still have flexibility to do other things while maybe getting another pick again next year.

One went to Syracuse & is historically considered athletic but inconsistent.

I hope to be wrong but on its face gimme CJ all day.

If they get good young players, they become fun to watch for me even if they're not good. I loved every year of the early Iverson era including the first two because we were watching something develop.

I remember watching Stack & AI & Tim Thomas beat the Lakers in '97 at home and feeling like we won a damn championship because it'd been so long (seven, eight years) since we even had *anything* to look foward to.

Two of those three guys wouldn't really end up being part of the rising up process but it still felt cool figuring it out.

I won't miss really anybody on this team really that much, I still don't even miss Iggy, I would have loved to keep Jrue rather than Duck Sauce but unfortunately Jrue is our only piece of any value.
2203591, agreed on all points....
Posted by gmltheone, Sat Jun-29-13 10:17 AM
Didn't realize but that trade freed up cap money going forward. Traded jrue on his old deal and got a pick back.

There was something local about a Thad to the kings trade. I didn't think they'd blow it up. Mucho cajones.

But great or be terrible. And you're right we have cap space and picks. And a gm who can wheel and deal. I'm interested, but I'm holding on to my season ticket money for a bit.

Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-27-13 11:20 PM
He's got no offensive game beyond finishing around the rim off put backs or when set up. Probably would've gotten double figures just off size and athletic ability if he went to college....like Nerlens did. Who knows though.

Point one...comparing college stats to pro stats doesn't really work.

Point two...Noel doesn't have much offensive game at this point, but he's young and athletic and gifted, so maybe he'll get there.

he's got more than Chandler right now, that's not saying anything but that's my only point. I've seen him finish with his left hand more in 10 games at UK than Chandler in a decade.
2203088, I think he should end up a better offensive player
Posted by DJR, Thu Jun-27-13 11:34 PM
I don't think he'll have the physical strength or experience to get himself in position to score 10-12 a game like Chandler for a bit though, but yeah I'd agree he's got more offensive potential.

Philly is going to have a tough time putting points up next year. I hope that fanbase will realize what's going on and be patient.

the Sixers are like an invisible entity right now, they really have become such a futile & faceless organization to the general public in Philly that nothing that happens will get anyone too upset.

So it'll be fine for the tank part of the plan, the problem will be who is going to be the face of this thing for the rebound part?

Report: 76ers to hire Brown as head coach

The Philadelphia 76ers will hire San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown as their new head coach, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

The 76ers have not confirmed the report.

Brown has worked as a Spurs assistant under Gregg Popovich for seven years. He had been the Spurs player development coach prior to that.

Before joining the Spurs, Brown was a head coach for nine years in the Australasia National Basketball League. Brown was the head coach of the Australian national team and led the Aussies to a seventh-place finish in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
2203092, Why the fuckkk did we trade Ricky Ledo?
Posted by new jarooz ryan, Thu Jun-27-13 11:43 PM
Was that really necessary. Kid has ridiculous upside for a second round pick. Hinkie was feeling himself a little too much there.

2203150, trade works for both parties imo

and now i don't have a reason to torture myself watching even a second of them playing next yr
jrue gets to leave a shit franchise that had no direction the last few yrs and whose new direction is tank and hope the lotto balls fall the right way
for a team with cap space and at least some since of direction right now
davis, rivers, and ewok will be better wit jrue and now grevis can be a potential trade chip with his attractive salary
the sixers get to spin trading a 23 yr old AS for 3 lotto picks to the 5000 ppl who will be in the arena next yr as they continue their perpetual rebuilding process and hold the crown as the most hated/ignored franchise in the city for the next 5 yrs most likely
they should let MCW learn on the job next year under the tutelage of evan turner and stash theo ratliff jr for a yr while he heals his 200lb frame
there's a small haitian thug community in the franklinville section of the city for his entourage to hang with
should be interesting

Posted by imo, Sun Jun-30-13 07:53 AM
Is he now or will he ever be a top 5 player in the entire league? Winning a chip with a motley crew is very rare. Teams where 5 people need to score to win is really a team with a bunch of inconsistent scorers.

Also, why look at Jrue in the bubble of the Sixers? Shouldn't he be judged vs the league? Where he is at best 3rd tier.

He is not even a natural point guard. He makes very poor decisions and sucks in the pick and roll. You can tell he spent most of his developmental time at the 2.
2203211, OK, so Sixers DID NOT hire a new head coach (swipe)

Maybe its a good thing. Like I said previously, this guy wasn't even the lead assistant on Pop's staff, not that his staff wouldn't be good, but either way we'll have to wait a little longer and see.

http://www.csnphilly.com//basketball-philadelphia-sixers/sam-hinkie-denies-sixers-set-hire-brett-brown

Is the Sixers’ long search for a new head coach finished?

No, says new general manager Sam Hinkie.

According to a report in the New York Daily News, the Sixers are set to name Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown as the new head man.

“Not true,” Hinkie said.

Brown spent the last seven seasons as an assistant under Gregg Popovich. Before that, Brown was a player development coach for five years with the Spurs. He has also been linked to the head coaching opening with Boston.

As far as Brown’s imminent hiring in Philadelphia, though, Hinkie says it’s not close to happening.

“There was nothing of that substance that happened tonight,” Hinkie said. “There were a lot of things going on and that was not something that happened in the past few hours.”

Instead, after the draft Hinkie was busy putting together the Sixers’ summer league team, which will be coached by Michael Curry, Aaron McKie and Jeff Capel, holdovers from Doug Collins’ staff.

“We’ll turn the page quite soon,” Hinkie said.

I have been saying they should scrap everything and start from zero for a long time. They are doing it now.

I am disappointed Jrue is gone, he was coming into his own and he was a guy that I liked from day one. That said, they got good return for him and a clear direction for the team. Now we've got two lottos this year, likely two more next year and everybody is on the same page age-wise.

The question here is obviously Noel's knees and MCW's development, but there is some upside to go with the doubts. Because of the potential pitfalls, these guys did slip a bit. If MCW were more consistent, he'd have been top 5, not No. 11. Had Noel's knee been fine, he'd likely have gone No. 1.

So I am just going to let this simmer. No need to have a doom and gloom reaction, but also no grounds to assume literally anything will work out here.

Like I said, this is a 100% fresh start. New coach, new GM, new ownership, new core, new direction. I have a small medallion of excitement with a heaping side of dread

That's the motto for this year as we give the young rooks a while to develop, as for that hashtag... maybe we should also consider adding #Pause to it as well :\
