2196764, *Calls Meeting of the High Council of Kobestan*
Posted by LBs Finest, Tue Jun-18-13 03:52 AM
Knights of Kobestan...

Our Ruler, King Bryant, Lord of the Rings, Warden of the West, Demon of the Black Mambas, is at a remote location, safe and well, recovering from his battle wounds. I received his raven this morning. He has sent word to inform me that House Duncan is on the verge of defeating LeBronon, and we must now prepare for battle. There were whispers the victor would eventually launch an assault on Kobestan. That day is on the horizon. War Is Coming.

Lord Timothy took the capitol of Castle Brawn on the Seventh Day of Battle. The War is not yet over, though we hear it is looking rather bleak for House James, which means Lord Timothy could soon acquire his Fifth Ring, matching our own King.

Lord Bryant has also informed me that Ser Bombastic, LeBronon's Commander of the Kingsguard, has joined forces with Lord Timothy. He and his men abandoned King James and his Hand, Ser Maxxximus, once they realized the Fall of LeBronon was inevitable. Men without Honor they have become.

As is custom, once the war has ended, the triumphant nation shall celebrate their victory back home for Fourty Days and Fourty Nights, ending with a Great Feast. Should House Duncan prevail, the Great Feast shall be held at Popovich Palace. Their troops shall then set sail across Ringless Bay, around the abandoned ruins of Iverstania, the Island homeland of Ser Bombastic and Ser Guinness. They shall arrive at our shores in Sixty Days.

We know of their tactics thanks to Ser Horry, our eyes inside Popovich Palace. His loyalty to Lord Bryant supersedes his loyalty to House Duncan, unbeknownst to them. Ser Ryan and Ser Warren, you two shall take a small group of men and sail to the San An Islands in fortnight's time to meet with Ser Horry so he may advise you on the army's true power and strategy. As of now we do not believe they have enough forces to take the Kingdom of Kobestan.

Alas, as for King James, his reign will have been short-lived. The Head-Banded Highborn, originally from the Far Vale of Akron, is on the brink of falling to 1-3 in the Finals, which would cripple not only his legacy, but the will and faith of his people as well. LeBronon's victory in the War with Durantsylvania last year was legendary, but the Crown was not conquered without sacrifice, as they lost an ally to the North when the Jordanians ended their allegiance to LeBronon, angered by The True Witnesses proclamation of their beloved King's power greater than all Throne Bearers before him, greater even than The Old King, The Yellow Eyed Bull, His Royal Airness.

Sending our King a response by raven would not be safe at this point. Therefore Ser Essence, Ser Legacy, you two shall travel by horseback to see The King. The rest of our Lieutenants shall remain here with me.

This situation is fluid. Things may very well change before we speak again. We must be prepared for any outcome.

Safe travels to all on your journeys. We shall reconvene soon.

I'm really not threatened by House of Timothy

It's definitely two schools

Watched the game with one of my boys from back in LA, he's die hard against the Spurs while his pops would prefer the Spurs to take it, both are Lakers fans. It's an age thing a little I think cause the Spurs have been around so long and represent ye olde gayme of basquettebaul. He also admitted to liking Wade and Bron so I may have to disown his ass altogether.
2196784, like I said in the previous post... the Lakers derailed the
Posted by LegacyNS, Tue Jun-18-13 08:23 AM
impending Spurs dynasty by having a 3 peat and 4 finals appearances in a 5 year span after the Spurs won in 1999. Plus, we smashed them 4-1 in 2008 WCFs so....

We basically had 2 runs where they couldn't touch us in the last decade.. Plus, I actually like Tim Duncan..

2196830, Timmay might not be as dominant as he once was, but
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Tue Jun-18-13 09:42 AM
Spurs have ZERO shot at winning the championship (provided if it really does happen) without his stellar play. Please do tell where the Spurs would be this year and in this series without him? Who's picking up those extra rebounds? Who's defending the paint? Who's scoring in the paint? It's alright that Timmay's taking a backseat to the more dominant Top 5 Tony. That's something Kobe has far more experience with in his championship runs. Holla at me when Kobe takes a team not stacked with multiple elite all-stars to a championship run - let alone past the first round of the playoffs. Oh, that's right. Duncan's been there done that while Kobe has never proved he can do that. Nope sorry, Duncan better. Cry about it.
2196837, LOL @ this type of bullshit OKS response. Grow up.
Posted by T Reynolds, Tue Jun-18-13 10:00 AM
2196889, LOL nigga said multiple elite all stars
Posted by LBs Finest, Tue Jun-18-13 11:33 AM
I love the overrating of Kobe's championship casts. Not one ring was won with "multiple elite all stars"...he had Shaq for the 3peat teams, the rest was pretty much dead weight, then for his 4th ring he had Pau and that's basically it, Bynum missed like 40% of the year and was basically a non factor in the playoffs, hobbling around on one leg on limited minutes. Unless he's suggesting Lamar was the second all star, but that would be pretty stupid considering in his 14 year career Lamar has never been an all star, not once, probably because as talented as he was his only consistent one season, and that was when he won 6th man of the year.

The 5th ring wasn't much different, Artest wasn't sniffing the all star game, and Bynum was our 6th leading scorer in the playoffs.

I remember immediately after Kobe first won without Shaq, everyone was calling it one of the worst championship teams in recent memory...and they were probably right. Kobe basically carried physically and mentally soft teams to back to back titles.

hmmm...maybe I should give Phil a bit more credit, those teams really weren't that good.

In other words, no qualifiers necessary.

Duncan wins fairly obviously there.

in and one of those was a by default MVP because he played like ass. This year he would be tied for 3rd best player on the team at best with Kawhi in this one if they win. He'd be "Derek Horry". But keep pushin.
2196965, he was the best player on his team all 4 so far, T5T would be this year
Posted by Bombastic, Tue Jun-18-13 01:04 PM
but check the numbers for '07, that's still Timmy throughout the playoffs it's just with that overmatched Cavs team they exploited Snow-on-Parker.

Kawhi has done what I didn't think was possible for most of this series and that's defend Lebron out on the perimeter consistently well.

Derek Duncan. Tim Horry of the 2013 Finals.

That said, I don't see them winning tonight or the series.

tim was clearly SA's best player in '07 for the entire regular season and the first 3 playoff rds

they exploited the parker / snow matchup in the finals (as they should have) but duncan was their indisputable alpha. seriously, go check the numbers. it's not even debatable.

Got injured before the post-season and the Spurs lost in the opening round to a much inferior Suns team. Had Timmay been healthy, there's a good chance those Spurs make a run at back-to-back titles.

2197051, LMAO. You know damn well Ewing wasn't going to make
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Tue Jun-18-13 03:44 PM
THAT much of a difference that series. You're talking about maybe a difference of the series being 4-1 to maybe, 4-2 or 4-3 in the Spurs favor. Ewing would have no answer for Duncan/D-Rob.

And double LOL at thinking the Knicks losing Ewing in '99 was remotely as significant as the Spurs losing Duncan in 2000. There was VAST difference in quality between those two players at that respective time in their career.
2197055, LOL, he's just mad that they reached the same round with Ewing hurt

as they did any year with Ewing or anytime in Knick history over the past 40 years.
2197110, The Spurs weren't beating the Lakers in 2000, c'mon
Posted by DJR, Tue Jun-18-13 05:53 PM

but, no, you're right. it was totally a one-man show. the guy who was averaging 35+ a night in the finals and dominating like no other? he didn't carry anyone, no, kobe "grinding it out" on the foul line was so much more important!

If Bron pulls this one out he could be apart of another 3 in 4/5 year type run with another group. The window for the Heat is still open but I think it's beyond the point where they're a given going into next year.

2196954, he doesn't need Kobe's ring count, he's got 4 MVPs already
Posted by Bombastic, Tue Jun-18-13 12:56 PM
and is better than Kobe ever was.
2196967, wrong, he's more physically gifted than Kobe but nowhere near as skilled
Posted by LBs Finest, Tue Jun-18-13 01:06 PM
And he's on pace to stink up the joint on the grandest stage 3 out of 4 times. His career numbers in the Finals are as unimpressive as it gets for a player of his caliber.
2196978, he's BETTER, not winning here hurting his legacy is about MJ not Kobe
Posted by Bombastic, Tue Jun-18-13 01:20 PM
Kobe ain't even really a concern when it's all said & done, Bron's got 4 times as many MVPs as Kobe's whole career by the age of 28, is a better defender than Kobe ever has been plus able to cover from 1 to 5 at a level no player in NBA history has so far & just an overall better all-around player than Kobe Bryant.

Kobe's got a better long-range jumpshot, that's about it.

Court vision isn't even in the same galaxy, rebounding the same, Lebron scores more efficiently & Lebron makes his teammates better and carries wack teams at a level Kobe could never.

You might as well root for Lebron to win this series because Kobe's resume is pretty much set, this one puts Duncan ahead of him for sure even though to me he's already there.

Bron's passing of Kobe isn't even really worth worrying your pretty peanutted little heads about.

That's inevitable.
2197000, I think at the end of the day we're all underwhelmed with all that
Posted by T Reynolds, Tue Jun-18-13 01:54 PM
Kobe is safe in the history books and all that shit you just typed is all well and good from a hater's perspective, but Bron's reel will consist of thousands of open court tomahawk dunks interspersed with nervous, shifty eyes in important game deciding moments. oh and passing. lots of passing.

2197032, u started with 'at the end of the day' & somehow got emptier from there

2197040, he needs to win more rings, dogg...
Posted by dula dibiasi, Tue Jun-18-13 03:28 PM
it's really as simple as that. no use dancing around the point.

i mean, he certainly can't retire with one. lolz. not that i think he will, mind you, but if he does the ppl who rank him a notch below jordan, magic and bean will always have some degree of validity to that argument.

he'll need something in the 3-5 range to stop all that chatter for good.
2197044, can we give him some honorary Regular Season Champ rings?
Posted by T Reynolds, Tue Jun-18-13 03:36 PM
I mean his stats are REALLY impressive

that might pad up the total to where we can include him in the convo

2197053, oh I know that, he's got plenty of time tho. If he's at 3 or 4 he's fine tho.
Posted by Bombastic, Tue Jun-18-13 03:49 PM
I'm genuinely not worried about Lebron retiring being widely acknowledged as better than Kobe.

I'd bet a year's salary on that shit.
2197778, if he retires with 3 rings youre a lunatic for saying hes better than Kobe
Posted by HecticHavoc, Wed Jun-19-13 02:01 AM
2197903, why? Kobe's been the best player on 2 title teams in 17 years
Posted by Bombastic, Wed Jun-19-13 10:07 AM
I believe Lebron wins more than 3 titles if he starts his career with 9 years with Prime Shaq.

I also believe Michael Jordan wins the same zero titles in his first 7 years with Lebron's teams in Cleveland, let alone Kobe Bryant.

So why would I base my entire assessment of their careers on that meathead logic of counting their rings without context?

I mean Lebron's gonna likely win more than three, if he wins Thursday he'll already be one ring away from that mark at 28.

But I'm going to actually use all of his accomplishments to build the case.

Kobe won't even be a debate by the time that's over so no sense in hypothetically discussing it.

2196959, This potential ring for Duncan is not equal to Kobe's rings with Shaq.
Posted by LBs Finest, Tue Jun-18-13 12:59 PM
Elmo is like the 4th option. The attempts to minimize Kobe's first 3 rings just because he wasn't the best player on the team has always been funny to me since prime Shaq is arguably the most physically dominant player to ever step on the court, and every coach on the planet would have run the offense through him. who wouldn't have been 2nd option to that version of Shaq? and even still, Kobe was so good that half the nights it was 1 and 1A, not 1 and 2.

Kobe was so good in the 01 playoffs that Shaq called him his idol and the best in the league and Phil said Kobe had the best all around court game of anyone he's EVER coached. He wasn't just some typical championship sidekick.
2196983, 4th option, yet he continues to lead the team in rebounds &
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Tue Jun-18-13 01:26 PM
blocks and is the Spurs one and only competent big. He goes down and the Spurs get exposed horribly. I don't think I've heard a single person claim Duncan is the sole leader or alpha dog on this current Spurs team. However, he more than held his own when Parker was out this year and was the team's 2nd leading scorer. He's consistently been the 2nd option on offense throughout the post-season sans this final series.

The fact that you and other 'Kobestan's' think Duncan needs this title to somehow prove his legacy > Kobe's is laughable. He's 37 and 16 years deep into his career. Everything he does from here on out is simply icing on the cake.
2196986, Right, it's actually better. He is their anchor on D+irreplaceable
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Jun-18-13 01:34 PM
You'd be hard pressed to find a better big right now than Duncan, even at 37. You could find maybe five guys capable of doing what he's doing now and even they wouldn't be locks for various reasons.

Conversely, those three Lakers titles, they would have done just as well with a shooter that let the game come to him or another volume scorer. Just about any above average two guard could have hit the foul shots and supplemented Shaq in other ways.

Kobe was a more difficult player to replace in the second run, but I'd still argue he was at most as difficult to replace as Duncan RIGHT TODAY. As for Duncan's role, calling him "the fourth option" is laughable. They still run a lot through him. He is the second option after Parker at this point. Are you going to get gassed off one good game from Ginobili? Pretend like they run a ton of plays for Leonard? That one hot series from Green makes him a top option for them now?

You're reaching. This is lose/lose for Kobestan, and you're having trouble coming to grips with the fact that the two best players in the past 25 years not named Shaq or Jordan are playing one another for a title right now while your boy is totally irrelevant.
2196990, What player wouldn't be a second option to Shaq in his prime?
Posted by Kira, Tue Jun-18-13 01:39 PM
Jordan by then would be a third option.
AI?
D. Rose?
KD?
DWade?

a) duncan's their 2nd scoring option. why lie abt something that we've all seen w/ our own eyes + that anyone can easily google? lolz.

b) so what if he was their 4th option? why do ppl obsess so much abt what scoring option a guy is? russell was the 4th scoring option his ENTIRE run w/ the celtics. was he their 4th best player? there's more to the game than scoring.

Posted by LBs Finest, Tue Jun-18-13 04:34 PM
else I said is true. Shit as a Spurs fan you should know that, Kobe's destroyed your team in the playoffs many times lol.

2001: 33, 7, 7.
2002: 26, 5, 5.
2003: 32, 5, 3.6
2004: 26, 6, 6

Those are his playoff averages against San Antonio when he was with Shaq. He was no ordinary "sidekick", not with those performances, especially when you consider how many times he closed you guys out with clutch play down the stretch of games.
