White guard with athleticism and swagger? YES SIR.
Floor slapping and white boy mean mugging after jams? YES SIR.
Duval County product? YES SIRRRRRRRR.

Our 2014 recruitment class starts with a MEMS. Excellent work, K.

2167557, Well, they're totally different players.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Apr-24-13 11:44 AM
That's an odd comparison. I guess it's the best one if you just wanted to throw some pro-Michigan sentiment into the post apropos of nothing. So if that's the case, fair enough.
2167578, well obviously lol

Posted by rodimusprime, Wed Apr-24-13 11:48 AM
Yeah I can see hating this kid for a long long time. He got just the right amount of punchability in the face area. Plus he doesn't look good enough to go pro after just a year or two. Seems like he'd like to stick around and develop in that system. Yeah... I hate him already.
2167568, We not gettin Booker now, but that's fine
Posted by Basaglia, Wed Apr-24-13 11:49 AM
2167583, Since Jones'll still be there, we should be okay without him.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Apr-24-13 12:06 PM
Taking the athletic creator over the spot-up shooter isn't a decision K has often made, but I don't mind it one bit.
2167584, What's your 2k14 wishlist looking like?
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Apr-24-13 12:07 PM
2167592, Mine:
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Apr-24-13 12:26 PM
1a and 1b. Jones and Okafor.
2a and 2b. Lyles or Looney.
3a and 3b. Winslow or Pinson.

I haven't seen enough of the last four guys to have strong opinions at the moment. But in a fantasy world, we get Jones, Okafor, one of the kids from my 2 list, and one of the kids from my 3 list.

Obviously that's unlikely to happen. But still. Fantasy world.
2167604, You can get 1a & 1b and be set. Lol
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Apr-24-13 12:34 PM
And back off Lyles

I just want: Mudiay, Lyles, and Alexander. I'm also big on Stanley Johnson . Not sure if we can pry him for the westcoast though.
2167610, Well, sure, lol.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Apr-24-13 12:37 PM
But as you usually note every year, there's a difference between being set and being SET. UK usually has three or four top fifteen recruits and I still see you putting in a post, "Now all we need is to get THIS guy," lol.
2167621, Lol...true I'm trying to strike while the iron's hot.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Apr-24-13 12:45 PM
I'm too close to the days of patiently waiting for Jai Lucas to decide to go to Florida. Yep Jai Lucas.

And if K can manage to get Jabari to stay 2 yrs. shit.
2167628, I'm not banking on that.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Apr-24-13 12:47 PM
If we get Black for next year, we'll make big enough moves with that roster that I don't expect to keep Sheed, Hood, or Parker.
2167661, I dunno, Jabari seems like he's on some other shit.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Apr-24-13 01:21 PM
WHen they interviewed him on the sidelines of the Jordan Brand Classic about other schools recruiting him he looked right into the camera and said some shit like, "All of the other schools were great and I was fortunate for them recruiting me but when as a black man from my community you have a chance to go to a prestigious University such as Duke and play under a legend Coach K....."

I was like awww shit. This Corey Booker ass dude is fantastic....That Basa and Frank, "Jabari for Senate" post in 2028 is gonna be epic.
2167687, I'll keep knocking on wood.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Apr-24-13 01:56 PM
2167606, pinson isn't happening.
Posted by Basaglia, Wed Apr-24-13 12:35 PM

Dallas Heatvricks BACK 2 BACK CHAMPS!!
2167586, meanwhile, #OLLIEFACE signed a long limbed polyglot:
Posted by Castro, Wed Apr-24-13 12:14 PM
Amida Brimah, a 6-foot-11 center from Miami, signed a national letter of intent Monday to play for UConn, making him a full-fledged member of the program.

The signing was expected. Brimah orally committed to UConn on Jan. 14, when he visited the school and watched the Huskies lose to Louisville. Last weekend he traveled to New York to watch incoming freshmen Kentan Facey and Terrence Samuel in an all-star game, a strong indication of his investment in the program. Brimah, originally from Ghana, is expected to begin classes at UConn in early July.

"Amida was one of the most passionate basketball players I saw during the entire recruiting period, and I fell in love with his passion for the game," UConn coach Kevin Ollie said. "He showed leadership both on and off the court, and then he was the best player in the game."

Brimah, like Facey, has been playing organized basketball for only a few years. He played mostly soccer during his childhood in Ghana.

But as a senior at Miami's Archbishop Carroll, Brimah averaged 16 points, 11.7 rebounds and 7.2 blocks and shot 68 percent from the floor and 72 percent from the free-throw line. Brimah had five triple-doubles and helped Archbishop Carroll (26-5) reach the Florida Class 4A regional semifinals.

The consensus evaluation of Brimah is that he could help UConn immediately as a defensive presence, but that his offensive skills will need time to develop. UConn coaches began closely monitoring him last November, as did other schools.

"We think Amida can be another in the long line of outstanding UConn big men," Ollie said. "He's a terrific shot-blocker and rebounder. He's obviously got to get stronger , but he's got a chance to make an impact right away. I love the fact that he is dying to get up here this summer."

"With Amida joining Kentan and Terrence, we think we have three new players coming in who can all help us. What I like best is they each have a relentless motor that just keeps going. They are excited to play basketball."
2167624, He jumped slightly higher when there was a dark-skinned player nearby.

his name is an inversion of one of the only "cool" elected officials in Florida (i.e. Last Name First Name)

Duke's gotten TOO far away from the "Classic Duke Hate" mold with their "remembered" players as of recent. Zoubek vanished. Singler was close, but was too much a goon. Paulus might have been the last real "This Is Why We Hate Duke" player alongside Redick... because motherfuckers hated Redick like shit.

Austin didn't stay long enough to get that true hate. he (like SouthBeachMan said about Hendo) is like Kobe if he went to Duke. Which means he should have been the GOAT hated Duke player, but...

I couldn't bring myself to drudge up any kind of hate for dudes like Kyrie, Quinn Cook, and esp. Nolan Smith. I mean, CMON. They've been more Johnny Dawkins than Grant "Buzzer" Hill and Christian Laettner, even in their championship teams for a while.
2167704, Doc getting soft on us. it's always "fuck them niggas" on GP.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Apr-24-13 02:27 PM
only reason Kyrie dont get Duke hate is because he barely played for them. and i even then i still find myself like "damn i like a nigga off Duke? this is weird"
2167708, These dudes don't really inspire the kind of hate that Redick did
Posted by Dr Claw, Wed Apr-24-13 02:35 PM
Austin was close, but he was gone real quick. He has potential for "residual" hate ala Laettner and other post-Dukies.

and certainly not like Boozer, He Who Shall Not Be Named, Baggins, Spaghetti, and friends did.

Oh shit. I did forget the one Dukie that I STILL hate years after he's gone.

SHELDEN
FUCKING
WILLIAMS.

Fuckin' Thwomp Trap lookin' ass...

I got no love for Duke basketball but I hate FSU, and the U-Rine as much as I hate Duke now. Especially FSU. Fake Forest, Pee-Tech and them are in the second-tier of hate.
2167728, Nah, difference is Duke has started winning people over.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Wed Apr-24-13 03:00 PM
That's the only difference

And its mostly about K

People started liking K...he might not be the
KEY to Duke hate but if you LIKE coach K it becomes
harder to hate Duke

More on that later

But to the current players? ALL these niggas just as hateable
if NOT MORE than Hill, Laettner, Hurley, etc

Umm Bobby Hurley has more street cred than 99.999% of hood
niggas, grew up way more hood than any Fab 5 nigga not
named Jalen or Juwan....we HATED him and there was almost
nothing to dislike about him, really

Even Grant Hill: could outjump all these Earl the Goat,
Helicopter Hearns types. Yeah, fucked up fade I guess...
...okay, that fade warranted the hate...but still, Hill
did nothing really to deserve hate (other than that fade,
good lord)

Compared to these modern niggas?

I mean serious:

Kyrie has a PERMANENT asshole smirk on his face

ALWAYS

There is less than a 10% chance that Kyrie is anything
more than a dick in real life

There is literally nothing likeable about Austin. He
was a jerk, had it seeping through his caesar

Quinn Cook shouted "this is my city" down double digits
to Maryland...he is easily one of the least likeable
people in SPORTS

ALL the fodder for hatred is there...one thing:

Duke and MOSTLY COACH K, started winning niggas over

>was restoring USA basketball back to glory and all of a
>sudden it wasn't hateable anymore

particularly the USA Basketball part. Larry Brown lived up to his "Bronze Brown" name after K outcoached him.

It's a begrudging respect that has replaced insta-hate.

The players? Yeah, Kyrie is low-key "Rondo" smug, Quinn Cook is the anti-Duke archetype, and Austin has the NOT-low-key Kobe gene... he is easily the most hateable out of the last few years.

but hateable Duke players peaked in the '90s... they will never reach the heights of Hurley, Hill, and Laettner. At least Buzzer cut his hair, I still hate Hurley and Laettner. Esp. Laettner, LOL

If this dude is good and cheap like Austin would have been had he stayed at Duke more than one year... he has a chance.

I'll put it like this. Duke now is like the Celtics after they got some Ricky Davis-type niggas.
2167737, lmao, goddamn, I still laugh every time I think about this.

2167744, that's because duke got in jive late and this happened really fast
Posted by Basaglia, Wed Apr-24-13 03:23 PM
i follow recruits for at least a year before they commit. duke was after dev booker and ahmed hill and then grayson started gaining notoriety and duke kicked the tires. K flat out likes him. he can shot and handle. grayson's a late-bloomer because he don't like to stand apart from his teammates. now in AAU or HS. not that's he's more comfortable doing that, he'd finding new parts of his game. everybody was chasing after him. at first it was just the SEC schools who'd seen him a lot.

kids emerge, dogg. said it plenty of times...the soph to junior year high school jump is no joke. kids come from NOWHERE to elite status. grayson was on the radar, but he is the hottest 2014 SG recruit right now.

Stauskas doubled all of Diebler's freshman numbers on a National Finalist and All-Regional selection

not only that, his 3PT% as a FR was better than Diebler's career mark

on top of being a higher usage player

just...no

2179815, He's much more versatile than Diebler was, but a better 3 pt shooter? Lol, no.
Posted by guru0509, Tue May-14-13 12:52 AM
*points to the record books*

*Maybe* you'll have a valid claim in 3 years after Stauskas graduates, and we can compare their 3 point numbers over a span of 4 years, but I doubt it.

It's cool that he made lots of 3s on his driveway though? I bet he got a trophy from his parents.
2179884, Diebler isnt better, he just shoots more. hes at 41.6%, which is good
Posted by cgonz00cc, Tue May-14-13 09:06 AM
but its not as high as 44%

and like i said, Diebler wasnt as accurate as that till he was a senior

His stock just keeps rising.

Hopefully in today's game, he approaches Tyus on the other bench and says, "yeah, you saw that 30 in 18 I dropped yesterday? Let's connect like Voltron on these chumps." Then Jabari will pop out of a nearby trash can like Oscar The Grouch, yell, "I MIGHT STICK AROUND ONE MORE, FOOD FOR THOUGHT," then disappear as quickly as he arrived.

I know you don't mean Duke'll be short in talent next year. And even in size, with Hood, Jabari, and possibly Tarik Black next year, along with a taller Andre Dawkins off the bench and Amile Jefferson, we'll be bigger and more athletic at most positions than normal.

Plus, Allen is 6'5 and may reach 6'6. I'm not too worried about his height either.

Definitely looking forward to that Michigan game. Hoping Tarik Black comes along so that we have someone to guard McGary.
