The Power Trip was bullshit. Those kind of angles -never- last. Not enough for a year of booking anyway.
That was HHH's time, right then. Even if they kept heel Austin, HHH was the one they should have had facing him. And the story was built right in!
Man.
They made up for it (overcompensated, even) later... but man, that was a ball dropping.
