The overall impression I got from the Deadspin article

is that they were implicating Manti in the hoax

with the motivation being adding votes for the Heisman

and that's how they presented the facts

they had this theory

and were trying to prove it

when a simpler explanation

is the Catfish theory

that Ranaiah just f'd with Manti

Manti fell for it and told some lies to keep up appearances

being embarrassed for his level of involvement in an online relationship

IMO, the way the Deadspin article was written is the reason people are having a hard time accepting that Manti might not have known

they could have just presented the facts

pointed all the holes in the story

shit, they even touched on Ranaiah doing this to other people

but they didn't take that route

they went after the bigger possible story

a week later, the Deadspin article doesn't feel like unbiased journalism

it feels like an agenda
