2101507, The Granddaddy Of Em All...Wisconsin vs Stanford
Posted by guru0509, Tue Jan-01-13 04:35 PM
if you ever get a chance to go to a Rose Bowl game, please do so. the 2010 Rose Bowl was one of the best games ever in terms of atmosphere, fan fare etc.

anyway...

the OG Barry Alvarez vs David Shaw...one of the top young coaches in CFB

cheese, beer and brats vs wine

brawn vs brain (although UW is a great school in itself)

both smash mouth teams...Montee Ball's final game as a Badger.

Vegas has Stanford -6

Bielema could never win this game...wonder if UWs luck changes under someone different..?

Lets get it.

(Go Badgers, big fan of Alvarez..btw that Gary Anderson hire was very ho hum)

If he can keep the big Wisconsin kids in state, and find talent in the West or south they'll keep it going

Great.

Why on earth do these college coaches think 30 yards of field position is worth the ball?

So stupid.
2101552, This Stanford marching band is trash

Bullshit gimmicks that look cute and then get solved

Kinda like Mike Martz, but even shittier

Shaw is a legitimate personality. People like to play
for him, does it the old fashioned way

Have Chip Kelly coach this 2012 Stanford team and watch
them go 5-7

I don't even know where to start with this reply.
2101658, Furthermore, his offense isn't even 'gimmicky' as many ppl are
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Tue Jan-01-13 09:59 PM
claiming. Not that I expect many people to know this, but he did an extroardinary job in New Hampshire (I know bc I follow CAA football closely as an alum of a CAA school). Overnight, UNH turned into an offensive juggernaut. Jerry Azumah set numerous school and conference records. He won the Walter Payton award and went on to play in the NFL. Chip Kelly helped develop QB Ricky Santos, who again broke numerous passing records. Also, WR David Ball became famous for breaking Jerry Rice's all time I-AA TD record. Chip was/is an absolute mastermind on offense. At UNH and Oregon he immediately made an immediate and significant impact. He scares opposing teams/coaches. Bill Bilicheck, along with several other NFL coaches, have consulted with Chip because they are extremely fascinated with his ideas.

The guy has a remarkable story. He's literally had to hustle for every job he's gotten. He's coached ALL (offensive) positions in addition to being an offensive coordinator/head coach. To me, he's a guy who's extremely driven and determined to succeed. Will he succeed in the NFL? Who knows. It's a tough business. However, I think it's mighty speculative and a bit unfair to label him as a 'gimmicky' coach.
2101731, on the rare occaision when kelly is in a close game, he shits his pants

I'll take the pro style coach who values defense and special teams any day of the week.
2102070, don't disagree with this *but*
Posted by sfMatt, Wed Jan-02-13 02:45 PM
he's also never had as much/more football talent on his side than the team he was facing in those moments, particularly on the offensive line.
2101761, Didn't know these details. Thanks for this back story. n/m

2101760, Mike Martz without 5 Hall of Famers = Horrific
Posted by Orbit_Established, Wed Jan-02-13 12:35 AM

Martz got more terrible as his responsibility
increased

This isn't even debatable

Its why he can barely get a job anymore

Act has worn thin, been solved

two straight bowl W's post-harbaugh.

QB switch to hulk hogan and rattling off 6 straight now.

mirrielees house, stand up.
2101598, They lost the Fiesta last year against OK State
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Jan-01-13 08:33 PM
But Shaw's a great coach. Taking what Harbaugh built and then elevating it, kinda like what Patterson did at TCU. Stanford easily could have slid back into mediocrity, but they've been turned into a legit Pac 12 power.
2101594, No self-respecting black person can root against Stanford
Posted by Orbit_Established, Tue Jan-01-13 08:29 PM

Black coaching record is stellar

Shaw has predominant black hebrew coordinators too

too bad we can't finish a game for the third year in a row.

Glad Alvarez lead this team and we did what we could. As we did all year, we just made dumb mistakes that we couldn't get over and our injury to Stave put us in a bind. Philips was a great leader and gamer but doesn't have the arm to have a passing threat. Play calling was a bit of a head scratcher at times but hey, what the hell do I know.

I'm really excited for Gary Andersen and think he's going to do really really well here...better than Bielema in the long run - recruiting and Rose Bowl victories. Hell, GA will have a good shot to go to the MNC at some point if he can keep things going and clean up the mistakes and clock management.

At least other fans should respect Andersen more as a good dude and not a brash fat-faced prick like Bielema was. Yeah, I'm lashing out a dude now.
