a friend who knew Jobe a bit with the Doyers and much better recently when he was getting some work done on his shoulder at the Jobe-Kerlan clinic. He said above any medical expertise, Jobe was a guy who always went out of his way to say hello to even the most remote acquaintance and was very giving of his time despite its value. Kerlan died a while ago, too, I dunno, I feel like in the late 90s.

But you really nailed what made his innovation so special and within the sports world it definitely had a ripple effect. Teams are more about getting it right than writing guys off now and this was a big part of that (of course the money involved doesn't hurt either).
