93661, the day Josiah got a wristwatch
Posted by iammindful, Sat Jun-06-15 01:21 PM
I haven't been around in a very long time; had to create a new(er) username several years back due to the fact that I forgot my password and whichever email account I was using for "mindful" when I was posting... I am glad to see a lot of you still here, still perfecting, still holding on and honing your craft. Peace to each of you.

the day Josiah got a wristwatch

he’s got a new watch
from Parker’s Jewelry Mart,
finally learning how to
tell time. as soon as
we got out of the car,
he raced over to our
Granny and smothered her
with the new find.
“Look it, Nana! Look it!”
I am in awe of his
amazement by something
so small, peculiar, and
cheap. but, I don’t
say a word.

“Well now, lemme see
what you got there, J.”
J is short for J-o-s-i-a-h.
he hates his name though.
he squeezes his little frame
into the comfort of
our Granny’s lap and
shoves that silly little
watch into her face.
“It’s got Tony the Tiger
and Tucan Sam and
Snap, Crackle, Pop. SSSEEEEE.”
he’s part serious, part sickening,
yet Granny doesn’t mind.

“Oh, I see it just fine, J.
how about you go on inside
and get ready for
bed, okay?”
he skips to a beat
no one else can hear, bopping
up and down rhythmically,
losing his shoes in
the process.
Granny nudges my arm
to gather a reaction.
“You all right, child?”
“Yes, ma’am. Just tired.”
“Well then, you head
on in too. It’s getting late.”

I obey this simple
request, removing my
shoes at he door. But,
I look back at Granny
and notice that she’s
admiring a watch of her own.
She whispers, “It doesn’t
take much with those two,
Clyde. Doesn’t take much
at all.”

I was wondering about that username. I actually forgot mine too years back and I remember telling a friend of mine from this board, it will come back to me in a dream. That night I went to sleep and it appeared to me big as day. lol Your pieces may appear so simplistic but then they always pack a powerful meaning. I am happy that you are still here too.

flull of light, air, nostalgia and love. Highly dug. My Amir is wearing his watch a lot more these days so I could fully visualize every aspect. Thank you for sharing this!
