733181, Looks cool

But it seems they gave away all of the plot points in the trailer. I guess that's the style now a days.

* goes back to watching Phantom Menace trailer from Ain't it Cool News *
733188, that last shot is a fucking tragedy

How are you going to have that actress in this kind of film and then make that shot your punctuation piece? So deflating.

Cause I do feel like I've seen the whole movie just from the trailer

733428, About one draft away from being excellent.

It's missing that punch that I thought the third act would have.

Also, I wanted a little more explanation on how the paintings became posssessed and why dude wanted them burned.

Jake G. murders it tho.
733429, He's channeling Willem Dafoe in the trailer and that works.

Eh.

Not a great critique/satire on the art world.

Not a particularly good horror movie.

Jake G. does his thing. Toni Colette is totally wasted.

You've seen worse. You've seen much better.
733449, 2 straight misses for gilroy imo.

733476, pointless
Posted by benny, Tue Feb-05-19 06:15 PM
I'm enjoying this current run of Jake G Pacinoing up his roles, but this was a lame art film mixed with an even lamer horror film
733548, I think this line I read from a review sums it up best
Posted by Nodima, Mon Feb-11-19 05:00 PM
"Needed to be either 40% better or 20% worse"

The art was probably the best part of the movie, that and some of the early dialogue. I think the horror angle was a mistake honestly, maybe just because the comedy works so much better, but the ensemble was so good on paper it was more annoying than sad to lose them.

Well, except for Josephina. I haven't seen that actress in anything else but she didn't seem up for this movie at all. Gilroy also gave her some really bad scenes to work with; if there's any scene that exposes Gilroy couldn't make the leap from thriller to horror, it was her death. That went on foreeeever.

733653, This was fun to watch

The ending was kinda whatever, though.

I think they coulda went full Return to the Valley of the Dolls with this, and it would have been much better.

733654, I enjoyed it too...wouldn't recommend it but it worked for me
Posted by jigga, Tue Feb-19-19 01:47 PM
733655, if this had been a satire of the art world and not satire/horror
Posted by BigWorm, Tue Feb-19-19 02:02 PM
I would have liked it 100% more.

As it is, the movie plays out as if one or several of the producers insisted that blood and gore be shoe-horned into this movie, whether it made sense or not.

As it is, before anyone's story arc is done or resolved, everyone starts getting wrecked one by one, before any of them figure out what's going on or why.

It's like in a lot of horror movies where the black dude dies early on before everyone else knows who or what the evil presence coming for them even is.

Under that context I guess it's funny that the only black dude in the movie seems like the one person who realizes that shit is bout to go south, and takes himself out of the game altogether before he gets got.

Maybe it was also funny that Malkovich survived, even though I had just seen Bird Box a week or so before this, and in that movie it was obvious early on that Malkovich wasn't going to be one of the survivors.
733702, first two acts were fire...then it turned into a shitfest...too bad

733704, Some good moments but overall an absolute mess.
