732619, Narcos: Mexico (Season 1, 2018)
Posted by Creole, Sun Nov-18-18 02:23 PM
Dropped on 11/16...
Six episodes in and I’m digging the story. There has not been as mythology tied to El Padrino as there was for Escobar but I’m digging this.

Gallardo is a bad man!
732620, I’m really digging this
Posted by gumz, Sun Nov-18-18 05:27 PM
Episode 5 had me hyped. If you’ve seen it you’ll know why.

Diego Luna is so good in this I’m concerned about them pulling off the transition to the other bosses. You know who is already in this but is the actor strong enough to carry the show when it’s time? Time will tell I guess.

Btw does this mean there will be two Narcos shows running at the same time? If so I’m in.
732622, I finished it this evening...

Diego Luna kicked ass! I have no clue if that guy is going to be strong enough. Looking at him, I don’t believe so. Maybe, he’ll surprise us.

>Btw does this mean there will be two Narcos shows running at
>the same time? If so I’m in.
I think they’re done with the Colombians for now.

Edit: The actor who played Don Neto was the second best performer on the series.
732626, Neto was great....

Which is funny cause at first he came across as either a throwaway character or someone we would hate
732633, yup. exactly this

732623, Lol yooo, you didn't drop a spoiler but
Posted by Mynoriti, Sun Nov-18-18 10:37 PM
I saw this post and had a feeling

SPOILER

at first i thought, oh he just meant Cali, but when i saw Blacky, i was like fuck yeah!

>Episode 5 had me hyped. If you’ve seen it you’ll know

732625, Yup...I got so hyped then tool
Posted by gumz, Mon Nov-19-18 02:08 AM
732643, Same.
Posted by JiggysMyDayJob, Mon Nov-19-18 06:47 PM
Once he turned around in the car, I was like "its on!"
732630, its kind of funny how they portray him on this show so far
Posted by mista k5, Mon Nov-19-18 11:56 AM
im curious how theyll handle his transition

definitely seems like a throwaway dude if we didnt know about him.
732640, yeah it should be interesting...
Posted by gumz, Mon Nov-19-18 04:28 PM
but also the way things are going it could take several seasons to get to that point
732646, If we’re talking about the same person, you’ll see certain things...
Posted by Creole, Mon Nov-19-18 09:08 PM
by the time season is nearing its end.

He gonna be a straight fool!
732654, we might not be...
Posted by gumz, Tue Nov-20-18 11:57 AM
the guy i'm talking about didn't do much all season. they just made a point to keep saying his name lol
732656, he kind of disappeared until the end of the last episode
Posted by mista k5, Tue Nov-20-18 12:10 PM
i expect them to do some additional back story when time comes
732671, We are... LOL
Posted by Creole, Wed Nov-21-18 01:40 PM
You mentioning that they keep saying his name is what leads me to believe we are.

They were saying his name a bunch.
732717, his name is his name
Posted by j., Mon Nov-26-18 08:34 AM
That's usually how it goes too
random nobody who starts from nothing takes over cuz no one sees him coming
732731, The boss doesn’t let him sit in on the last meeting huh?
Posted by High Society, Tue Nov-27-18 12:41 PM
732751, he does...he calls him over
Posted by gumz, Fri Nov-30-18 03:09 AM
732624, Don Neto is hilarious
Posted by makaveli, Sun Nov-18-18 11:20 PM
732653, i was not ready for that last episode
Posted by mista k5, Tue Nov-20-18 11:06 AM
about 20 minutes in im like okay i guess the story ends here. paused it and saw it still had over 40 minutes. that episode really ended the season with a bang.
732655, did set up season 2 nicely
Posted by gumz, Tue Nov-20-18 11:58 AM
732657, poor isabella
Posted by mista k5, Tue Nov-20-18 12:11 PM
why is dude treating her like that??? lol
732660, she wanted too much...
Posted by gumz, Tue Nov-20-18 04:16 PM
and I think he was going to take care of her in some way (maybe not that way) but she tried to flex on him and all that went out the window
732662, maybe i missed some context or dialogue
Posted by mista k5, Tue Nov-20-18 05:41 PM
to me it seemed she was constantly riding for him until he turned on her. she seemed to be reasonable.

seemed to me more like he was tired of everyone trying to get a bigger bite and i guess he knew he had control over her.

*mild spoiler*

whos the dude that got shot in the eye through his sunglasses in the last episode after being released. whos the actor and character? i kept wanting it to be gael garcia but i was like why did they disguise him so much??? lol
732676, He was one of the main DFS secret police guys...
Posted by gumz, Thu Nov-22-18 03:25 AM
732672, He told her to play her position and that he'd take care of her but, as...
Posted by Creole, Wed Nov-21-18 01:43 PM
said before, she wanted too much. She kept pressing the issue.

I wonder why he wouldn't give her the business when he was clearly doing so around town. She wanted him and when she couldn't get him, she wanted more bread.
732677, I think he was gonna give her something until...
Posted by gumz, Thu Nov-22-18 03:27 AM
She threatened to tell the others what he did to ol’ dude who was running coke before them. Once she did that it was a wrap. Her timing was awful too cause everybody was getting on his last nerve at that point.
732666, I was locked in from Episode 1 onward
Posted by Amritsar, Wed Nov-21-18 11:39 AM
This kinda snuck up on me. Didn't see any advertisements for this? No previews or heads up that a new damn season of Narcos is coming

I just happened to find it while scrolling the other day.

I knew about the history of Keke Camerana, so that drew me in quickly.

The accents in this season also feel more authentic. Not every Sinaloan cartel member nails the accent of course (Neto sounds like he's from Chihuaha lol), but at least they are all doing some variation of a Mexican accent.

It was difficult at times to get into the Pablo seasons because he sounded Portugese lol. Didn't ruin it for me, but it made this new season way more authentic.

Diego Luna as Gallardo is your favorite Padrino's favorite Padrino

732668, i think i saw an ad for it the week before on sunday night football
Posted by mista k5, Wed Nov-21-18 12:56 PM
it just said coming soon. then friday comes along and boom its there. i think i actually realized it was out due to this post.
732673, I didn't know until I opened up Netflix to watch The Kominsky Method...
Posted by Creole, Wed Nov-21-18 01:45 PM
which I had seen advertised earlier on Saturday while I was watching the Maryland and Ohio State game.

When I saw it, I was like: "To hell with that method, I need to get on this Narcos binge real quick."
732685, If I remember correctly the actor who played Pablo
Posted by navajo joe, Fri Nov-23-18 09:48 AM
didn't speak Spanish prior to the role. Which is crazy.

I am not familiar enough w/ the Colombian accent to know the difference but I always wondered how obvious it was to people who know
732697, I made a point of just reading the subtitles
Posted by Amritsar, Sun Nov-25-18 08:56 AM
And blocking out his accent. the story and acting were so good that it made up for it

But for those of us who can tell? Yeah It was pretty obvious.

I'm actually way more invested in Gallardo as jefe when I went into it for Pablo.
732709, Man that must've been crazy
Posted by navajo joe, Sun Nov-25-18 06:04 PM
because he gave a hell of a performance but I can imagine how much the accent would take you out of it.
732718, A Brazilian playing a Colombian paisa convincingly is a hell of an ask
Posted by j., Mon Nov-26-18 08:38 AM
It's up there with Brits doing Baltimore accents
Moura's accent in the 1st season was cringeworthy, but he got it together in S2
732683, I get bored with the narcs they cast for this series
Posted by spirit, Thu Nov-22-18 11:49 PM
I know it’s a new story. It starts with some dry ass voiceover from a guy I assume to be our newest boring narc character. I cut it off. Would rather they do a series like this focused on the cartels, a la Godfather. I don’t give a shit about another cop show. Or half a cop show.

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)

733223, should have kept watching
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Mon Jan-14-19 08:29 PM
Dude only does the voice over and doesnt show up until the last scene of the season.
732733, Spoiler Questions
Posted by makaveli, Tue Nov-27-18 02:47 PM
What was that oil Don Neto was smoking at the end? Did the boss set him up just cause Don Neto was saying he's greedy? Miguel pulled some super boss moves in that last episode, the military scene and the head in the box. I feel for Kiki's wife.
732739, RE: Spoiler Questions
Posted by Mynoriti, Wed Nov-28-18 02:04 PM
>What was that oil Don Neto was smoking at the end?

I'd have to look again but I assumed he was freebasing

>Did the
>boss set him up just cause Don Neto was saying he's greedy?

Neto seemed pretty loyal. I don't think it was anything personal, but I figure Miguel had to give up someone huge in order for this to work, so he offered up Neto. Neto saying something like "he made his move" seemed to indicate he knew it was all in the game.

>Miguel pulled some super boss moves in that last episode, the
>military scene and the head in the box. I feel for Kiki's
>wife.

That shit was nuts. The governor's kid looked up to Miguel and Miguel looked up to the governor like a dad so that revenge move was ruthless as fuck. (didn't really happen tho)

I don't know how much is fiction/fact but Miguel on the show was kind of a complicated character. Through most of the season, he doesn't even seem like all that bad of a guy. Or at least he appears to have a conscience. He's loyal to a fault to Rafa, he had these impulsive rage fits where he killed people who kind of had it coming (like the DFS guy), but in the end he turns on everyone who was loyal, or closest to him. The governor's kid, Isabella, his wife, Neto..

732740, ruthless before eazy
Posted by mista k5, Wed Nov-28-18 02:18 PM
732741, I took it as he was corrupted by all the power he gained
Posted by makaveli, Wed Nov-28-18 07:32 PM
Do you know if that military scene happened? Yes, killing the son was cold blooded but the best way to get revenge on the father.
732752, No half measures...
Posted by gumz, Fri Nov-30-18 03:15 AM
He realized he couldn’t fuck around anymore. He got enough lectures about how different the coke game is that he finally took heed and went all in. It started with the meeting where he changed some of the territories and told them if they didn’t like it they could leave.
732775, Why Miguel remind me of Ed Norton from 1st to last scene?
Posted by High Society, Sat Dec-01-18 11:40 PM
The entire season I kept thinking...
god damn... this guy reminds me so much of Edward Norton.

Where is Norton?
Would love to see him in a new film.
732776, Lol YUP
Posted by Mynoriti, Sun Dec-02-18 04:29 AM
I felt the same way. He kept reminding me of Norton in 25th Hour

732786, GODDAMNIT
Posted by Amritsar, Mon Dec-03-18 09:21 AM
This is one of those internet comments that stays with you

I'm now goign to think of Eddie Norton on subsequent viewings.

Thanks
733124, Just finished it

Another excellent season...this one really had some serious story arcs to it and the origin seasons are always so interesting. Seeing Gallardo's development into a no-nonsense Padrino was especially interesting...those moments where he decided to lay the law down with Isabella and then told his wife that he doesn't need her anymore, he was all in...he finally understood what it took to be at the top, it's a lonely place in that world.

The Kiki arc...damn. Can't wait for the next one, great set up in the finale.
