You've gotta 'feed the beast' in Hollywood and the easiest way to do that for a man is to play the action hero. Maybe he could have gone the Brad Pitt route, someone who actually didn't play an action hero early on, and do interesting character work to sustain his career.

But I couldn't see him doing what Keanu did, appearing in The Matrix.
