729959, Bad Times at the El Royale (Drew Goddard, 2018) Posted by bwood, Thu Jun-07-18 05:16 PM
Man this is another one that I've been anticipating. Drew's track record has been solid thus far.

Man this is one of the best films recently to use multiple points of view effectively.
Genre fare needs to operate on this level more often.
Drew Goddard is one of the best working right now.

732204, Cynthia Erivo kiiiilled it (spoilers) Posted by benny, Thu Oct-18-18 02:06 PM
this was fun, like a slightly deeper Tarantino flick. Lot of neatly designed plot moments, though I didn't love the last third when Hemsworth arrives kinda quickly after the phone call IMO. Still, the movie managed to do the "cool" stuff without appearing heart- or brainless

737973, im liking her more and more Posted by Crash Bandacoot, Tue Feb-11-20 04:05 PM
she stood out in widows and almost forgot she was in chewing gum. she is also fantastic in the outsider, sky is the limit for her.

733205, This was like the post-Pulp Fiction era Tarantino knock-offs Posted by navajo joe, Sun Jan-13-19 11:05 PM
A great cast and great premise largely wasted.
Cynthia Erivo and Jeff Bridges are fantastic in this but overall the movie was a chore to sit through and Hemsworth's entire character could have been excised and the movie would have been all the better for it.
Would have made a great novel

737870, third act was...defeating Posted by will_5198, Tue Jan-28-20 09:46 PM
would've been more satisfying just left to wonder what happened to everyone. because there's not much there the last 30-40 minutes.

737871, I enjoyed it Posted by BigWorm, Wed Jan-29-20 06:59 AM
I watched this a few days ago.
I liked it a lot.
Chris Hemsworth looked like he was having a fun time in the role.
Jeff Bridges gives a strong performance. Same with the lead (I forget her name).
I don't really see the Pulp Fiction comparisons. Sure it was an ensemble cast crime thriller but that's about it.
I liked how it slowly built up in intensity until Hemsworth shows up and the whole movie shifts.
And there were a few legit surprises. You really have no idea who is going to die and who is going to be integral to the plot.
Not an A+ movie necessarily, but I was entertained.
