I don't have kids so I can't relate on that front. But violence, especially gun violence is more prevalent in our culture than it ought to be.
Even though, I'm anti-war and don't watch violent movies for the most part, I don't really object to Deadpool being in the theaters. Which shows how our culture supports violence, although fictional in this case.
Kids probably have enough self-control to not act out with guns, but the least the display of violence and the use of violence as a problem solving tool isn't shamed.
I don't have any statistics but I would think that violence directed at children is probably lower than it has been, but violence marketed to kids is higher than it's ever been.
