To Creed: Creed had 15 fights, was not entirely self taught, and had tons of natural ability, so there's that
But the main point is this: Pretty Ricky was getting ready to hit the pen, and so the fight was really just a cash grab publicity stunt for the champion to say goodbye to his British fans
In those circumstances, great fighters pick tin cans all the time. Apollo was a tin can with a NAME that could generate some PPV purchases, get some last minute freedom
It's no less silly than Apollo Creed picking Rocky Balboa in the original Rocky
