700943, They fucked up a good premise. Unsurprisingly.

Most critics have remarked how the premise should allow for zany dumb fun, and I agree wholeheartedly. The original short film rules.

Unfortunately, they didn't go for full-blown alien attack mayhem. Instead, they play one game at a time, which basically makes for zero suspense. It also doesn't help that Columbus can't stage action.

It REALLY doesn't help that we're saddled with an awful Sandler love story.

It also REALLY doesn't help that women are depicted really poorly in this thing.

It also REALLY doesn't help that the movie is rated PG-13 for absolutely no reason. This could have been PG SO EASILY, which probably would've given it more box office. Baffling decision. There are literally three bad words, all within jokes, and some references to "sluts," which, again, isn't necessary. At ALL.

So, yeah. It's not good. The protag unquestionably should've been younger, they should've rated it PG, and they should've gotten a halfway decent action director. Because they *clearly* spent money on this thing, and in the finale, when the full melee begins, you can see the potential for fun with this premise. It's all wasted, however.
