687974, Terrific. Gyllenhaal is in a class of his own. Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Nov-01-14 09:58 PM
And Robert Elswit's cinematography is gorgeous,
The satire is by far the least interesting thing about it. It's far far more effective as a character study, a horror film of sorts. Luckily, the media satire stuff is pretty minimal-- it's not pretending to say anything remotely new, it's just giving our character a muddy world in which he is free to revel.
But God, what a tremendous horror film. And hilarious! And that character! The dialogue and performance! Gyllenhaal! I want to see it again. Definitely one of the best of the year.
