681938, Movies you regret forcing your parents to take you to
Posted by b.Touch, Thu Jul-10-14 03:29 PM
Let's talk about it.

Terrible, horrible-awful kiddie (or not so kiddie) pics that you begged and pleaded your parents to take you to see, that now looking back, you almost want to write home like "I'm sorry, Dad."

I've a list. Most of them are TV cartoon shows adapted to features:

The Secret of the Sword (1985)
The Care Bears Movie (1985)
Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation (1986)
The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland (1987)
GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords (1986)
Masters of the Universe (1987)
The Nutcracker Prince (1990 - I thought this one was awful even back then

Masters of the Universe

Jaws 3D - i think I walked out of that one

681942, Peter Pan...

Care bears
Water Babies
Muppets take Manhattan
Superman 3
681946, Walt Disney's Peter Pan (1953)?
Posted by b.Touch, Thu Jul-10-14 04:16 PM
Granted, I've not seen this movie head to tail in years - is it that bad?
682009, If you know the story you don't need to see the movie
Posted by louie_depalma, Fri Jul-11-14 02:04 PM
Even as a kid I was disappointed.
681951, I'm pretty sure I subjected my mother to "Heart Beeps" twice
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Jul-10-14 06:05 PM
Mama, I' so, so sorry.
681954, I'd say Gremlins 2, but that would be a lie
Posted by celery77, Thu Jul-10-14 06:51 PM
Especially when you come from a household where the only family sanctioned theater trips were for shit like My Left Foot. Maybe if Mom even had a TV anymore, she could catch Gremlins 2 on cable and finally wrap her head around what makes for truly endearing art.
682002, dude, Gremlins 2 was a quality film.
Posted by Fructose Soda, Fri Jul-11-14 01:06 PM
I'll even go so far as to say it was just as much a classic as the first Gremlins.
Very entertaining, it was.
681972, Grandma took me to see Mars Attacks
Posted by Playa_Politician, Thu Jul-10-14 11:38 PM
She barely speaks any English I remember leaving the theater and she was wondering WTF she just saw.

Moms took me to the theater one day to see Street Fighter, that was the last time she took to me the movies.

When i was in elementary school i really liked Van Damme flicks, made my dad take me to watch Sudden Death. I loved it (still do), he hated it.
681980, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey

Karate Kid 3
681982, You take that back!!
Posted by Af-1, Fri Jul-11-14 05:22 AM
Karate Kid 3 is awesome!

"Ok lose to opponent, must not lose to fear!"
682005, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey was cheesy, but in a funny way
Posted by Fructose Soda, Fri Jul-11-14 01:14 PM
The grim-reaper/death character was funny.
Plus, the soundtrack was fuckin awesome. (Megadeth, Faith No More, etc).
682012, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey is one of the best sequels ever made.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Jul-11-14 02:26 PM
No exaggeration.
682067, Most definitely!!

Posted by Af-1, Fri Jul-11-14 05:23 AM
Haven't seen it in... I can't think how long it's been but is it generally not considered good?
681991, it's horrible. although shout out to pre-Friends Courtney Cox in it.
Posted by celery77, Fri Jul-11-14 09:25 AM
but yeah, a horrible, horrible movie, that one...
682006, a Dolph Lundren lookalike was signing autographs when my mom took me
Posted by Fructose Soda, Fri Jul-11-14 01:19 PM
I was 8 years old.
At that age, its not hard to razzle dazzle a boy.
Yes, in hindsight, the movie was awful (the little that I remember).

681989, I regret my parents taking me to see Species when I was 7.
Posted by Lardlad95, Fri Jul-11-14 08:50 AM
Jesus Christ was a fucking terrible movie. The only redeeming quality was that Forest Whitaker didn't die. I mean sure as a 7 year old it was cool to see a naked woman, but it didn't help that she immediately ate the muthafucker after she got done giving him a blow job. Talk about nightmares.

I don't know what the fuck my parents were thinking.

Also, I wasn't there for this, but my brother experienced my nephew's last kid movie. The boy begged him to go see the third Alvin and the Chimpmunks movie, and then my brother watched the boy slowly figure out the deviousness of Hollywood marketing schemes.

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts..." -The Bard
682008, the 1980s were full of awful movies. bless my momma.
Posted by Fructose Soda, Fri Jul-11-14 01:39 PM
Critters 2.
Troll. (that musical sequence where they break into song. WTF?)
Garbage Pail Kids.
Big Top Pee-Wee. (absolutely nothing like the brilliant Pee-Wee's Big Adventure).
Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo
.............and ovcourse, those damn Care Bears.
682069, Breaking 2? I'll fight you, lol
Posted by astralblak, Sun Jul-13-14 11:22 AM

682253, you tried watching it right now, as an adult????

And bless my grandpa's heart, for watching Batman Returns with me every Sunday, in an attempt to be kid friendly.
682015, Asked pops to take me to see CB4 when I was like 12
Posted by wallysmith, Fri Jul-11-14 02:34 PM
That was a mistake, lol

682017, Superman 4...Return to Oz..
Posted by Calico, Fri Jul-11-14 02:52 PM
most kiddie stuff i watched on video...it was easier for everybody and i didn't care...
682115, Surely Return to Oz isn't considered a bad film?!
Posted by Af-1, Mon Jul-14-14 09:01 AM
Surely, I say.
682025, RE: Movies you regret forcing your parents to take you to
Posted by go mack, Fri Jul-11-14 08:53 PM
I didn't do that to my parents too much but had an older brother I got to take me instead

I recall my mom taking me to Superman III and she was not impressed. I thought it was awesome at the time, now tend to agree with her aside from junkyard scene which is still awesome

Mega Force maybe the worst movie I saw in the theater, with my bro. I don't remember it at all really, just thinking the vehicles looked cool at the time and I was into Knight Rider and stuff like that

On another note, I took my son to Green Lantern and I regret that completely lol
682033, my parents suffered at the drive in
Posted by JiggysMyDayJob, Sat Jul-12-14 02:26 AM
matter fact I think we left cause a movie was so bad.

No Holds Barred
Suburban Commando
Mom and David Save the Universe (fucking Jon Lovitz)

682063, Superman IV
Posted by shockzilla, Sun Jul-13-14 05:38 AM
I regretted it even then, but now?

My poor parents.
682071, Krull
Posted by KwesiAkoKennedy, Sun Jul-13-14 12:29 PM
Me and my brother were amped for that movie. By the end, movie headaches for everyone. We both apologized to my dad for making him sit through it as we walked out the theatre.
682165, Really? My dad thought Krull was great
Posted by JiggysMyDayJob, Mon Jul-14-14 04:47 PM
Great enough that he had it on VHS and used to have us watch that and the Star Wars Trilogy when we were kids.

I think it suffered because of Star Wars.

I hope we're talking about the same film and not Kevin Sorbo's Kull, that movie was garbage.
682167, ^^^
Posted by mrhood75, Mon Jul-14-14 06:09 PM
Went to that one with my younger brother and mother. We walked out about an hour in.
682259, Kull or Krull

needless to say I was never allowed to choose the movie again.

In my defense, it was the second feature of a double bill. I think the first was Paper Moon but it might have been Harold & Maude.
