up further in this thread (and others) i had hoped (admitedly understanding all the while that it was highly UNlikely)...but still i had HOPED for this Marvel universe to be set in the 70s...

while the Netflix series probably wont be...

this pre-netflix plan woulda done it....damn!!! this woulda been exactly what i wanted! how did i not know of this until now??

Check out the draft of the proposal trailer in the link below...hell yeah..!

http://www.denofgeek.us/movies/daredevil/235389/joe-carnahan-reveals-more-about-his-daredevil-movie

"Joe Carnahan came very close to rebooting Daredevil, and he had a very specific vision for the trilogy.

Joe Carnahan was once the man to direct Daredevil. When Fox was looking to reboot Daredevil after years of trying to figure out what to do after the Ben Affleck film, Joe Carnahan came in and pitched a slightly different take on things, one which would have certainly distinguished itself from the parade of other superhero movies out there.

Mr. Carnahan envisioned Daredevil as a more low-budget, violent film set in the golden-age of martial arts and revenge movies: the 1970s. He even created a sizzle reel outlining his proposed aesthetic for the film. It's fantastic. Watch it here, and then read the biggest revelation of all about his Daredevil reboot!

In an interview with Movie Pilot, Mr. Carnahan reveals even more of his plans for Daredevil, including the fact that it was an intended trilogy.

What people don’t realize about the DD project is that the producers of the film, got to me very late. They had a script that I read and I thought that while the action was wonderful, the story didn’t really have any additional bite. There was nothing. I suggested a trilogy as follows. ‘Daredevil ‘73’ ‘Daredevil ‘79’ and ‘Daredevil ‘85’ where I was going to do a kind of ‘cultural libretto’ and make the music of those eras a kind of thematic arc. So the first one would be Classic Rock, the second one would be Punk Rock and the third film would be ‘New Wave.’ The problem was, the option was almost set to lapse so we made an eleventh hour bid to Marvel to retain the rights for a bit longer so I could rework the script. Unfortunately, it just didn’t happen. Marvel wanted the rights back. I don’t blame them.

We kind of hope he gets another shot at the character. His recent TV work on episodes of The Blacklist have proven that he can translate the big action movie aesthetic well to the small screen, so perhaps Marvel will give him a call for a couple of episodes their upcoming Daredevil series that will run on Netflix.

UPDATED: Mr. Carnahan has also been chatting with the good folks at SlashFilm, who clearly also thought about the possibility of a Carnahan-directed episode of Drew Goddard's upcoming Daredevil series. The prospects don't sound good. "I don’t know because I had such a specific...But Drew’s a talented guy. I’m sure they’re gonna do something really interesting with that. And I’ll line up to see it. But in terms of, just because you get stuck on your own bullshit sometimes, it’s hard to divorce yourself."

That's disappointing, but can't say we blame him."

ahh well...maybe...just maybe... Marvel will use elements of this idea somehow in Netflix series....? one nostalgic dude can only dream....
