um the screenplay *WAS* fleshed out...in the original version called THE LOW DWELLER...

Scott Cooper got his hands on it, and cut out ALL the charater development.

the two screenplays (the original writer, Brad Ingelsby got a co-writer credit, but was magically and conveniently, nowhere to be found in the opening or closing credits...) are so vastly different it's astounding.

and yea, "The Low Dweller" was leaps and bounds better than Out Of The Furnace...
