646931, You niggas watching Orphan Black? No? Why the fuck not?
Posted by The DC Sniper, Mon Oct-20-14 11:49 AM
It's fucking incredible. Tatiana Maslany stars as a woman who witnesses someone who looks exactly like her jump in front of a train. She steals a handbag the deceased left behind on the platform, and assumes her identity, who she later finds out is a (possibly) crooked detective. At first you think it's some long lost twins shit, but pretty soon you realize there's a supernatural element at play, and that's all I'll say about that. Just stop reading this and watch the show. LOL at her learning to speak American in ten minutes. Oh, and her scumbag ex-boyfriend looks like Jim Jones
647015, It's all kind of silly
Posted by SoulHonky, Mon Apr-15-13 01:35 AM
I knew the premise of the show so the reveal wasn't a surprise to me. She learns things quickly all the time and most of the episodes have dragged for me. The reveal of the threat is going to keep me around for another episode though.

I was on board since it started airing a couple months ago.

Tatiana is fantastic in this role!

I'm with Patton Oswalt and Shawn Ryan when they both said that the Emmy just needs to be HANDED TO HER.

I mean, who's fucking with her performance on this show this year?

NO ONE.

She should have at least gotten a nomination for her work. She does a great job with the different personalities and mannerisms as well as the accents. Here is a cool video explaining how they film the multiple characters Maslany plays in the same scene.

656600, Finished the first season. It's a TV show.
Posted by IkeMoses, Wed Jul-24-13 04:29 PM
It's not very smart.

And it's tonally uneven.

Tropes galore.

They never get into anything remotely existential, which you would hope to get a little bit from a show about clones.

Tatiana is great still, but her talent is being wasted.

I'll watch next season, though. Because compulsion.
656630, damn agree completely--
Posted by bloocollar, Wed Jul-24-13 09:03 PM
its uneven as hell

about halfway through i was like man fuck this shit

then i gave it another chance and dug it a bit more

its a solid premise they just have to tighten up the execution

on second viewing of the show, I agree with this.

the execution is sloppy. But, I chalk that up to it being the first season and I assume this was address leading up to shooting season 2 (which starts in September).

Or, I hope. because that ALONE will determine how good or how bad season 2 is....

different people while you're watching the show is what makes it great. you never really think about them as the same person pretending to be someone else while you're watching...it really feels like there's a bunch of her in it. that's what's so dope about it. isolating each performance seems kinda silly...it's the sum of those parts that is impressive.

The costuming covers that. Other than two, they all have different hair. Like when they did the old switcheroo there was nothing telling that they were playing each other except that they were dressed in each others clothes.

I mean don't get me wrong, I don't really fault it, but it occurred to me, that she's not really a strong actor in any of the roles , but the sum of them makes them a strong role for her. The main character is her strongest role, the others are pretty much caricatures which are enough degrees from the main character to treat them isolated. The redhead, german and college girl are pretty much horrible, and make it obvious. Main character and the housewife are her at her best, and play the best on screen together.

I think she's done a fine job at playing five/six different characters. I do feel like they're different characters. They do need to improve the character development of the other clones besides Sarah, but I like her performance. It's not easy what she's doing.
658368, fucking great show

her ability to play so many different, interesting characters is great.

love her sidekick also.

658739, not bad...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Thu Aug-22-13 05:55 AM
..could be better

the premise is solid, but the writing is thin. the best thing about that is that you can always improve the writing.

tatiana maslany is a pretty good lead, and kicking ass playing so many different characters. this has to be every actors dream of an opportunity to show range.

the only serious misteps of the show:

- why base it in america?
- the logic vs emotion aspect is extremely unbalanced and heavy handed.

"Orphan Black is shot on location in Toronto, Canada. While this is apparent from details such as cars with Ontario license plates, Beth's Ontario driving licence, the color of currency, and a plane ticket in the pilot episode identifying Toronto's Pearson International Airport, Graeme Manson said that the setting is deliberately ambiguous. "It’s meant to be Generica. It’s part of the price you pay for this kind of co-production."
668656, Just started watching this and it's pretty decent
Posted by Grand_Royal, Tue Dec-17-13 04:12 PM
Some of it is a bit silly, like her learning a N. American accent from a Vine clip, but I like the premise. I'll keep watching for now because the lead is good and I'm curious about the experiment.

I'm on the 3rd ep.
687332, Watched both seasons in the last 2 weeks
Posted by John Forte, Mon Oct-20-14 11:43 AM
for the first 3-4 eps, I thought it was interesting, if not a little silly. By the end of the first season, I thought it was legitimately good. After Season two, I'm back to my original stance. This show needs a definitive timetable. If they commit to wrapping the story in another 1 or two seasons, it has the chance to be great.
687401, They definitely need to tighten up the story arc
Posted by nipsey, Tue Oct-21-14 09:43 AM
What is the end game here? For both sides? Does Sarah want to take down the company? Does the company want to make more clones? What is the goal? Why doesn't Sarah just leave town? Why does she stick around with her kid waiting to be kidnapped every other episode?

I like the show too and Tatian's performance(s) is amazing. But they really need to figure out what they are trying to do with this narrative.

This was a great show. I'm going to call it over now. I don't care about any of the mysteries they left behind and while it's entirely possible they can reset with a whole new premise/threat and maintain the same energy....

There's toooooooooooooooooooooo many clones already. Introducing new ones would be bad. Not introducing new ones still leaves too many of them. And focusing on just a couple is a sharp departure from what made the show work IMO.

Get that money, but yeah...

Wait til next year. It's reportedly the last season too. The way they crammed all that shit in this season, its going to be a mess wrapping it all up in 10 more EPs. Like I said its entertaining but all over the place.

I mean seriously think of all the new stories this season. Duko and Evie were built up just to die. Krystal became 'important'. Felix's sister was introduced just to be sent away. MK is finna die then not mentioned for three EPs.You get Evie's second hand being an integral player at the end. Fucking immortal Percival hiding out in the bush around the corner from the lair. Charollette is just there as another potential death in waiting. Delphine waking up from the dead. Meanwhile house wife and hubby are hanging out eating roadkill with ol girl prego with twins. Not to mention her frozen eggs buried in their flower garden. And if Sarah tells Kira she'll be right back again Imma stab something. Oh and what happened to her Alaskan boyfriend?

Shit's an entertaining mess. No way around that.

Very pleasant ending. Each season has had its own focus. I'm gonna miss Delphine. I love how she was always playing for team ambiguous. This was the season of Helena. Every time she was on screen the show turned into 5th gear. Allison's foray into the drug game was pretty funny too. The absurdity of suburbia. As long as they don't make the same mistake as Continuum where they lost train of their own writing.

..i liked Del too, but we knew she was a goner once she gave that speech to ole girl...pretty strong season...if my count is right, ALL the brother clones are dead except the one we know of.... i like how they tied the familial aspect of the show together...anyway, that ep felt like a series finale to me, and i wouldn't be mad if it was....

http://ew.com/tv/2017/02/07/orphan-black-season-5-premiere/

Prepare your goodbyes, sestras: Orphan Blackβ€˜s final season has a premiere date.

BBC America announced Tuesday the sci-fi dramaβ€˜s fifth season will launch on Saturday, June 10 at 10 p.m. ET.

Additionally, BBC America revealed Tatiana Maslany, who won her first Emmy for fronting the show as several Leda clones in September, will join the full cast for a panel discussion at PaleyFest on Thursday, March 23 in Los Angeles. Jordan Gavaris (Felix), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Mrs. S), Kristian Bruun (Donnie), Kevin Hanchard (Detective Art Bell), Evelyne Brochu (Delphine), Ari Millen (Ira and Castor clones), and Maslany’s acting double, Kathryn Alexandre, will appear alongside the actress, as will series co-creator and writer, Graeme Manson.

Last June, the network confirmed the cult hit would conclude with season 5.

β€œWe are excited to deliver an epic conclusion to the tale of Sarah and her clone sisters,” co-creators John Fawcett and Manson previously said in a joint statement. β€œThe past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show. We are thankful to our partners at Temple Street, and to BBC America and Space for their support and giving us the opportunity to end on a high.

for the folks that are watching the last season, what do you all think of the death count for this season so far? While I suppose the creators for the show are tying to stress the point that one can't mess with nature and not get adverse results, the number of main characters getting killed off this season has been nutty. Have to wonder how many will go out in the last upcoming episode.

I hope Tatiana Maslany (sp?) gets more work after this show is all wrapped up; it crazy the amount of heavy lifting she's been doing this season alone.
