this should be interesting...I wonder what will be introduced here:

1 - Derek Reese?

2 - Time travel?

3 - Arnold's face supposedly is in the flick
438745, Really? Wow?
Posted by box, Wed Mar-04-09 10:26 PM
Not that I'm hatin'. It looks to be a perfectly fine movie, but that was just a trailer. Somewhere else I came across this tremendous enthusiasm and a link. I thought I was looking at the wrong trailer because it wasn't all that exciting, but it was the one linked here.

I do like that it wasn't so quick-cutty, the trailer felt more cohesive and story oriented than your average trailer, but I didn't find it terribly exciting.

Perhaps it's because I have generally high expectations for this anyway and that the trailer presents what looks to be a good movie isn't a surprise.

I guess if I was thinking it was going to be crap, I'd say "wow."

I don't know. It's a'ight.

box
438769, You had high expectations after Terminator 3?
Posted by Wrongthink, Wed Mar-04-09 11:55 PM
For a movie with Common in it directed by Mc-fucking-G? Why?
439549, I conveniently missed T3
Posted by box, Sat Mar-07-09 11:11 PM
I did see some early episodes of The Sarah Connor Chronicles and found it to be bad in too many ways. I know that's not the general consensus and it could have even developed to a point where I'd like it. But the point is, not even that lowered my expectations; my expectations have always been based on the potential of the series, not on the flubs along the way.

I guess for me, it comes from the fact that after I saw T2, my immediate observation was that the next movie needs not to have any time travel at all, it should just be set in the future and be a futuristic war movie.

In my mind, this is the movie that T3 should have been (TSCC didn't need to "be" at all). That they are finally making the right movie, and with Christian Bale at that, gives me my high expectations. McG certainly is a sticking point, but I would have though Bryan Singer would do a bang-up Superman movie. After that, it'll be a little while before I can expect any director to automatically meet their hyped expectations (success or failure).

439809, Sarah Chronicles is dope.

Posted by Justin_Maldonado_7, Thu Mar-12-09 07:49 PM
if there is time gap...there is potential good story...

T3 was horrible...

TSCC is everything T3 should have been...

We went from Connor the embryo...to Connor the kid...to Connor becoming a soldier..

the character development in a tv series is much slower than a movie..but when done right, is much more effective...

Thomas Dekker is so far the best pre-nuclear John Connor...

440713, It was the little things
Posted by box, Fri Mar-13-09 12:12 AM
Not trying to be argumentative here, because, as I've said, I haven't followed the show much. While I did find the John Connor goes to school bit a little Dawson's Creekish--I would have much rather seen him learning how to use a machine gun in Nicaragua--it was the small details that bugged the bejesus out of me. I won't make some long list, I'll take one representative example:

Mama Connor running out to buy mobile phones for the family.

I shook my head like an etch-a-sketch and was like, what in the holy hell is she doing? That's Skynet!

Now, I understand that the Sarah Connor from T2 had to regain some of her humanity, particularly to be the Sarah Connor from the Chronicles, but she wouldn't become stupid! The thing she is trying to foil is the massive global communications network that is sending, from the future, assassin robots to kill her and the only hope for humanity, and she's going to purchase for herself and her son a direct connection to the massive global communications network? A device that, if not equipped with GPS, can at least be used to triangulate their positions within a few blocks so long as it's turned on? Not to mention this network's potential ability to monitor their plans through saved voice message and text message and possibly even live voice? Even if she knows Skynet doesn't technically exist yet, there is a reasonable enough chance that once Skynet comes online, it will have access to at least some of these records that can then be used as information to pinpoint her locations and movements in the past to better target her and her son for termination.

And even if that scenario is a little far fetched, is she really going to take a chance with the survival of humanity for the sake of the convenience of a cell phone? For T2 Sarah Connor, the answer is an unequivocal "hell to the no!" She was way smarter than that, even at her most paranoid delusional (which we all know wasn't paranoid delusion at all, she always had her head on straight). I absolutely couldn't buy into her turning all stupid and trusting of technology. The had the best reason in the world to play Luddite.

It's a small detail, but it is so fundamental to the entire premise of the character and the show and they futzed it up.

That and much more is why I wrote that show off early.

440944, As usual, the T3 hate is overwhelming...
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Mar-14-09 05:02 PM
...when in fact, due to the datedness of the first one, and due to the bullshit Spielberg-wannabe boy-and-his-robot "why do people cry?" subplot of the second one, T3 is the film of this series thus far that best stands the test of time. The ending is fantastic, the acting good all around, and while the chick is no Robert Patrick, she does a very good job as well.
440948, Yep!

440981, Transformers had fucking cool action too. Still not a great movie.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Mar-14-09 11:43 PM
You're allowed to admit that T2 has about 30 minutes of boring cliched garbage boy-and-his-robot shit weighing the film as a whole down... and still think Robert Patrick is the best villain and the action is dope.
441013, T2 had fucking cool action where you could see what was goin on

You're also allowed to admit that Claire Danes & Nick Stahl weigh T3 down the whole time they're on screen. Not to mention the fact that Ah-nulds one liners get played so bad they become cringe worthy.
441030, Disagree on all your points.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Mar-15-09 02:38 PM
I could see everything, I thought Stahl was terrific, I usually hate Danes and I thought she fit the role well, and Arnold's one-liners are even more cringe-worthy in T2. "Why do you cry?" *shudders*
440982, T3 was a fun-ass flick to watch

440997, patently absurd.

441028, only if you saw the trilogy in reverse order
Posted by will_5198, Sun Mar-15-09 02:27 PM
I've come to like the original the best...had the best story, despite the antiquated effects (of which are only bothersome at the end)
441031, I can see that. The storytelling is really strong in the first.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Mar-15-09 02:40 PM
T2 is just so long and so weighed down... I actually think if people let go of nostalgia, they would stop putting it on these "best action movie ever" lists. I'd put it on "best villain lists" for sure... but it's got a LOT of shit I prefer to fast forward through.
441046, the parts with Ed Furlong are horrificly bad.
Posted by will_5198, Sun Mar-15-09 04:11 PM
I think one could even argue Arnold was a better villain than Patrick -- just because the original was set up more like a thriller (woman and man versus indestructible machine) compared to the sequel (indestructible machine versus more indestructible machine).

the action and CGI still hold up pretty well in T2, tho. and the nostalgia from being 8-years-old is hard to break...I'm sure everyone is guilty of it in some retrospect.
441136, Oh, no doubt Cameron can stage some mean action.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Mar-16-09 12:42 AM
And he's always been on the cutting edge technologically speaking... few directors actually use special effects to further the storytelling better than he does, if any.

But yeah, it's real hard to not fast forward nowadays when watching it.

Nostalgia is hard to kill-- it's probably why I immediately just assumed Robert Patrick was the best villain without even letting Arnold in the original cross my mind, lol. I had nightmares about that giant silver motherfucker.
441032, The one where the terminator makes her tits grow? That one?
