388118, let's recast the joker (aka dear mr. nolan, do NOT rewrite batman 3) Posted by theprofessional, Mon Jul-21-08 02:01 PM
ledger's performance was iconic and oscar-worthy, but just because dude died doesn't mean he gets to take the joker with him. i for one, would love to see screen tests for the following actors:
ryan gosling
take his performance from the believer, mix in a little lars and you've already got the beginnings of a great joker. my wife says johnny depp, and i agree he'd be great as well. the point is, ledger's performance will likely never be topped, but then again does it really need to be? the movies aren't about the joker, they're about batman (and even the role of batman has been recast several times). even if someone brings 90% of what ledger did to batman 3, it'll still be a good enough and probably great enough performance for a comic book movie. so there's really no need for the nolans to write the best character of the new batman series out of the films forever. it's a nice show of reverence to heath's performance, but really a little ridiculous. ledger raised the bar, but let's not cancel the olympics.

388128, Ben Foster Posted by SoulHonky, Mon Jul-21-08 02:17 PM
I still see him as the classic film villain of his generation. I like Gosling but I see him more as a Batman than Joker.

388150, you could have Jack play the Jokers long lost drunk uncle. Posted by Oakley, Mon Jul-21-08 02:48 PM
|
388162, The name Crispin Glover was mentioned after a viewing of TDK Posted by emeyesi, Mon Jul-21-08 03:05 PM
I'd love to see him in the mix. I'm not so sure about him playing Joker...but possibly someone else.
|
388191, i thought about it, but he seems like he'd pass on it. oo mainstream? Posted by Doc Maestro, Mon Jul-21-08 03:47 PM

388200, Dude was in Epic Movie Posted by SoulHonky, Mon Jul-21-08 04:04 PM
I think he'd be fine with getting to play the Joker.

388225, So he only does lame mainstream movies? Posted by SoulHonky, Mon Jul-21-08 04:41 PM
He must be pissed he missed out on Grindhouse.
|
388163, Someone older Posted by OldPro, Mon Jul-21-08 03:07 PM
Because I really think the sequel should take place 15-20 years after TDK. That's the only way you can bring in another joker and make it work even half way. __________________________________ http://reunionradio.blogspot.com/ July Artist of the Month: The Jackson Family

Most people scoffed at Ledger's casting, originally.

I'd be interested in seeing him.

388202, CO-SIGN!! Posted by sevencents, Mon Jul-21-08 04:08 PM
I was saying this to my friends after leaving the theater watching Dark Knight...
nothing could even come close to Ledger's performance....but I think that Franco could capture the off-beat and craziness of the Joker as well as the voice.
that said, I hope that the Joker isn't in the 3rd flick...but returns in the 4th

the story change if he aint workin with the commish no more.
|
388234, I could see Edward Norton, but only if they try to recapture Posted by lexx3001, Mon Jul-21-08 04:55 PM
only if they try to recapture Ledger's Joker. Meaning, rather than getting someone who will give a different feel for the Joker, I feel like Ed Norton is the only one who can recapture the same character. He is a great character actor and his acting style is very fitting, IMO
|
388263, I can picture Depp with that same Andy Dick-like voice Ledger had Posted by Oak27, Mon Jul-21-08 05:25 PM
Much like he had in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
|
388264, NO Depp or Glover Posted by ternary_star, Mon Jul-21-08 05:29 PM
i couldn't picture either of them playing it real/dark enough to fit into the world Nolan's established.
Ledger set the precedent of playing The Joker is a cold-blooded psychopath, not an eccentric loon.

388498, Glover could have the look.....but not the voice. Posted by KnowOne, Tue Jul-22-08 07:56 AM

388463, Philip Semour Hoffman Posted by the_one, Tue Jul-22-08 02:45 AM
Of course he'd have to loose some weight.
|
388713, ^^^^^^^^^thinking outside the box Posted by theprofessional, Tue Jul-22-08 04:13 PM
brilliant. i don't even think he has to lose weight. PSH could be what happens to the joker after rotting in jail for a few years. older, fatter, a little slower, but twice as crazy. that would be dope.
|
388849, yeah I want to see that Posted by Warp and Woof, Wed Jul-23-08 01:54 AM
and I haven't even seen Ledger's performance yet.

389121, i don't know how the look would work.... Posted by SammyJankis, Wed Jul-23-08 10:55 PM
but he is another actor that is known to get deep into the psyche of the character he portrays and gets lost in the role. i think that he was be good as a actor but the look and the voice is sketchy.

absolutely could see him bringing it. very underrated actor.

388966, RE: i like this pick Posted by PinPoint, Wed Jul-23-08 01:27 PM
JG-L has chops, and we'll see how good he does as a lead villain as Cobra Commander in next summer's GI Joe.

388651, i'd give him a read at least Posted by justin_scott, Tue Jul-22-08 02:00 PM
he's got the perfect voice for it.
|
388558, There's ONE reason that this is possible artistically speaking. Posted by theeraser, Tue Jul-22-08 11:09 AM
We're talking about a character who wore face paint at all times. As people said, you didn't feel like you were looking at Ledger, you felt like you were looking at the Joker.
As good as Heath was, I think that fact makes a recasting (which would have to be perfect, obviously) just this side of possible artistically.
|
388561, The voice really is the most important part. Posted by theeraser, Tue Jul-22-08 11:12 AM
Otherwise, I can see Depp. But just physically speaking, I don't think Depp's nicotine-damaged throat could pull off that voice.
|
388724, you're wrong....this movie was all about the joker Posted by undeniable, Tue Jul-22-08 04:32 PM
it'll be the equivalent of putting kobe in the sixth man spot
|
388797, Extend that... Posted by box, Tue Jul-22-08 08:40 PM
...half of Batman, at least, is his Rogue's Gallery. So I have to take exception with the idea that the movie is about Batman. Batman is reflected through the villains around him.
That said, while Heath Ledger's performance was unfukwitable, I can't swear it's the definitive Joker (so far). I will not sleep on Mark Hamill in the animated series. I think he might have been the first performer to truly nail the Joker.

388808, BOOM - Nick Stahl Posted by l i f e, Tue Jul-22-08 09:25 PM
Definitely has the sinister smile for it
*edit* - I think he can pull off the voice too, no problem

if anything i could see him if they did a riddler.
