Would this be the one based off of the Charnas book Quest was attached to?
3042379, Nope

The Legacy of J Dilla isn’t the only film on the late beat wizard on the horizon. Former collaborator Questlove is executive producing a documentary called Dilla Time, adapted from Dan Charnas’ acclaimed 2022 biography Dilla Time: The Life and Afterlife of J Dilla, The Hip Hop Producer Who Reinvented Rhythm.

Co-directed by Summer of Soul producer Joseph Patel and Darby Wheeler, the doc “will be part biography, part musicology, and part musical meditation,” according to a press release, and is being produced in cooperation with Dilla’s estate.
3042452, I wonder if that’s why there was quest, tip, com or busta outside of

I had to come back here to make sure I knew what it was called.

I had a lil’ nerd chuckle when they said Amp taught him how to use the MP, and they showed one of the newer ones.

This was really good though. I can only hope Dilla Time is something crazy.
3042467, I don't know why this part annoyed me so much

They even through a fake VHS filter on the video for effect. smh
3042480, Took me 10 minutes to find it, and that's with knowing the doc's name

Well done, recommend checking it out. His mothers words are heartbreaking indeed. Though I knew he did a great deal of the Ummah stuff, this doc. made it sound like it was pretty much all him...curious about the accuracy of that portion...
3042469, it was good

if you're a big Dilla fan there probably wasn't much new here. Hopefully people who don't know much about him will watch and learn, though I do wish they had gone more into detail about what made his production style different.
3042474, Word!

That's my only fault with the doc. Jeff tried to explain, but it didn't quite land.
3042475, I thought it was good if not rushed a little

Idk, in my mind feels like a 3-parter, 1 hour each episode would have been perfect:

-Childhood/early career/maybe first Slum stuff
-Ummah era and the pros and cons of that arrangement/growing success as an in demand producer/MCA deal/dive into his production style
-post MCA deal/Stonesthrow/passing away/influence afterwards

Still very worth a watch, good production values, his mother was clearly involved, but definitely looking to see how ?uest approaches his documentary for Dilla.

3042481, Robert Glasper doing a Busta impression cracked me up

I haven't read Dilla Time yet, so I don't know how much of this that repeated. But it was a decent enough intro was some solid film footage.

Also, it was interesting to see who is clearly just going to be talking Quest for the seperate Dilla Time adaptation documentary. They just had archival footage of Q-Tip and Busta being interviewed, and it looked like Common talked to them for like 2 minutes via Zoom.
