He didn’t see enough in it to keep it for himself?

I assume it would’ve been a bigger hit if he had delivered it himself.

I can’t front on that video tho! Everyone involved knew they had a jam on their hands.
3013942, I was like 8 but I remember people thinking it was him at first
Posted by OKdamn, Wed Feb-13-19 08:36 AM
Which it was but nobody knew it. So when they saw it wasn't him people thought it was a rip off, but it wasn't.
3013943, It didnt fit what he had going on at the time
Posted by tully_blanchard, Wed Feb-13-19 10:35 AM
It didnt fit the ATWIAD sound...and Parade was such a thought out project (movie and album) that Screams of Passion didn't fit those plans...but it was perfect for that time...so it had to get out some kinda way.

I must of made my girl listen to this song at least 3 times in a row..then I played The Who's "See Me Feel Me" repeatedly. I don't know how she deals with it. At least I torture people with good shit.
3013949, hrm....

the video:
1. Jerome look extra-extra-extra saucy

2. the quintessential of the 80s style green-screening (this joint fits well with MJ video like "can u feel it" and "rock with you" and the greatest 80s-chees-video of all time "Don't Look Any Further" by the late great Flash, I mean Dennis Edwards

the song itself
1. i know what was going on (spreading the brand and getting your 5-Horseman On forthwith), but I would have MUCH rather this have been a song Prince did himself instead of the other side of his "Family". Its like the difference between good red Kool-Aid and cherry flavored Milk-of-Magnesia

2. I wish the hi-hat/rimshot clicks were a little sharper (more pronounced)

3. I like the symphonic strings as a backdrop, but I always wondered if they too could have been brought forward (pushing the drum programming back a bit) and made this a little more "sometimes it snows..." (as opposed to being a bit dated, but still jammin')

Have you seen Under The Cherry Moon? Jerome IS extra extra saucy lol

Yeah the video is bizarre. I don't know what they were going for and I bet MTV barely played it. I'm willing to guess that the whole thing was dictated second by second by you know who.

I think he was such a workhorse that he probably did want the song for himself, but he had more fun playing with his puppets (for lack of a better word.)

A lot of 85 productions have a shitty sound but at least things were sounding better than the muddy stuff that 84 produced imo.

I actually think the opposite..the strings are up a tad too loud but that's me.
3013953, another: this is very much a soundalike to 17 days

hence the 3rd extra

I legit think this was an attempt to see if people would buy more into a white (less ethnic looking) version of himself

I would've just liked to see if a less electronic version would have changed it into a softer cut
3013952, I remember this song playing on the road
Posted by Lil Rabies, Wed Feb-13-19 04:13 PM
on a trip to DC from Baltimore. Radio was so dope back then. The song is awesome.
