3011354, Masta Ace & Marco Polo - A Breukelen Story
Posted by rhymesandammo, Fri Nov-09-18 04:51 PM
Only ran this joint once but it's probably the best Masta Ace record since A Long Hot Summer. Dude is 53 and still sounds as fresh as he ever has. Anyone else peep this yet?
3011356, this is great, maybe AOTY contender to me
Posted by mista k5, Fri Nov-09-18 05:17 PM
im not huge on masta ace or marco polo but this album was great to me.
3011357, very solid album
Posted by justin_scott, Fri Nov-09-18 06:09 PM
nothing classic, but nothing bad either. masta ace sounds great on this.
3011358, I'm about five or six songs in. Good so far.

3011363, He's 53 !!
Posted by Brew, Fri Nov-09-18 08:47 PM
I shouldn't be surprised cause of how long he's been around but ... 53 !! Damn.

I met him in Boston a couple summers ago, my friend interviewed him for a blog he was doing at the time. He's a real nice dude.

>Dude is 53 and still sounds as
>fresh as he ever has.
3011371, Ace turns 52 in December...

...seems like just yesterday he was rapping "im just a hop skip and jump from 30" on that Saukrates joint called "rollin"

3011372, Putting my comments from GD in here

I've been counting down the days to this since Breukelen came out and this is WELL worth the wait.

Kind of wish there was one last song after the "Moms(Skit)". On Spotify, the album goes right into the Breukelen single so maybe a Breukelen Remix because the beat is SO dope and the story could use a real 'he made it' moment to wrap up the story. It's also the second song on the album and a remix w/ dope bk features (actual Smif-n-Wessun verses?) would serve as a great bookend.

So many dope joints on this and it works seamlessly start to finish

This is about to get continuous burn
3011472, I thought so too but...

I kinda like how you could hear "Nostalgia" in the background so it kind of serves a lead-in to everything the two have don since that song.

Fantastic album though, Ace does not dissapoint...ever.

I have an idea for a concept album that would be perfect for Ace...very tempted to write a treatment and forward it to him...
3011374, I was made a fan again listening to 'A Long Hot Summer'
Posted by EAS, Sat Nov-10-18 02:37 PM
and 'Disposable Arts' 10 years after it dropped. I even went on to check out the EMC joints. He brings that familiar feeling of good hip hop without sounding too dated. I loved the NPR tiny desk performance.
I am excited for the new project.
3011378, This is fantastic

Smooth ass butter Hip Hop Masta Ace style. Listened to it in the whip, the beats go. Masta Ace sounds like the vet he is. 50+ and his cadence is impeccable. I'm starting to really enjoy how some of my favorite emcess are sounding as time goes on.

werd.
3011384, This is so good.

I could do without the skits, but everything else is spot on.
3011394, the skits are vintage Ace tho
Posted by spitfire, Sun Nov-11-18 01:46 PM
it ties the record together in a way Disposable Arts was.

its a good way to pull the producer into the narrative
3011389, Shit got me excited to clean the house today
Posted by navajo joe, Sun Nov-11-18 09:43 AM
3011414, Yeah this is great
Posted by Kosa12, Sun Nov-11-18 10:43 PM
easily his best since A Long Hot Summer. Ace and Polo have great chemistry.
3011422, The Fight Song is TOUGH
Posted by Nabs, Mon Nov-12-18 06:38 AM
Monch and Ace going at it. I don't think you could find a more perfect MC to bring it to life like that.
3011442, RE: The Fight Song is TOUGH
Posted by spidey, Mon Nov-12-18 03:14 PM
No doubt...heartfelt ish, and the low-key, almost grinding his teeth while rhyming effort by Monch is just some other shit...
3011456, I love this album. Best thing Ace has done since A Long Hot Summer
Posted by BNueve, Tue Nov-13-18 06:27 AM
I did like Son Of Yvonne a lot too though. Ace sounds sharp on this.
3011464, album of the year quite easily for me...
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Tue Nov-13-18 10:19 AM
...this record is everything i thought a full LP from them would be ..amazing

3011475, RE: album of the year quite easily for me...
Posted by spidey, Tue Nov-13-18 03:14 PM
It's up there, at least Hip Hop wise...Ace is top ten all time, and this joint just solidifies it...
3011489, Damn good
Posted by Soulroe, Tue Nov-13-18 11:34 PM
3011531, This lil Fame joint sounds like vintage Beatnuts...
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Thu Nov-15-18 09:14 AM
...I fucking love this album ...Man Code is some instant classic shit too ....Fight Song too ....entire LP bangs

3011532, This is a dope hip-hop album.
Posted by Anonymous, Thu Nov-15-18 10:09 AM
Every track bangs.

Yes, the skits do suck this time around but they don’t detract from how dope the songs are.
3011625, It sucks that the modern climate lessens classics
Posted by Anonymous, Sun Nov-18-18 03:13 PM
The quality is still the same, and hip-hop heads know the deal, but it just sucks that albums like this don’t even have a chance to be mentioned among the classics.

If this dropped in 96-98 it would very much be seen as one of the dopest albums ever.

This shit is beautiful from top to bottom and imo Ace’s best album due to the fact there were always 1-2 joints I didn’t love on DA and LHS.

Marco is also a very underrated producer and he should be getting more props.

And fuck if it’s over a decade old, Nostalgia would’ve sounded dope as the last track on this album to bring it full circle.
3011629, I love Ace
Posted by spitfire, Sun Nov-18-18 06:49 PM
and this album is great

but in no era would this be viewed as one of the best ever.
cmon son...
3011634, ^^^point proven
Posted by Anonymous, Sun Nov-18-18 09:05 PM
3011630, REALLY clicked with me second time I listened to it
Posted by mrhood75, Sun Nov-18-18 06:59 PM
Was distracted the first time, so I didn't really peep what "Wanna Be" was able until the second time through. Not it's one of my favorites.

"Man Law," "Corporal Punishment," "Three," and "The Fight Song" are my other favorites.
3014286, holy shit i didnt realize this came out last year
Posted by Small Pro, Fri Mar-01-19 09:36 AM
dope ass album, ace still got it & mp kills the beats, best produced rap album i've heard in a lil while
