Albeit, those are the pre-order links for it, so unless the released version gets an alternate tracklisting, it looks like "Bubblin'" won't be on it.

Yeah, so weird. I was disappointed. I think it would be the best track on the album.

The Singles been luke warm
3011462, Who R U didn't move me
Posted by Hitokiri, Tue Nov-13-18 10:05 AM
They played Left to Right in an NBA video package and that it didn't move me.
I like Tints, but I understand being underwhelmed by that one too.

The album HAS to be better than these songs indicate, right?
3011482, HAS to be

>The album HAS to be better than these songs indicate, right?

I'm inclined to not listen to any more singles until the project drops and then just listen to it all in context

but this is LA (adjacent), so of course them tix are sold out

Just think it's dope he's doing this

especially considering this is the area hit by the Woolsey fire

Well done, homie.
3011604, My expectations were a little too high for this
Posted by spitfire, Sat Nov-17-18 02:42 PM
still really strong effort!

- Dre verse sounds so weird to me. Tip en Kenny kind of underwhelming
- He is spitting much more than i expected
- The singles work better in the context of the album
- Second half better
- Overall vibe is really upbeat and feel good
- Favorite: Saviers Road (9th with that Dre mix? pfff) and the beat switch on brother's keeper. Smile/Petty dope too

Feel like it might still grow on me a lot

Credits are pretty crazy (scroll down):

3011606, No Madlib?
Posted by Ishwip, Sat Nov-17-18 03:32 PM
From the credits he's not mentioned which is slightly disappointing since I know a few months back he was saying he had Madlib on here, even individual stems for Dre to mess around with.

Off first listen the album is good but not on part with Malibu.

3011674, This is good, but definitely a step below Malibu
Posted by Kosa12, Mon Nov-19-18 04:09 PM
He is definitely a better singer than rapper, yet here he seems to be more focused on the rapping aspect. Since Malibu (which I loved), I've thought that the strength of his craft primarily comes with his charisma, great voice and knack to write great melodie/his production - not necessarily his lyrics (even though I'm not saying he is a bad lyricist by any means). The album ends really poorly as well with the last two tracks. That said there is some real heat on here - "the chase" is some fantastic 70s blaxploitation sound track stuff (also Kadhja Bonet is the truth and you should check her out if you haven't). Snoop and Paak sound amazing on "Anywhere" - Snoop sounds like he was born to be over that track. "Smile / Pretty" is gorgeous and the portion of "6 Minutes" where he gets into gun control is great.
3011696, "Anywhere" reminds me of "Murder was the Case" era G-Funk.
Posted by Brew, Mon Nov-19-18 09:07 PM
Like it has the feel and vibe of a lot of work from the MWTC soundtrack. "21 Jumpstreet" comes to mind immediately, "Who Got Some Gangsta Shit ?" too to a lesser extent.
3012567, We ready to admit this shit sucks?
Posted by High Society, Fri Dec-14-18 10:03 PM
Not in the same league with Venice & Malibu.
3012569, Ha I think "sucks" is too strong but it's def not on Malibu level.
Posted by Brew, Sat Dec-15-18 12:22 AM
3012589, no way it "sucks"
Posted by Hellyeah, Sun Dec-16-18 10:54 AM
but of course it's no Malibu or Nxworries

it's a very nice out of season summer album...i think next july i'm going to give it a lot of spins
3012592, It's definitely a summer album.
Posted by phemom, Sun Dec-16-18 11:43 AM
This and Nipsey's album both should've dropped in June or July.

Unless it's Snoop or Dre west coast'ers shouldn't even drop in winter IMO.
3012595, Absolutely not
Posted by makaveli, Sun Dec-16-18 01:06 PM
Overall Malibu is better, but the best songs on Oxnard are better than the best songs on Malibu. At least I feel that way right now.
3013238, RE: Absolutely not
Posted by Dupree90, Tue Jan-15-19 12:17 PM
What are those songs you speak of?
3014164, I’ll retract that statement somewhat
Posted by makaveli, Sun Feb-24-19 10:32 AM
But to me Sweet Chick and Anywhere are up there with my favorite songs of his. I think Trippy is really dope too.
3012598, I don’t like anything as much as I like “Silicon Valley”
Posted by JFrost1117, Sun Dec-16-18 02:52 PM
3012617, It doesn't suck IMO but it is a predictable step down from Malibu/Yes Lawd
Posted by ramaj1, Mon Dec-17-18 12:43 AM
Let's be real, the one-two punch of Malibu and Yes Lawd would be a hard act to follow.

Especially when you finally got some money, a larger recording budget, more noterority, a major label deal, a mega-producer co-sign and loads of expectation placed upon you.

I'd give Oxnard a 7/10. It is not horrible by any means but is markedly less compelling than its predecessor. Not as many highlights either.
3012621, RE: We ready to admit this shit sucks?
Posted by jimaveli, Mon Dec-17-18 08:09 AM
>Not in the same league with Venice & Malibu.

I really like the stuff I like. I may never play the stuff I don’t like. But I do that sometimes. Malibu May end up being the best thing he ever does so I am not going to hold that against him.
3012751, LOL, i dont even listen to this shit anymore
Posted by GROOVEPHI, Thu Dec-20-18 09:32 AM
3012764, No, but it is the most disappointing album of 2018 for me
Posted by Ishwip, Thu Dec-20-18 07:08 PM
Doesn't mean it sucks overall, but I had high hopes for this and probably shouldn't have given the Dre, big label, he's kinda famous now reality.

Malibu, Venice, Nxworries are significantly better to me but I am happy for him in the sense that's he's a success now.

its good but really nothing great. there are great moments but not really a great song on it. a lot of good songs.

anywhere is probably my favorite song on there but i really wouldnt miss not hearing it again.
3012645, btw j cole's verse is dope and better than kendrick's
Posted by makaveli, Mon Dec-17-18 11:42 AM
3012686, Admission: I skip the first part of Six Summers every damn time.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Dec-17-18 06:44 PM
The second half is my favorite part of the whole album.

Then I like the q-tip track and the j cole track.

I liked tints as a pre album drop. Also dig the Snoop track as vintage snoop.

Other than that I am waiting for more to grow on me.

negative feedback about this album.
.Paak seems like a guy who thrives off the adoration, so I'm sure it's eating him up that Oxnard came and went so fast, didn't make any top albums lists. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a new album this year

Posted by bentagain, Wed Feb-27-19 07:09 PM
Oxnard was an easy fix with some trimming

I revisited recently, and it's not a bad album per se

But there are just full stops at certain points

in particular, the Dre jawns should've been cut from the album

Would've been a home run had he stayed in the 70s funk vibe of the first track...and carried that throughout...I think every other song could have contributed to the cohesiveness

That is to say...if he's going to turn this around and drop an album next month...I'm skeptical that it's just not more of the same

I mean, I don't expect dude went back in the studio and recorded all new songs for a more singularly focused album

I expect to get reworks of songs that didn't make Oxnard and a repeat of the scattered sound

Hope I'm wrong though

In any event, for those that haven't caught dude live

It's a fucking party, and even if he doesn't get back to the status of Malibu...he'll have a career as a live artist.
3014240, He says Oxnard is more rap, Ventura is more soulful
Posted by Nabs, Wed Feb-27-19 08:36 PM
3014252, the soulful thing makes me hopeful
Posted by makaveli, Thu Feb-28-19 09:36 AM
when you think about it Oxnard is really his only miss and it still has it's moments.
3014255, we'll also hopefully get that madlib cut
Posted by Nabs, Thu Feb-28-19 10:38 AM
what's an oxnard album without madlib?

3014260, i think i'm gonna see him in Philly at the Met
Posted by makaveli, Thu Feb-28-19 12:32 PM
looking forward to it.

Nas taught me years ago to ignore the songs I don't like and enjoy the hell out of the ones that I do. With that, I was listening to the stuff I dug on Oxnard with joy just last night. I'll be doing that 11 PM Houston time download on Ventura fo sho.
3014287, "Anywhere" is truly one of his best songs.
Posted by Brew, Fri Mar-01-19 09:51 AM
The album's not perfect but I could listen to that song over and over for a week and never get tired of it. That beat is *perfect* for Snoop. So vintage. Such a throwback.

That is some amazingly quick turnaround though. Quite interesting.

3014567, Thank god.
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Mar-13-19 09:41 AM
And the take my takeaway from the Esquire interview(in addition to the other interview I referenced above), was that .Paak was feeling the response to Oxnard warranted an "emergency."

>>>>>Did you want to make any changes to Ventura after winning your Grammy and announcing the tour?

I wanted to keep it as incubated as I could 'cause I wanted to keep the vibes with how we felt at the time. I didn't want to over-produce, I didn't want to start second-guessing it, I didn't want to drive myself crazy. I drove myself crazy with Oxnard. That was almost why I was like, I'm about to put over to the side now, like a "break in case of emergency." I did want to get one more song, but I wasn't really stressing, and then it just fell in my lap at the very end with one of my homies.

>>>>>What was it like working with Dr. Dre on the two albums?

With Oxnard, I felt like he wanted to get his chance to work with me. We started making music with him, working with his producers, working with his writers in his studio. We came up with one of the best material, "6 Summers." What else we did in that time? "Sweet Chick," and just lots of tunes. That's when I was like, you know what, I'm going to make album.

It's a learning process for him and with me. I had to compromise a few on the outside, and he's had to. I was learning from him a lot on Oxnard, and allowing myself to open up and be produced and to be more of a vessel. On his journey he's definitely learning all the same things, how to oversee and to make sure the songs were right, and trust in the fact of putting out more content on a regular basis is cool. And if he doesn't understand it, he's always like, I'm a rapper, I'm gonna trust that he knows what he's doing. I love him for that.

He let me have a lot of leeway on Ventura. He was like, it seems like you got it. I spread my wings on the production and on the writing and on these collaborations. Again, very ambitious, working with icons on this one as well. But it was chill working with Dre. Who else you know that will sign with Dre that's putting out this much content in this short of a time?
