To be honest, he would have been better off staying indie with Patchwerk his first two albums, then approaching majors for marketing and distribution support for his third record. A Plus pretty much sticks with Hieroglyphics. Ditto for E Swift and the Liks. Madlib seems to avoid giving beats to the best West Coast lyricists, even in his own Likwid Crew. It’s weird that the best producers out there never seem to get with the best lyricists. What would an Alchemist/Aceyalone combination sound like? We will never know, I guess.
