3010005, I love that album.

I think the "issue," if I have one, is that it's kind of all over the place production-wise. But I always really liked that album.
3010015, love Ras... have a hard time with a lot of the beats
Posted by PG, Wed Oct-03-18 02:15 PM
not this album specifically but all his stuff in general...just so often the beats aren't hard enough for me.. his flow and lyrical skills are 1st rate tho.. top 10 maybe even 5 status skills.
3010017, It's dope to me

also, the Van Gogh LP on spotify has the original Home Sweet Home and not the version where he switches to the Alchemist diss (I did not know that & I'm happy for it, that song is soooo nice).
3010055, He was signed to Priority. That’s what went wrong
Posted by spirit, Thu Oct-04-18 10:22 AM
Priority never demonstrated the ability to market an artist like Ras. To be honest, he would have been better off staying indie with Patchwerk his first two albums, then approaching majors for marketing and distribution support for his third record. The demo version of Soul on Ice could have done very well as an indie record in 94. Then Ras could have approached labels from a position of power.

3010108, i wish he had hooked up w/the west coast boom bap dudes more..

...E Swift, J-Swift, Muggs, A-Plus, Madlib, Alchemist, Joey Chavez etc ...dude was such a beast on the mic, but his music didint always translate well to a lot of heads

3010242, west coast boom bap dudes seem allergic to lyricists

Alchemist did one with Ras. A Plus pretty much sticks with Hieroglyphics. Ditto for E Swift and the Liks. Madlib seems to avoid giving beats to the best West Coast lyricists, even in his own Likwid Crew. It’s weird that the best producers out there never seem to get with the best lyricists. What would an Alchemist/Aceyalone combination sound like? We will never know, I guess.

3010135, Dre didn’t even produce that beat

3010243, I thought that beat knocked
Posted by DJR, Mon Oct-08-18 11:41 AM
it was the hook and song title that was corny, IMO.

Wack beats and hooks all over it.
‘The End’ is a great track and ‘Interview With A Vampire’ grew on me.
