Cover is fucking hard. Tracklist sounds very promising. Snippet sounds dope.

I whined about paying $30 for the last one but I might pony up for this. I just found out about the Warm Hennesey EP and I love it. Roc over hard drums is back?...

I had no knowledge about that EP you mentioned. Thank you for that info. According to what I see on social media, Roc is also dropping an album with beats from DJ Muggs. Dude is releasing quite the discography for 2018. Pretty impressive since he's independent and I'm guessing he has to do a fair amount of heavy lifting to get these projects out.

Tired of the soft ass beats he's been rapping over lately

how the fuck did I not hear about this? Shit is flames. Haven't heard Dino Brave for a while.

Are these verses old? I recognise the first joint, but not the others. roc's voice sounds like it did in the UN days.

They sound straight from The U.N. era, which is a great thing.

Posted by Numba_33, Thu Sep-27-18 09:03 AM
is that the CD for this is now available on fatbeats.com for $12.99. Pretty hilarious. He is strictly indie, so I'm assuming Roc Marciano is fronting a large part of the funding for this roll out. Can't get too upset at him wanting to get his paper, but for strictly digital release to cost so much more than a CD version is pretty hilarious.

straight raw/'real hip hop'/gutter shit, vs high concept stuff with a wide range of emotions that's both abstract and pop-friendly.

Is Tarantino (Roc Marci) at his best "better" than Michel Gondry (Lupe) at his? Lupe/Gondry are my favorite, but i get why some people only like Tarantino/Roc Marci and enjoy them too.
3009756, i disagree

was not expecting this. i think black thought should have been on track 2 instead of whatever joint he ended up on (c'mon! he would have killed that) but otherwise...no complaints. it'll be up there on my list by the end of the year, i definitely like it better than rosebudd's revenge 2
3009426, Yep.

My only complaint is that "Secrets" feels out of place. It might've fit better on 'Rosebudd's Revenge 2,' or with some extra percussion.

The album isn't any worse on the homophobic front than anything else he's ever done and they just decide to make a full paragraph diatribe against the album for something that's just par for the course for his rapper persona.

It's also a bit odd to single that out when he's portraying a figure that pimps, steals, kills, etc. It just felt forced and intellectually dishonest.
3010110, he used the 'd' word..
Posted by infin8, Fri Oct-05-18 10:02 AM
and that makes the whole album homophobic?

the writer posits that this is a character narrative but poetic license ain't allowed?

wypipo reviewing black music

how you give this and flintlock 7's? One is clearly better than the other.
3010112, obviously fictional murder and pimpery
Posted by Small Pro, Fri Oct-05-18 10:16 AM
are not the same as randomly dissing gay people mid-verse; i think
attributing it to roc's rap character or persona is intellectually dishonest more than anything

i'm even not saying it makes me not want to listen, but it definitely sticks out among his lyrics, and the fact that it's been a staple is worth delving into rather than just going "ah man, that's just what he does"
3010240, Roc is playing a character

You have no evidence that Roc is homophobic in real life, so why would you assume that anything homophobic on his records isn’t part of the same pimp persona character he created for the records? Similarly, how is it intellectually honest to excuse or ignore misogynistic language, but be upset at homophobic language? Not to mention advocacy of violence, sex trafficking and usage of the N word. It’s like watching Scarface and complaining that Tony wasn’t a responsible enough pet owner when he bought the tiger and fretting about whether the Colombians took better care of the tiger after they killed everybody.

are you saying his use of the word d--e came out of nowhere, and isn't logically consistent.

I get that. I agree.

Am I a bad person because I overlook it's use when viewing the album as a whole? Would I feel the same if a metal group said n-gger. I don't know. Now I'm arguing with myself.

peace.
3010241, You would ignore a metal group using the N word?
Posted by spirit, Mon Oct-08-18 11:17 AM
A lot of rappers are just playing a persona. The people who are the best at it, I can tolerate in doses. A lot of these personas are character archetypes I recognize. In what context, other than a racist skinhead band, would the N word show up on a metal album? I think Guns n Roses did that once (on Appetite?), but pretty sure the song got pulled from subsequent pressings. I definitely didn’t buy any of their records during their height because of that

3010392, Are we mad at Perry Ferrel/Janes Addiction??
Posted by tully_blanchard, Fri Oct-12-18 09:44 AM
"Way down low where the streets are littered/

I find myself with the freaks and niggers"

-from a song called..Whores.

I always kinda looked at Perry and Axl differently...like...I could see Axl saying the word in casual conversation, like he hated black folk....but Perry was almost a sort of outcast, so he was seen as a "freak" or on the level as someone who would be called "nigger" anyway.

Then I found out Slash was black...then I stopped writing checks for artists just because I liked them...iono..I just felt like asking the question...lol

im new to roc *ducks shoes*

the sound is not my typical vibe but the whole album sounded good on first listen. gotta see how they grow on me before giving any sort of review.

i dont know why my brain kept telling me his albums were 30 tracks when people said he was selling them for $30. that kind of kept me away but mostly i was waiting for it to be on google play.

i see why the drums are complained about but it seems his style needs the soft drums. the beats and the whole vibe is low key. kind of reminds me of mf doom or mac millers swimming (no disrespect to any of the rappers or their fans) get the same type of vibe from the three. they are each very unique from each other though.
