Man, his catalog is much stronger than people give him credit for. That "Being You is Great" record was my top 10 for 2017, and his older stuff, Sleek Rifle included goes hard

I’ve seen the needle and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
But every junkie’s like a setting sun

It’s usually the simple lyrics that get me.

I know people have said the “setting sun” line refers to an addict burning out which is great in its own right but I always also loved the secondary meaning of how it alludes to the way in which an addict constantly burns out and it’s a guarantee they will be right back the next day for more just like the sun rises everyday.

3007526, That's pretty dope

Where you can't put your vest away and say you'll wear it tomorrow
Cause the day after we'll be saying, "damn, I was just with him yesterday"

and then another set of bars from that song that is very relevant today is:

One day I prayed to you and said, "If I ever blow, I'd let them know
The stakes, and exactly what takes place in the ghetto
Promise fulfilled, still I feel my job ain't done"

his documentary work comes to mind...

...love's too weak to define, just what you mean to me.

First heard that tune in early high school. That time in my life when I had one crush after the next, after the next, so it already spoke to me in that way. Then dude sang the lines above and I was floored.

From that point forward for me, lyrics mattered.

3007626, Pink Floyd - Time
Posted by Playa_Politician, Tue Jul-24-18 12:49 PM
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

i was late to listen to Pink Floyd, didn't know any of their songs until about 10 years ago. this is one of the first ones, now i'm a huge fan.

This onebelo line always stood out to me on Propaganda

Freedom of press but if you try to confess
That's like a hungry fat man throwin steak in a food fight
3007631, "Time" is like the theme song of my adult life, post-28yo or so.
Posted by Brew, Tue Jul-24-18 01:37 PM
The lyrics below were always potent to me since I was put on to Floyd in college (2002ish). This was always my favorite Floyd song, and those lyrics you posted stuck out to me then just because they seemed deep and meaningful.

Now they stick out because they actually speak to me directly. Near-daily I think about how sad it is that time truly does fucking FLY, how easily memories fade as you add more years to your time spent on earth, how crazy it is that X event was Y years ago, that type of shit. The idea of "time" and mortality are the only things that legit put me on the verge of depression. Like where the eff does the time go haha.

Anyway yea - this song (and album) and these lyrics specifically are potent as fuck. And the way they come in after the breakdown in the song makes them feel even more epic.

>And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's
>sinking
>Racing around to come up behind you again

Posted by Ray_Snill, Tue Jul-24-18 05:55 PM
still blows my mind to this day

We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killin'
The closest of friends when we first started
But grew apart as the money grew and soon grew black-hearted
Thinkin' back when we first learned to use rubbers
He never learned, so in turn I'm kidnappin' his baby's mother
My hand around her collar, feedin' her cheese
She said the taste of dollars was shitty, so I fed her fifties
About his whereabouts I wasn't convinced
I kept feedin' her money 'til her shit started to make sense
Who could ever foresee?
We used to stay up all night at slumber parties
Now I'm tryna rock this bitch to sleep
All the years we were real close
Now I see his fears through her tears
Know she's wishin' we were still close
Don't cry, it is to be; in time
I'll take away your miseries and make it mine

I was in 12th grade when I heard it. It hit so hard because at that time, dudes were legit calling girls bitches and all else solely because they weren't able to get sex from them..and I was like wow, this is the best analogy ever.
3007669, LOL yes that is a classic line.

Put the pieces back together my way

that song has so many lines that jump out at me, but that hook is so good.

Aesop Rock - Float
This fallen angel could stitch a wing with a shoestring
The prime directive selects reflective aviation bathed in mood swing

i had copped his Float album w/out ever really listening to him. it was good, but a lot to ingest. this line stuck out at me as dope.

Saying it "blew my mind" is kind of an overstatement, but I liked the visual imagery of the metaphor combined with the clear literal meaning. Most rap lines work better on one level than the other, to me, but I liked the double meaning there equally.
