Haven't got around to finishing but it's because I want to give it proper focus.

I'm a big Aceyalone fan but haven't heard a ton of Fat Jack's production (that I know of) but I was impressed.

... that I know of his Project Blowed contributions back in the day but not much beyond that ... like I said, at least as far as I know. I'm sure I've heard some of his beats without knowing they were his. That type of thing.

I hated that shit back in the day... my boy loved them fuckers and would drive from Palmdale to be in Leimert, lol

but when Ava dropped when the west was one, it really recontextualized them for me and I went a bit of a binge...

they really some of the most talented rappers ever and they still hella obsucre

Used to go to a lot of the Unity shows and also Blowed affiliated shows away from Project Blowed, in downtown, wherever. Usually 2mex or Shapeshifters, or OMD, xololanxinxo, Busdriver, Ellay Khule all that. like the Afterlife jams.

I was always a fellowship fan since like junior high. When Innercity Griots dropped that was my SHIT. I got that whole album memorized. Then I found out they had a FIRST first album. When they did the reunion show at the Whiskey in 98 I was in the front row. Saw PEACE throw a dude off the stage at Midnight Sun. Saw Acey serve three NYC emcees in a row at the Blowed one time.

Anyway since I was at Fat Beats a lot and always taping the Wake Up Show I was kinda on my East Coast shit, but by like 98 I was hearing about Log Cabin, Universals, all these weird rap crews in LA.... Shapeshifters. And getting weird ass dubs of dubs along with Fellowship stuff I had never heard before that was live or never released. Yeah I was heavy into Blowed for several years lol

Around 2000 I saw a screening of Freestyle that they did at NYU actually, that had some Blowed footage http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0262424/, and I was on fire for days! The peace footage in there was dope by the way. I met the director briefly of This is the Life when they did a screening at an actual movie theater near MSG out here and was really taken aback by how warm and genuine she was. Good to see she has gone on to do big things.

The thing that I loved about Blowed is that the beats are grimy and weird. Fat Jack's production kind of mainstream-izes the songs but with that you get a loss of the quirkiness and innovation that makes Blowed projects more interesting. It's solid but kind of unimaginative at times.

As for Cater To The Dj comps, Packed House is that shit!!! Wish we had more PEACE to go back to. Southern Fry'd Chicken album was disappointing but that song is crazy.
I actually prefer the second album. It's got joints like Keep rockin On and Talk To Ya Brotha. Interludes are fresh too

Regardless of of style preferences it's clear Fat Jack is underrated and it's good to hear him do his thing on this Acey album.

I was only disappointed that SFC was so short! The beats were way different from other more jazzy blowed shit but I think that's the style Peace was going for. I like the crazy hi-hats and synth on Southwest Rider and Already Gone, i think he sounds great on there.

I remember I saw this doc where it was supposed to be J Smoov with Peace aka Vines and Mikah 9 for a whole project but it never came out. I wonder if that was what led to the song Viles w/ Mikah and Peace (one of the better post-FF collabs between former fellowship)

Anyway, I always wondered if it was Fat Jack that produced the original Where's the Sniper, by Volume 10, since he did most of Hip-Hopera.

Missing You is jamming. It's still pretty lazy lyrically, but that's PEACE's mo. He's styling the hell out of some really basic raps.
"OMEZY'S,ISZY'S, & KISZY'S" is another nice one, it might be 12-13 years old at this point.
"What You Gone Do" more classic PEACE. Dude finishes rapping like 40 seconds into the song, but it's still bumps.

Thought he was lazy on most of it, and the beats were pretty flimsy. Connected Functions was damn near perfection though. He needs the right beats. PEACE with Fat Jack is what if really wanna see. He could wild out over some jazzy shit and it would work. Thanks for the SoundCloud link. I'm "friends" with Peace on FB but he don't post anything there. Jup is pretty good about responding though and it doesn't seem like there is any FF movements on the horizon unfortunately. They just did a show though with the 3 that still live in LA. It's a shame that more people didn't recognize the brilliance.
Nowadays it would be impossible for such a compelling collective of highly talented, artsy folk to fly so far under the radar.

I peeped Megabyte again on YouTube yesterday, been awhile.liked it more than I remembered though it's still doesn't have the charm and unpredictability of the earlier PEAcE/FF stuff.

I remember when peace got in his accident and going to his benefit show. Dude I performed with once in LA from this group Afronauts was in a car following him when it happened. After that seemed like he lost touch with the local scene, but I donno

and I'm very pleased with this project. Fat Jack has always been dope, his production on Abstract Rude and Tribe Unique's early albums consistently set a mood. And thank goodness he hooked up with Ace One because this is the best the MC has sounded in some time. He has always been cool with One MC/One Producer collaborations but the results have been mixed. This is him in a nice zone, not too simple and not STYLIN too hard either. A very needed album. Good shit.

I always loved FatJack's drum programming. It has *that* feel to it that isn't flashy, but it's not stiff either. It's a comfortable place between breaks and manual programming that always comes off smooth.

FatJack's production is really amazing on this album. It tows the line between vintage Hip Hop and a more contemporary West Coast underground sound.

Well said. I thought the same thing. It's got elements of the boom bap style but still sounds fresh and modern.
