2997821, Interview I did with Talib Kweli (LINK)
Posted by mrhood75, Mon Nov-13-17 12:46 PM
I recently spoke with Mr. Kweli at length in advance of the release of "Radio Silence." We chopped it up about a wide range of topics, from the new album, to working with one of his "teachers," to the musical aspirations of his kids, to partying with the Obamas in the White House, to Drumph and his supporters.

Give it a read here:

He's always been a good subject. Hearing about his history with Moka 9 was interesting to hear.
2997852, That was interesting. Kweli almost went @ him on Twitter ...

Last nite, which was funny timing. I didn't know of their relationship before reading this interview yesterday. Then last nite, I hopped on Twitter to see Kweli going at people as is typical, and at some point Myka hopped in to defend someone Kweli was arguing with ... so Kweli told Myka he should "check his boy" ... then Myka obliged and everything was cool.

Pretty strange timing.
2997921, Thank you, sir

What are 2-3 albums I should check?

This also reminded me I need to check out that Kweli/Styles joint.
2997923, Myka's best stuff is with Freestyle Fellowship

So I'd say go for their first album, "To Whom it May Concern" and "Innercity Griots" that their first major release album and their overall best. That's the album with "Park Bench People," which is a hip-hop/jazz track.

His solo stuff is a little spotty. That's good material on "It's All Love" and "1969."

Yeah, it's really good.
2997928, Just wanted to add on here...

The first 2 FF albums are a must, but I gotta say Myka's performance on the 3rd album Temptations is exceptional. That album was sorta like Soul's No Man's Land. A little too straightforward, a little too hard, but Myka kills it all the way through. https://youtu.be/5GuyuQwamBE

Famous Future Time Travel with Factor is dooooope. https://youtu.be/LT6x0yUaArk

The Haiku D'etat albums and Ayem Radio joint with ab Rude are also worth a look. This joint is all love. https://youtu.be/JUJzd9EF_is

Solo he is quite hit and miss as you mentioned, the compilation Timetable will give a new listener a nice overview of what Myka was up to post-Griots. Believe he had a solo album which never came out back in like 94-95 around the time of Acey's All Balls dont Bounce. It's All Love is real solid and I'd go with Gramophone as another worth a look. Didn't much like Mykology or A Work In Progress. https://youtu.be/z2PgaVUVSxI

Live he is a slayer, ridiculous breath control and chopping. Legend and it's good to see him get some wider love.

Props on the interview good sir!
2997932, Myka9 is dope
