Yes if they are doing something spontaneous then absolutely.

This is my thought behind this... if you have more individuals recording with you i.e. an octet or orchestra vs. a quartet, duo, or solo venture then that would vary in recording time?

Also could this be varied between artists. I remember an interview with Kamasi talking about how the recording of The Epic took awhile... mainly because there were other project being done as the same time.
